  1. Apologies for the delay and many thanks, gentlemen, for taking the time to respond. Yes it is the user details, easily changed on the pulldown menu on the home screen. John
  2. Hi I have a my 2023 vRS. I have a small, niggling problem I can't resolve. There is a warning message when I switch on saying my location details are being stored and I should go to 'the control centre' to switch it off if I that's what I want. After a lot of looking I have been unable find this switch anywhere. Trouble is I haven't a clue what is issuing the message - the car? infotainment? android auto? my tom tom sat nav? or something else? Any suggestions much appreciated. TIA John
  3. When I started up this morning the infotainment and computer screens, internal lights and fan switches etc were only operating at 5% power. Thought it was a fuse but all is working ok but can't see them. Can't get my mind round what it might be. To be exact. Switching on - infotainment and computer screens are normal. As you start up they disappear down to 5%. I tried obvious things and then disconnected battery for 10 minutes. No change except some messages about driver aids not available. I am struggling to get a dealer to check it out quickly. I would be grateful for any observations or suggestions Thank you John
  4. Gentlemen, Many thanks for taking the trouble to respond. I'll go back to ignoring it then. 👍
  5. I have a 2.5 year old petrol Vrs estate that has done 20,000 miles. I am very pleased with it For the last several months I have noticed that when I accelerate hard it throws out a lot of water vapour. It looks a bit like a dodgy diesel throwing out stuff though obviously not as dark! It seems to happen when the engine is both hot or cold and when the ambient temperature is both hot or cold. In all other respects the engine has performed perfectly. I haven't tried it over an extended period as that's not my driving style but it does seem to happen every time. I have never noticed this in any previous cars other than during the first minute or two. Does anybody have any observations or suggestions or am I worrying needlessly? Many thanks John R
  6. Thanks bigade. So this morning, 5 minutes into a journey, I look down and the icons had all changed to yours! No idea what caused the change but my guess is that the vehicle moving normally fixed it as opposed to the earlier testing which took place when stationary. Anyway I'm sorted. Thanks for your response.
  7. Bigade many thanks for providing your updated file. I have used it a few times with no problem. (I compiled my own last year but of course yours is so much simpler) I was in Europe and loaded the standard VW file. No problems only those silly, weak icons. When I came back and loaded your January update they show ok in the POIs list but on the map the weak icons are retained. I have tried earlier files of yours but still the wrong icons. Do you have any idea how I can get your icons back on the map? Again my personal thanks for your efforts John
  8. Got it after a lot of work. (It's funny how these things become obsessive total must haves!) Anyway the answer is that FL vRS is entirely different and is in the link quoted below On 2/17/2018 SC03OTT said Coding is in the link provided. It’s for the FL Octavia, so proceed with caution. It’s all in German so you’ll need to translate (you can’t copy/paste either). I used Google Translate and it was more than ideal to understand what was going on. Anyway. Link and navigation directions below: 5E Octavia FL - Sonstige - Nebelscheinwerfer zusätzlich zum Fernlicht https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=3AE6945C79E4C9E!17729&app=OneNote&authkey=!AMn8y885S2R-6Xg Thanks to SC03OTT and djduesse
  9. Thanks xpower. My bad for B12 but I had decided not to activate d12 and 13. Anyway I have made the corrections but still not working unfortunately. Don't know if you have any other suggestions - I have attached the latest backup just in case. Many thanks again history.txt
  10. Thanks xpower - apologies for the delay. C is from your schema above - High Beam. I am new to this so am not sure what an adaption map is. I have attached a backup of the 09 Control Unit hoping this will do. Thanks again John history.txt
  11. I have done most of the common changes over the last couple of weeks with almost no problems. It was all surprisingly straightforward as a result of the information on here. This one I just can't get to go. I have A & B ok but not C. I wondered if the fact that I have activated High Beam Assist previously may be having some impact. Any observations or suggestions? MTIA
  12. Edz_VRS Have just got this working!! Not able to test it much but it is showing speed limits in Maxidot Am in the car for several hours tomorrow which will be a good test. Am optimistic though. The procedure, from Gizmo, is in the Superb forum with a couple of small differences, at Good luck John
  13. I have the same problem as Ed. My FL vRS fails to show the adaption in A5. Can anyone confirm that they have succeeded with this in a FL Octavia. I don't really understand this last section as there is nothing like it in the adaptions list.. Any advice would be really helpful Ed. the control unit 17 change is easier to see if you drop down to the basic byte/bit level using the 0/1 toggle at the top. Thanks in advance John
  14. I decided to follow Neiln's excellent suggestion. Tyreleader's prices were excellent and the 3 day delivery service very good. Everything fits except the wheel is maybe 1cm too high in my estate boot. No problem for me. Having driven from Basel twice in 12 months on a skinny 50mph wheel I am so glad that I shouldn't have to do that again. Thank you Neil for an excellent and cost effective solution. John
