Okay - I'll try and answer some of these questions:

    1) Yes, the suspension on the Scout is very much different.  It is described by Skoda as the Rough Road suspension - and is an option on a SE-L 4x4 spec Octy.  The ride height is 10mm heigher than a standard suspension Octy.

    2) The standard Scout suspension is very capable.  You definately need a FL Scout (LHD obviosly), but having owned a non-FL and now a FL Scout, I can confirm the suspension is much...much better.

    3) On the non-FL variants on the Scout (which had a 6 speed manual), you could toe a LOT.  2000kgs braked, 750kgs non-breaked.  On a DSG gearbox Scout [standard on FL], it is 1800kgs braked and 680kgs non-braked.

    4) Sadly cannot commend on ARB mounts....sorry.

PS....A Scout can be fun....but it is more waffty.  Really see if you can get your hands on a 186BHP Scout (because they are SOOOO much better than the 150bhp variants).

Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it.

I'm looking at the MK3 pre-FL, 184bhp, with a dsg. I guess what I'm worried about most is that it'll feel like a boat in corners, especially as it sits higher than any other octy. But I guess I'll need to just try and buy a few octy estate parts and see what can get fitted.

There doesn't seem to be any online info on what fits and what not from an aftermarket parts perspective. Most companies just say parts fit octy MK3 estate, but there's no further breakdown of vrs, normal and scout, so I guess I was hoping someone here tried replacing some of the parts and had some experiences to share :)

You can’t just dangle the bit about not being able to take RHD cars abroad without a bit more info! ;)

You were right about the last post as I had to edit a few things.

Ah apologies for the link then :) I'm sure people will find it if needed.

Basically I considered making a full conversion from RHD to LHD as well and the money involved is insane to put it mildly. Complete dash needs replacing, steering column moved, pedals moved, all front door interior swapped, and many many other things. Not to mention the car would probably have tons of rattles and we're talking around 10K cost as a bare minimum. Even considered buying a crashed LHD VRS and swapping parts, but it's just too big of a pain.

Next thing i looked at was a permanent gopro mounted in the lower left corner of the windshield, wiring it to the pioneer, so that when overtaking or turning left on any intersection would be needed, i'd turn the camera on to see if i'll crash into any oncoming vehicles... would be possible, but definitely not enjoyable, especially considering i LOVE driving this car so much and basically any Alps mountain passes, or nice A roads would never be possible to drive on in a...well...enjoyable way :)

So i do have to part with my Octy and 370z Nismo, and find something else :) Currently looking at a Scout to get me over the first 2 or so years, before going with either the new VRS or chasing my dream and buying a b8.5 RS4 avant in Germany :)

  3. Talk about an old octy topic resurrection.  In may 2018 I purchased a 370z Nismo and Octy was handed or gifted to my wife, who's been driving it ever since.

As we're moving abroad and RHD vehicles can't be taken with us all 3 vehicles including our octy are now for sale.  Since my last update, we've removed the front lip, and Rieger Tuning side skirts. Front lip was damaged in a multis. carpark by the missus, and as the car looked wonky as hell without it, we removed the side skirts as well, although i still have them. We've also installed the Pioneer unit so it has android auto and apple carplay.

I'll hopefully stay a Briskodian as i'm just about to pull the trigger on a LHD MK3 Octavia Scout :)

  4. Hi all,

To make a long story short, we're moving to mainland Europe, my UK MK3 Octy VRS is now on autotrader and i'm looking to buy a 2017 LHD MK3 Octavia Scout TDI (184, 4x4, DSG).

I'm not buying the Scout because I need a offroad vehicle, or a raised one, but rather as choice in the UK is quite limited, and importing during covid just wont happen fast enough for our schedule. So i'll have to live with the scout for a while which means i'll do a remap or tuning box (remap preferred if possible with Shark or Revo), and as it's raised i'm assuming it'll be like a boat in corners (if not, please correct me :) )

During my VRS TSI ownership i've done loads of research on suspension and ended up with Bilstein B12s with Eibach springs which have been amazing.  But I can't find a single website, manufacturer, forum topic which would have a MK3 Scout on coilovers, or even lowering springs for that matter (probably for a reason lol), but as i know myself quite well, I'll want to make the Scout handle somewhat well before i'll start enjoying it, so a few questions I'd need help with:

    - Is the Scout suspension in any way different from the MK3 standard or VRS estate, apart from being raised (i'm assuming via springs only and dampers are probably the same?) and on higher sidewall tires?

    - Would I be able to just swap the Scout ones with i.e. Bilstein B12s and would it fit and work fine?

    - i know Scout has an increased towing capability so it sounds like some components have been strengthent, but not sure if springs or dampers would be those

    - and can I assume that ARB mounts and shape would be identical to the mk3 VRS estate as an example and i'd be able to actually use Eibach ones as an example?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, and yes yes i know... scout wasn't made to be fun, but that doesn't mean we can't try and make it fun right? :)

Can you tell me please " How do you find the Dunlops ? "

    Thanks

    AG

Dunlop's are great for the money, but not on par with pilot sports 4s. Dunlop's got better turn in feel as they got stiffer side walls, but dry grip after ps4s hook in, is loads better with pilot sports.

I think pilots are faster but Dunlop's feel better on turn in, which makes Dunlops more engaging to drive, but they definitely let go faster than pilots.

I'd take Dunlop's again if I'd want to save some cash on tyres, and I had them on a few cars already

How do they cope with wheel spin?  just had a stage 1 and my pilotsport 4s just cannot cope

Anything close to 300 bhp and fwd will have wheel spin, no matter what tyres you have on. I currently run Michelin pilot sports 4s on a 245 section tires and first and second gear still light them up, so forget about solving that with hardware.

So you just need to moderate the accelerator, and not use it as a on/off button. Anything over 5000 in second and later is quite ok actually.

Have read a lot about IHI is20  turboers that dies especially if the car gets a re-map but also on standard cars that have driven quite a few t.km.

I can figure out how big the problem is on Octavia VRS. Is it 0.1% or is it 5% who dies?
And if the turbo dies, is it a "just" new turbo or is it often with complet engine failure to follow?

    my car is from 11/2014 (32000 KM) and has a turbo 06K 145 702 T is it safe to re-map ?

What are your experiences with re-map and dead turbo

50K miles running a bit under 320Hp and 374 ft. lbs and no problems whatsoever (apart from the clutch which gave up). The car is 2013 VRS TSI and has 92K miles on it currently. Also been running 3 different intakes during that time and it's all good. If the turbo goes, IS38 goes in

So I've had some very expensive tyres fitted to the front. Michelin pilot sport 4s 235 35 19 I could have cried but my god they're good.

They really transform the car. I've put the same tyres but 245 width on all corners, and it's like driving a new car.

The only thing I dislike about them is the soft sidewalls, so it took some time to get used to the not as immediate turn-in (or feeling like it's less immediate).

I've been looking at this unit as well, how did you get on?

Still waiting for it to be delivered unfortunately. I'll update this thread as soon as I get my hands on it.

I'm hoping it will arrive sometime next week.

  10. Been a while since my money pit was fed, so I've addressed another pain point in the car which kept making me look at newer vehicles - lack of Android auto and navigation.

    So I've bought this:

    https://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/avic-evo1-oc2-mtb

I've been torn between this and Alpines octy unit, but Apline looked quite laggy on YT videos.

I'm getting it in about a week and will try to install it myself. Let's see how it goes...

  11. Another update for my Octy and a bit of background on my brake situation.

After swapping the OEM rotors for Mtec grooved and pads for ebc yellow stuff, I've been having some problems. First doing the job by myself for the first time, I've not cleaned the hubs and/or wheels enough it seems, so after approx. 2000 miles I've started getting brake judder and disc runout. I've only learned after researching judder causes that a fraction of a millimetre is enough to cause it, so wirebrushing only clearly wasn't enough. Also the grooved disks were annoying as hell as they produce a humming sound when breaking.

So I wanted to fix the issue without resurfacing rotors as I wanted to get rid of the noises as well.

Since yesterday I have now fitted Brembo rotors and Brembo HP2000 pads part numbers below for anyone interested), and Audi RS3 brake duct's bought from AKS for a little bit extra durability for my summer roadtrip in Austrian Alps.

    Brake duct's (not my pic):genuine-rs3-8v-brake-ducts.jpg

    Octavia mk3 vrs part numbers:

    Brake pads - brembo 07.b314.81
    Rotors - brembo 09.C306.11

  12. Finally washed the car after several weekends of rain, and tested also how the gtechniq C5 works. It's amazing I didn't need to use the wheel cleaner but just spray on snowfoam and brushes.
