  1. Thanks for the reply both.

I have always noticed it but never really thought until now what it could be.

I haven't checked the damper or been advised of anything in the MOT and service. Next chance I get I may hire a ramp and check them myself.

That happened to our last Octavia, I complained, returned the car & they reset it to show the oil temperature whilst keeping it on fixed servicing.

If you have a VCDS owning member near you they could probably reset it for you..

Hmmm, maybe thats what they have done? It says just under 10,000 miles to the next service.

Anyone here from Bristol/South West with VCDS?

Change of oil should not do it. Neither should disconnecting the battery or letting it go flat.

Who changed the Oil and what else did they do to your car or was it you that changed it?

My local garage who have changed the oil before. They just did the usual service plus an air con service.

  4. I would agree the Quantum Lomg Life stuff is useless, especially if you do shorter trips. In fact, it's ironic that they call it "long life" as you have no chance of most of it getting old, because you are constantly topping it up...

Ordered some Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 5w30 from eBay for £39 (5L) to give it a try and see if its any good. From what I have read across the web alot of people rate it. If its no good ill go back to Shell Ultra Helix or try the LM 5w40 equivalent. :notme:

  5. No it just works and is not expensive.

Any 5w 40 FS to VW502 00 will do even from Castrol or Quantum.

The issue really is Long Life oil even if changing regularly even at Fixed Service Intervals.

It is causing issues on short trips where cars are not getting the oil up to temp,  if it is not on anyones cars then they have no need to go to the 5w 40 FS.

If say like me for example you use your car for shorter journeys, is using 5w40 even worth it?

  6. It makes a big difference.

I changed the Oil & Filter 2 weeks ago for someone that got in touch after buying privately a SEAT Twincharger that had just had a Main Dealer Service or the invoice for one,

    5w 30 Quantum & a Silver VW/Audi marked Filter.

It had oil in when he bought it and 300 miles later nothing on the dipstick and the seller did not want to know anything, turns out he had it just a month.

So £20 for Asda 5W 40 (VW502 00) & £3.05 for a Mahle filter & i took the oil out of the Dipstick tube and kept it for future use in a suitable engine.

They came along today for me to check the oil after 400 miles and not a drop used.

    EDIT.

2 litre was what i vacuumed out of it. (sooked oot)

I have seen this Asda 5w40 oil mentioned before, would you say it is the "miracle" oil we are after?  :D

And is it better than Shell Ultra Helix 5w40?

  7.

Looking at a few Simple mods now my VRS has had the oil problem sorted.

So mine is now a CAVE+ ,All major items completed on service August 2016 (filters etc..)

But i would like to know what other OEM items might need 'uprating' based on the list below now i am at 35,000 miles
I am not planning on tracking the car or anything and the suspension for me is firm enough.

December 2016 I am booked in for a Dyno run and a Milltek Cat Back.

    1. Fit Denso Spark Plugs & Dyno Run as is.

    2. Milltek to be fitted + 25KG Weights Removal.

    3. ECU map possibly to around 200bhp depending on 1st Dyno run BHP (Im not aiming for the max)

So other OEM items then, is it worth replacing these next year for 'uprated' in future:

    4. Uprated Brakes Discs + Pads (mine have never been replaced but mine still feel really good , ive never known OEM brakes last this long?)
What Type is worthy of upgrading too other than replacing like for like)

    5. Uprated Coil Packs (Audi A1 Type?)

    6. Forge Twin Charged TSi Blow Off Dump Valve Kit.

    7. K & N Air filter (only just had OEM one fitted at service)

    thanks!

I have updated the brade disks on my GTI with EBC Green Stuff Pads (DP21517) and EBC Blade Series Brake Discs (BSD818), part numbers may differ.

They are some of the best brakes ive fitted on the car and vastly improve the stopping distance. Bit noisey at first but soon goes.

  8. Thanks for the advice there.

Am I safer buying a newer car?

Also I intend to buy an extended warranty - will this cover me for the oil issue?

Does anyone on here have a newer engine which has had the oil problem?

    Many thanks.

I had the issue with my Polo and Warranty Wise covered the work with no quible. The total cost of the work actually equalled the cost of the warranty so anything else now is a bonus.

Just depends on what company you go with and where you take the car. I took my to a VW dealer which uses the Warranty Wise portal.

  9. I tried Liqui Moly TopTec 4200 (504/507) at my last service, and after 2300km I haven't had to put any top ups in.

Prior to that the consumption had increased to 1L/2000km after initially showing great promise straight after the new jets were installed. I believe that Quantum Long Life was installed at the previous service, however, and George may be onto something in not rating it very highly.

Can't say I have heard of that one. Is it exclusive to Australia or is there a UK/European equivalent?

2300km(1429.15miles) is good if the oil hasn't moved. I take it thats a 5w30 oil?

Update: Just browesing the web and someone with an Audi A5 has been doing tests with different oils with Liqui Moly giving him 5000miles/quart:

  10. The oil temperature seems to run a little lower than other oils I've put in - Shell Helix, Mobil ESP, Castrol Edge and Quantum Longlife and consumption hasn't changed from the "accepted" use of the CAVE engine. Thankfully, my engine seems to be one that was not adversely affected by high oil consumption anyway.

Thats good to hear that you have one of the good ones! :)

I had an oil change in July using Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 and since then I have done almost 1100 miles and the dipstick is showing a drop of roughly 25%. When mine gets up to temp the oil temp will be about 92c. Is yours lower than that?

  11. Had the vRS serviced this week and, deep breath, Fuchs Titan GT1 Longlife 3 was put in.

Since then I've noticed the oil is running a few degrees lower than before.

Since having that oil in your car, has it improved oil consumption and does it still run at a low temp?

  12. Question for anyone who has had the oil jet, breather mod, etc.

Have any of you tried different oils since getting the work done?

Someone who i met at a car meet had a VRS and said they used both 0w40 and 10w40 which conforms to VW50X.XX standards and it reduced the consumption.

    Has anyone tried this?

Update: anyone tried this oil? 502/505 approved.

  13. Had the oil jets, breather and Ecu updates just done 6 weeks or so ago....

    Cost me £450 though.

Dealer then carried out oil test that said the car needed a new engine, but in 1000+ miles it hasn't used a drop of oil.

    Fingers crossed!

In the meantime I've been dealing with skoda uk about the issue and they don't want to know!

Dealership have been great, Skoda UK not so.....

How did their oil test detirmed that the car needed a new engine?
