  1. Got thru the video. She seems to blame the US government for the US carbon credit scheme but sort of acknowledges it was to help the transition from carbon burning cars to EVs. What she fails to acknowledge but seems to imply that TESLA is doing something wrong, if not illegal then immoral. TESLA just make good electric cars, Chrysler-Stellantis, Ford and GM by and largely have failed as car designers, engineers and production companies to make EVs anywhere where as cheap and efficiently as TESLA. TELSA have benefitted from the fact they only produce EVs where as the big 3 US manufacturers have failed to get their EV sales as more than a percent or so of their overall manufacture. So those three US car companies have to buy carbon credits and TESLA can sell them. Worth $2B a year to TESLA which they can and do plough in to their cars to make them even cheaper and hence more US buyers buy then even more widening the sales gulf between them and TESLA. Not TESLA fault at all, US government may need to recognise it is a feedback loop of money which continues to help TESLA and harm the big 3 US car makers. In US election year one can see the scheme being reduced or scrapped. TESLA hardly need the scheme and the 3 big US car makers are probably toast as they just have not the innovative skills to survive in the car world where EVs are the obvious choice for buyers and TESLA and the Chinese have got the building of these cars and most the legacy car makers have not. She still sounds like someone in a tirade, blaming the government rather than lamenting legacy automakers failure to adapt from ICE car manufacture to EV manufacture. The carbon credit scheme is just another nail in the legacy car makers coffin. TESLA get £2B a year from this, US legacy car makers have to cough up a few hundred million $ for carbon credit but this is one a fraction of billions of pounds per year these legacy companies are losing.TESLA can do without Carbon Credits. Its worth is currently about $600B, sells $70B worth of cars per year. Battery costs, the main component cost, has more than halved last year so $2B is an element they can live without in 2024 and beyond. Carbon capture scheme a few billion $, US government is $34,000B in national debt and in an election year both parties will try and look more prudent especially with the ever hanging threat of government popping up almost every month. Think it is going to be close so we might have Donald Trump back again. Issues are complex and videos that mention so many issues, she even got cold-gating in to her 7 minute diatribe tirade, which was a mostly a charger issue rather than a EV issue BTW, so still see the vid as a rant which was all over the place in focus, or lack of it. More and more Americans, as with much of the world, will continue to adopt EVs due to ever lowering cost to buy and carbon capture and EV subsidies are so last year, scrap both of them, not needed any more, transition to EV is a freight train, an electric one and does not need hand outs any more as it is mainstream and can both stand and EVolve on its own now.
  2. You are confirming it is rabid Republican bull, Donald Trump propaganda. USA has 50 states, different subsidies, different state taxes, vastly different seasonal weather too. The economics of ICE cars and EV changes weekly as fuel prices and charging prices swing around but what millions of Americans have found out, and millions of others round the world is that you can charge your EV oft for free of you own solar or at sites like work or clients also for free. EV Charging at expensive DC on route places is more expensive than ICE vehicles most places so do not do it or do as little as possible. What I am surprised at is the lack of public complaints at the hyper massive subsidies to EV drivers as grants and tax breaks like UK salary sacrifice. People on 100k or more pay packets getting massive handouts whilst infrastructure, health etc is past the point of being fit for purpose. Not so much stats which don't apply to most users.
  3. Ah don't be like that. A couple areas that I reckon is getting attention is big improvements at public sites which people do not and cannot have home chargers will increasingly get access to and at a much lower price that the expensive DC charging (TESLA are much cheaper but one then needs the £11 subscription and be close to V4 TESLA chargers that can work with non TESLAs as most of use EV drivers drive. The decision by Sainsburys to put in charger at all 1400 stores will help and I have now found I can access a whole bunch of AC chargers with the Dragon charging, as well as the Mer and several other EV charging networks, all under and seems to be ever increase under Octopus Energy Electroverse RFID network with all its advantages of discounts and not charging the cost immediately but just adding it on to the household energy bill and as EVangelists know AC is usually much cheaper cost per unit of electricity ie usually about 50p per kWh instead of 70 to 80p per kWh as it is for DC charging. For us Renault Zoe and van drivers we can find quite a few 22 kW AC charging places so we are adding about 12 to 18 miles of range in ten minutes and warming the battery to make it more efficient in cold weather. Good for a splash and dash and add a margin of safety to range worries. Still a few places only charging 28 p per kWh which is basically cheaper than charging at home for most. Where there is a will there is a way.

I have watched quite a few of this guys videos and whilst he has one of the most droney voices I have every heard he does cover some good stuff and particularly for the 30k plus UK Zoe drivers as well as the Renault commercial EV ie Van guys which there must be thousands of those too in the UK. He makes a very good point, if not very pertinent to Renault EV owners but much less so to non Renault cars which does not have the Chameleon AC charging system, called such as I think the invertor which takes power from the traction battery for the motor is used to change direction, like a Chameleon changes colour, to take large amounts of AC from a charger, 22 kWs or even 43 kWs for the Q designated Zoes etc, and allow that throughput of power rectifying it to DC for the traction battery. Hence Zoe can charge almost as fast on AC as it does in DC for that 70% upwards State of Charge though to 95% or so, where there is a 22 kW AC charger there. I have been pleasantly surprised that Dragon Charging, who have just partnered with the Octopus Electoverse network partnership and there seems to be quite a number and for me in great places ie very close to my daughter in South Wales and several on the way on the Tewkesbury to Newport M50 and A449 which is a bit of a desert for DC charging for some odd reason, so bad you would consider going the longer M5 and M4 route which is about ten miles further, not the 30 to 40 miles that Davetakesiton said in one of his video but a longer trip and meaning one has to go across one or other of the Severn bridges, if the are open and not shut due to high wind which seems to be happen more and more due to climate change or sun spots or whatever. The first minute was trash, talked tosh, headline on the video an incorrect statement so, as is my policy, if the Youtuber talks crap for that fist minute I bail out so I hope they did not get any Youtube financial kickback fo producing such rubbish. In that fist minute she accused the US government of producing misleading figures about costs to charge against cost of buying fossil fuel. Since, as we have said multiple times, most people charge manly at home or use AC charging at destinations as a much cheaper, or free access to charging, then to compare to the premium prices of in journey DC charging then this is not a valid comparison to the actual cost of running an EV. If the presenter suddenly changed from her trash talking in the first minute of her video please let me have those points as I could not bear listening to the tosh she stated to spout ?
  6. Non info. Anyone with a brain knows pretty accurately how much pence or cents per mile it costs in electricity costs, simple maths and simple choosing where to charge economically. Bit more complex than ICE cars where there is a few percent difference in pump prices, lots of other method of paying less for fuel but most the time quite simple. EV charging bit more complex but opportunities to charge for tiny fraction of mainstream EV charging DC chargers or even charge for free some places ie included in stay at hotel etc. Video is US centric where diesel and petrol much cheaper than UK. Drivers chose EV model Y over petrol Camry for many reasons and running cost is one but they did their homework and I reckon did not rely on government figures but their own cents per kWh and miles per kWh.

  8. Dacia Spring now the cheapest of any cars in Europe so EVs not just the best selling model but also the cheapest car of any propulsion type. Dacia spring now 13k Euros in Germany and that is without any government subsidies.

Just to be clear then I believe from what I have read that EVs have very low levels of pollution, CO2, PM2.5 and PM10 particles, leak and problems of disposal of dangerous level of rare earth metals. Very pro in getting rid of diesel engine land vehicles as quickly as they can be replaced by electric, petrol-hybrid, even LNG, and that is despite, or partial because, having done a 4 year apprenticeship as a marine diesel engineering officer. I hope that has come across loud and clear perhaps despite the occasional typo or omission of a word flipping what I meant to see. Stop BS, stop burning stuff.
  10. Most EVs little pollution, some say there is a bit of tyres deg which might have some pollution. Batteries now have little or no rare earth metals, phones and tablets are reportedly worse for this. I am still learning how to optimise on charging, when best to charge to bring up the battery temp when cold to increase battery ability to charge and give best output and miles per kWh. Zoe only has active cooling and UK version does not have battery heating only the nordic version do I gather. Be interesting to see if upgrade batteries become available as the cost fall so much and energy density improves maybe I could get a 60 or 70 kWh battery at a low cost especially if my 52 kWh does degrade by 5 or 10%. TESLA just dropped prices by 4 to 7 % on the continent ie retail less than £40k for a model Y standard, hopefully head that way in the UK shortly and maybe the Y will be no 1 in 2024 as well as 2023.
  11. Very little waste heat in an EV as engine is so efficient. What little there is can be channel to warm the traction battery or cabin. Unique selling point is running cost of about 5p a mile and that is energy for motion, servicing and tyres. Running internal heating and then running the engine for short periods is common on hybrids. Engines in pure ice cars ie non hybrids are inefficient as load is so low that engine is running at a very ineffient rpm. Turbo not really running at 800 engine rpm, low volumetric efficiency. Hybrids bring the ice on for short periods, load the engine with it powering the generator to charge the hybrids lithium battery and shut off when jacket temp up to say 70c and hybrid battery charged to about three quarters. Passenger comfort systems will then run for 10 minutes or so and hybrid battery down to a quarter and then ice engine switches on again to power genny for hybrid system and bring jacket water temp back up to 70ish. Works well and keep fuel consumption over 50 mpg even in this sub zero temp and the torque from engine and motor makes it feel like a torquey 2 litre engine. Tell my lad to run it in eco mode in the bad weather as just so much torque. Same with the EVs massive toque off the line, bad enough in summer but tyre ripping in winter. 0 to 30 in a nidge over 3 seconds is fun in both the ev and the hybrid, puts the turbo petrol to shame even though all about the 140 - 145 hp Mark. Filling station which only hydrocarbon fuel and not lecky are starting to die out. New EV charging places are popping up plus garden centres, fast food outlets and super markets are jumping on the EV charging band wagon. Charge their car, sell them coffee, foods etc. Worcester now has far more charging points than it does fossil fuel filling pumps. Pump manufacturers like Tokheim in Dundee are making more and more ev charging units and their is bound to be a reduction in wiesel and petrol pumps correspondingly. The future is nigh and its lecky.
  12. Half a day or over a day an EV get keep its occupants warm, not dissimilar to ICE cars I would have thought. My EV has 4 USB points so people can all keep on their devices. My EV has a heat pump so is really efficient using the energy in the battery, 1 kWh draw will keep those inside warm whilst generating around 3 or 4 kWs of heat hence the Zoe ZE50 occupants could survive on the battery even if the battery was only half charges. Dont know of any ICE cars with hit pumps. They rely on the inherent inefficiency of their fossil fuel to power cycle, turbo petrol about 30% efficient, car diesel engine about 40%. EV are just so damn thermally efficient ie around 90%, they just do not produce vast amounts of waste heat, only vast amounts of pollution. One reason I did not go straight for the Megane E from the Zoe, only the top of the range had heat pump, now the middle range one does and I presume the cheapo one will soon. All recent TESLA have heat pumps I gather. The big issues in Chicago seems partially down to chargers, and cars, charging more slowly in the minus 40 temperature (Celcius and Farenheit cross over at this temp ie minus 40 is the same temp on both scale at this point). SOme EV drivers, we are not all saints and nice people though I like to think we are enlightened, and some were probably handing on for that last 10 or 20 % charge at a very slow rate. I think chargers should charge at least at half or quarter their maximum rate, if all working chargers are running so EV drivers do not hand on to a rapid DC charger whilst only drawing 10 or 15 kWs. I would move off the charger, hopefully there would be an AC charger nearby where I could get 15 or 20 or 22 kWs and free up a DC charger. There are still more AC chargers than there are DC, some only a poxy 7 kWh, but some 11, 16s, and 22s, more than some people think, just tapped in to that lovely 3 phase AC network so I can suck it up in the Renault's Cameleon charger.

Sainsburys to go one step further and not just host and EV charging network, such as Pod point like many do, but actually become their own EV charging network in their 1400 stores If Tescos do not match this might have to switch allegiances to JS from TESCOs. If the price is good, hopefully close to TESLA closing charge prices.
  14. The EU's stance is one of what it considers fair competition. So it has Anti-Dumping powers if goods are people sold cheaper to the EU than in that country's own market, it presumes the goods are being "dumped" to destroy the EU's manufacturing so one destroyed that exporter can move in and supply with a profitable export to the EU after a period of destroying the EU's manufacturing base. This is Anti Dumping Duty ie tariffs. There is also Countervailing Duties that can be used to recover perceived losses in other areas, we have used this more against the USA than even China. There is also Safeguarding measures, or quota measures, can be quickly put in place to stop apparent quickly developing situations that threaten EU home supply interests. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An anti-dumping duty can be imposed if goods have been brought in at a dumped price, i.e. they have been sold for export at a price that is lower than the cost of production or the domestic prices. Anti-dumping duties are often imposed on particular companies. A countervailing duty can be imposed if a country has subsidised its exports. A product may be subject to both an anti-dumping duty and a countervailing duty. A safeguard duty or a quota can be imposed if unexpectedly increasing imports pose a threat to EU industries. Safeguard measures can be imposed quickly, and their validity is shorter than that of anti-dumping and countervailing measures. The safeguard measures concern all non-EU countries, i.e. third countries. The imposition anti-dumping and countervailing measures is always preceded by an investigation. The investigation takes up to 14 months (anti-dumping duty) or 13 months (countervailing duty). Definitive measures, an anti-dumping duty or a countervailing duty, can be imposed after the investigation. They are to lapse after five years. Provisional measures. The Commission can impose provisional measures during an investigation, no earlier than 60 days from initiation and no later than 7 to 8 months thereafter. A provisional anti-dumping duty is imposed for a period of up to of six months. A provisional countervailing duty is imposed for a period of up to of four months. A guarantee must be lodged them. The guarantee is collected as definitive, if a definitive anti-dumping or countervailing duty is imposed.
  15. Electric car charging ? No. In cold climates ICE (not a pun) get plugged in to block heaters to keep the glycol in the "cooling", yes cooling systems warm enough not to bust the "cooling" system. Diesel fuel itself starts to get sludgy around minus 12C. Glyloc needs to be very close to the range of being 60% strength with the water being the other 40% to give protection down to minus 45/50 C I gather so you need to get your hydrometer to get that just right. And media trying to paint the picture EVs have issues with vey cold temperatures . "ICE" car plugged in to a block heater to stop the glycol bursting the engine.
  16. At least those northern dockyard and Hampshire council folks allow the use of outside cable covers. Does the cable cover go down only when charging ?? Does it need to be cut to length ? Will it curl and is there a trip hazard or issue with the car side of the cable ? As blind people use their stick to tap along the edge of the curb sometimes ? Fortunately Sainsburys and the other supermarkets, about 10,000 locations, are rolling out fast and rapid chargers at their sites over the next year or so and therefore less of any issue going forward. What is the progression of less of the housing stock being terraced etc and more being suburban with driveways ? My first house, not flat, had a garage in block just over the way, that would have worked.

  19. Octopus now have Dragon and another one I forget have joined the massive Electoverse ie Octopus's large and growing network. Pre payment, do not even pay anything at the time of charging, net it off on my monthly household bill. MacMaster you muppet. Oh and I get a discount from 5 to 20% on the cost.
  20. Will be great to see a massive EV car plant in Canada if they can do the deal and if Honda can survive the next couple of years and actually go ahead. We are seeing some big overseas investment but one wonders if they are conditional on some local investment costing us the tax payers to help it happen. Honda's EVs have been a bit of a joke but the have just announced some different cars at the Las Vegas show so maybe the have a chance of surviving to go ahead with the plant. I go pass the Honda Swindon plant and don't hold out great hope that Honda will be successful unless they change course.
  21. More than I thought, my bad. Your quote 2020 data which was a peak and Canada has been slipping down the car producing ladder with it only a bit ahead of the UK paulty 1M cars but UK produces significant high value cars, Aston, Bentley, Mclaren, Rolls as we as mainstream like Nissan. All the companies you mention, maybe with Stellantis having some future with some cheap EVs, are "legacy" auto makers with products which are showing to be less desirable to buyers as we see Toyota losing best selling car from their Camry to the Tesla Model Y, Honda in big trouble with models not selling. Ford, GM, and Chrysler (Stellantis) all with inventory issues and been producing cars at a loss. Canadians buying TESLAs made in US, China and probably will from Mexico when that TESLA factory opens. Sad but countries need a TESLA plant and a supply of real cheap Chinese cars for the low end of the market which are too cheap to make in a high earnings economy.
  22. Sounds like dealer's grumbling that they bought the wrong stock and now got high inventory. Canadian car production, what car production, a few US models is all they have ever produced. Maybe Canada can help get cars from China to Europe via Pacific with tesla, mg now shipping via round South Africa route. EV manufacturing is solving cold temperature running and range with significant improvement year on year.
