  1. JayPay, I have all had all the problems that you list. They randomly happen at start up, the most annoying is the "Loading User Settings" which happens quite often and will not go away. I have never had the braking when overtaking problem but I have the SE model. To me, it has been more annoying than dangerous and the car itself has always behaved predictably. I will be very happy if these software glitches have all been solved but apart from these inconveniences, the basic car has been very good and I have no intention of returning it. The fuel consumption is outstanding and the comfort, ride and style of the car is good. Thank you for the info.
  2. I'm sure it's a camera. On motor ways and dual carriage ways it works well where the lanes are clearly defined, until you come to a row of cones that make you steer to the right. On backroads it becomes annoying when you steer to the middle to avoid broken road edges, cyclists etc. I once drove along a road where a truck had spilt a trail of white paint in patches in the middle of the lane. The steering command gave up and told me to take control. I certainly would not trust my life to it but maybe on a motor way it may be a useful as a back up warning.
  3. Is he now complaining about a strange cheesy smell in the back?
  4. I was driving along today in my November 2020 Octavia MK1V 1.5 SE when the tyre pressure warning came on 'Rt Rear pressure low'. I have had tyre pressure warnings several times before on previous Skoda models, including nearly every time I crossed the old Forth road bridge, and I was not very concerned. When I got home, I checked the pressures according to the sticker in the fuel filler cap and right rear was correct as specced: 2.5 bar BUT the left rear was at 4.6 bar. The front tyres were both to spec at about 2.6 bar. I set all the tyres to the specced pressures and reset the tyre pressure warning system. So I have been driving the car for about 7 months with the left rear tyre grossly over inflated. I never checked the tyre pressures since receiving the car, obviously I should have. Correcting the pressures has not made a noticeable difference to handling or ride. BUT I suggest that owners do check that their tyres are pressured to spec and do not rely on the warning system.
  5. Lots of people have, see Constant creaking and rattling from Boot. I cured my rattle very easily and completely with a squirt of grease.
  6. Thanks iron3k, i squirted some lithium based grease around the dampers for a complete cure. I don't have the tool so I did not try to adjust anything. I think it is just a greasing issue because the noise started recently and I had never heard it before.
  7. A bit more to it than that. If the F.P. airbag is disabled, one of the overhead warning lights stays on all the time and the meaning of the light is not obvious. If the F.P. airbag is enabled, two warning lights come on for about 30 seconds and then both go off. Actually, it's more complicated than that. The best thing to do is to open the F.P. door wide and check the disable switch on the A pillar. Here the OFF/ON position is clear. You need the skeleton key in the key fob to operate the switch. I hope this is not a common problem.
  8. Somewhere on this site I read about annoying warning lights in the overhead panel. It made me check up on the annoying warning lights I have. One light that is always on is something to do with the curtesy lights but the other light was telling me that the front passenger air bag was disabled. It seems that the F.P. airbag has been disabled since I received the new car 6 months ago. Why on earth should the F.P.airbag have been disabled before delivery? I am very grateful to the person who made the post that drew my attention to these warning lights. I would probably not have looked up what the lights meant if not.
  9. Me too, it sounds like the boot floor is loose or the parcel shelf is loose. From the driver's seat it sounds like it comes from the rear left. I checked the rear left seat belt buckle and I don't think it's that. I don't think it's the boot lid either, it sounds like it comes from inside the boot. Mk4 hatchback.
  10. Good idea for a thread amongst all the miseries. I have a 1.5 petrol manual SE hatch. I like lots of things about the car but especially... The engine, adequate power with good economy. I have long term 48 mpg and it is improving, 55 mpg since last refuel. The engine is also quiet and smooth. It will be perfect for long motorway journeys when allowed to make them. The space and comfort of the cabin and boot. The interior is generously sized for four adults and the seats are comfortable and everyone has plenty of leg room. The interior is quiet at speed and the five USB ports are useful. The boot is huge. The dash and instruments are easy on the eye. The ride is good. I love the exterior styling. It's a big saloon but looks more like a coupe. The shape resembles a Jaguar or an Audi. Mine is petrol blue and it suits the colour very well. I have received many compliments from strangers and neighbours about the car. So, I am very enthusiastic about the car. I did have a problem at first: the gear box was very notchy selecting third gear, it was as if the gear lever did not have enough travel forward to select 3rd reliably, I contacted the sales team and was asked to put some miles on the car to see if it improved but it got worse. The gears started to crunch when I selected 3rd. In January, the gear box was replaced and it is good now. Some of the user-interface technology is a pain and not really usable when you are driving but it is better than I had in the MK3 Octavia. The built in wrist-rest helps a lot. The actual dash board, the speedo etc is very good, I marvel at the clarity of the electronic display.
  11. After 1200 miles I still have the same problem which is that 3rd gear selection is unreliable, sometimes in and sometimes not. The dealer is going to replace the gear box when a new one becomes available. After that mileage, I am still uncertain that 3rd is engaged. Either the resistance from the gear change mechanism is so strong that I think the gear is selected when it is not, or the gear jumps out as soon as I release the clutch. I will let you know what happens next. I will say that I am getting full support from the dealers and the car is a beaut, especially in petrol blue.
  12. When I asked for a brochure I was told by the dealers that they no longer printed brochures and that all the information was on the Skoda web site. Has any one seen a brochure for the Mk4 series?
  13. I have a 4 week old Octavia MK4 SE First Edition. I have recently asked Skoda UK how to activate the following missing features which are all listed as standard equipment for the SE model on the Skoda website... Rear parking sensor with manoeuver assist (rear sensors work but where's manouever assist) Cruise control with speed limiter (cruise control works but where's the speed limiter) Folding parcel shelf Electric boot release Voice control It sounds that you are adding the lack of auto dimming rear view mirror. So far I have not heard back from Skoda UK. Also my bluetooth phone will not connect to the infotainment. However, it's a great car and I am averaging about 51 mpg.
  14. I took mine back to the dealer a second time and they agreed the gear box was difficult. They contacted Skoda UK and they were not aware of a problem. The dealer tried another brand new MK4 and said the gear box on that car was also difficult. They asked me to put some miles on the car, about 1,000 and come back for further testing. I am OK to do that because the dealer agreed that there was a problem and registered that I had made a complaint. So now with about 750 miles covered, I think that the gear box has improved or that I am more used to it. The mis-selection of 3rd does not happen so often but I still occasionally miss 3rd gear.
  15. I agree that the infotainment is bonkers, you need a co-pilot to operate it on the move. No problems with the 2 cylinder mode but lane assist is very annoying. It's ok on M roads and A roads where the lanes are well marked and wide but on B roads and narrow country lanes it can not cope. It keeps on bonging and saying 'please keep to the middle of the lane' over and over when I am trying to avoid broken road surfaces and pot holes etc. It's a bit annoying on main roads when you always have to indicate when turning off, even when there is no one there to see your indicators. It would be better if it defaulted to OFF. On my car, a hatch, there is no rear wiper and today I bought a squeegy which I will need to use every morning to clear the back screen. As soon as I am moving this is not a problem but first thing, I have to manually clear the rear screen. First world problems! It seems that one press on the remote door lock will set the internal motion detector alarm. I had that on a Fabia a few years ago and accidentally locked my wife in the car as I walked off to get a paper. The car doors were dead locked and interior motion sensor was activated. My wife was very very very angry. Beware. Other than that and my 3rd gear problems, I think the car is a beauty.
  16. Sorry to hear that, cboyle7, I'm half scared to drive mine in case something like that happens.
  17. I think all the 1.5s at that time suffered from the problems because it was fixed by software. I expect that later engines had the software upgrade from new and that some owners were happy to accept the problems. For the same reason, I expect that the 2020 1,5s will not have the same problem. I was just reading about the 2030 deadline too. Is it possible to achieve by 2030? I have read that Jaguar and Volvo have already declared that they will only build electric vehicles by 2030. 1. How many ordinary people can pay more than £30k for a car? 2. How many people can accept a car with range less than about 300 miles? 3. How are we all going to get plug-in points? 4. Where is the power for those points going to come from? 5. Where is all the lithium for the batteries going to come from? Whatever, either the oil runs out and we have to use renewables and change our behaviour or we find vast new reserves of oil and we all fry, or drown.
  18. I understand that the only engine that kangarood was the 1.5 Tsi used from late 2017. It replaced the 1.4 Tsi. I reported two problems. 1. the engine would automatically rev up to about 1800 rpm when you were trying to make a slow maneuver. This was fixed with an early software update. 2. The engine had a slow throttle response such that when you tried to pull away normally, the engine would almost die and then recover. This lead to nose diving and hopping, like a learner who is still learning how control the clutch and accelerator smoothly. This was partially fixed with another software update. After the update, the car was much easier to drive but it was still too easy to stall the engine if you were not careful to give the car extra revs and a little extra time every time you pulled away. I read that cars with the same engine coupled to the DSG gear box suffered from severe hesitation when pulling away. I now have an Octy Mk4 with the same engine and a manual gear box. I have had no problems at all with the pull-away. The engine is very quiet and refined and is giving me 53 mpg. I have not tested it yet but on paper, 150bhp and a top speed of 140 mph is more than I will ever need. I wanted this engine again because of its combined frugality, refinement and power. Skippy has gone and the good features remain.
  19. I was told the same but I am taking the car back soon for the dealers to test it for a few days. I will let you know what happens.
  20. I have Octy mk4 with 1,5 Tsi manual. Previous car was MK3 with 1.5 Tsi manual. The Mk3 was difficult to drive at first. The software upgrade improved matters but it still needed concentration and care to pull away from rest smoothly, The same engine in the Mk4 has not caused me any problems at all. I do live in a 20mph zone and the fist minute or two I stay at a low and steady speed.
  21. Dyrnog, it seems the gear box in the Mk 4 is very new, 2019, what year is your Karoq? What you say is what I get: two or three layers of strong resistance. Sometimes, quite often, I think I have got third gear selected and when I let the clutch up it either jumps out or I find I have not properly selected third gear. Then I get the grating. Still like the body work.
  22. Rep[l;y to Dyrnog, yes exactly
  23. I washed my week old Octavia MK4 hatch SE on Monday because I had used it a lot at the weekend and the weather had been very wet and foggy and the country roads very muddy. The best way to appreciate the build of a car is to wash it because you look and touch every part of the visible body work. I was so impressed with the build quality that I thought I would write a few words. The clam shell bonnet is really quite soft and yielding, I guess this is to reduce pedestrian injury and to reduce weight. The bonnet is large and stiffened by the longitudinal creases but the metal yields easily under light hand pressure but readily springs back into shape. The bonnet is supported open by two gas struts and my guess is that this stops it flopping. This is all incidental, the fit of the bonnet to the wings and the radiator fitting is perfect to millimetre accuracy all round when it is closed. The bonnet-close on the front wings merges into a deep sharp crease in the front doors at the A pillar and this is where I started to think about the design. That crease continues along the front doors, along the back doors, along the rear wings, across the hatch where it forms a neat rear aerodynamic wing and matches into the rear light clusters. It then obviously continues along the other side back to the front wing. There are about 9 large and heavy body components, all independently fixed to the frame of the car, involved in matching up to this crease line, and they are all absolutely perfect. All the other fits, the doors and the hatch, were all perfectly set up, but the long continuous crease made me stop and think. The manufacturing ability and confidence in matching up that crease line impressed me a lot. The paint work is also perfect. My Octy is petrol blue and I think it looks great. The only thing that grates is third gear, but that's another story.
