  1. Hi We went from a Superb Hatchback to an L&K Kodiaq and personally we found the boot more versatile in the Superb than the Kodiaq despite the Kodiaq claiming to have a larger boot. I struggle to understand how Skoda have not thought of a way of removing the seats to make the car more versatile. A colleague at work has a Kodiaq and also just got a Dacia Jogger as a second car to replace his i10. He finds the boot better on the Jogger than the Kodiaq and the rear two seats in the Jogger just unclip in about 1 minute and can be removed and stored.
  2. Picked my new Kodiaq up last night, its not a VRS but is the 2.0TSI 190PS Petrol L&K and had a quick look under the bonnet and it had a cover on it.
  3. Thanks all, really appreciate the advice. Am probably worrying over nothing with taking a brand new car on holiday so quickly but but feel a little OCD with it all wanting to make sure no issues etc.
  4. Looking for some advice if I can. When I first got my Superb (current car) I had plenty of time to get some mileage on it locally to and from work on A/B Roads and in town etc before loading the car with a full family, full roof box and full boot for a long motorway trip for a holiday. It is increasingly looking likely that my Kodiaq replacement will be here very near to a holiday. It has been in Emden nearly 3 weeks and is still showing as being there, albeit the dealer is being told by Skoda UK it is on track for delivery and being registered in September. If I am lucky I might have put about 300 miles on it before setting off. The holiday I have booked for late October involves a mixed Motorway and A Road drive from Lincolnshire to the Scottish Highlands which again will be fully loaded weight wise. The first day is about 300 miles to Glasgow and then a further 150 miles up into the Highlands the next day. Having read the manual it says The driving style during the first 1,500 km determines the quality of the engine run-in process. For the first 1,000 km load the engine to maximum 3/4 of the highest permissible engine speed and avoid using a trailer. Over the next 500 km the engine speed can be slowly increased. The car is the 2L Petrol DSG so can I assume just drive normally, thinking of the current car which is a 2L Petrol DSG the REVs never go above 2500 on the motorway and normal driving and only occasionally up to ~3000 on a couple of hills in Scotland. Obviously loading wise the car will be full (4 adults, full boot and roof box for the journey up). Is there anything I need to be conscious of given the newness of the vehicle. Obviously will take spare oil with me as I always do, my current Superb tends to use a little (~250ml) on the journey there and again on the way back. Apologies for what a probably silly questions but am just a little concerned with the newness and long distance etc. Thanks
  5. Looking for some advice if I may. I am a fan of winter tyres and have the Continental TS850 on my Superb and they have been excellent. Am taking delivery of a new Kodiaq next month so will be back in the market for new tyres etc. My knowledge of these things is slim to say the least but by my limited thinking I thought that the twice yearly stretching to remove and fit the tyres would not be good for the longevity of the tyres so went for a 2nd set of rims which after 7 years has meant the winters have never come off the rims and the summer tyres have only been changed twice. I appreciate 7 years is a long time for tyres but I have them checked by a trusted garage each year before and after use. I guess my question is will swapping and changing tyres each time be damaging for 19" tyres? Thanks
  6. Looking for some advice on the insurance side of things, ideally without needing to contact my insurance with a "what if" question. I currently drive a Superb and switch to and from my winter tyres each year and my insurer is more than happy with that. The winter tyres are on their own rims but are identical to those the car was shipped from the factory so again insurance does not care. Will be taking delivery of a new Kodiaq next month and am considering my options. My local dealer is saying they cannot get hold of identical rims so have offered something from the accessory catalogue. Will insurers consider this a modification or more importantly a chargeable one given that the rims will be official VAG parts. Thanks Paul
  7. Currently got an active order with them for a Kodiaq. Bought my Superb from them in 2016 and more than happy to return. They are as frustrated with Skoda as the rest of us in terms of them telling dealers one thing on wait times and then it often being twice that long. I get regular updates via email with no prompting.
  8. Ordered mine last week (25th Feb), financed confirmed on the 28th and was told 15 to 19 weeks for delivery.
  9. Quick thanks to all. If that's the case of dealer fit then I have more time to think. I remember back in 2016 ordering them for factory fit on the Superb as it was cheaper. Cannot remember the actual figures now.
  10. Thanks, that would be very helpful if you do not mind. Likewise we have not had problems with the usual RoRo ferries with adjustable linkspans. Calmac don't tend to have them it is literally a steep concrete ramp and the ramp from the ferry dropped on it.
  11. Hi all As the title suggests I have a dilemma over mud flaps. I have ordered an L&K to replace my Superb L&K and the one thing that I have not added is mud flaps. I had mud flaps on my Superb but found that they very often caught when going on and off ferries in the Scottish Highlands. That is when i could even get on the ferries. They tend to have some sharp angles depending on tides and more than a few occasions I have not been able to get on due to either the front or the back being too low to the ground. Now I know the Kodiaq is so much higher and that is the reason I have gone with it as we want to be able to get around the Scottish Highlands and out to the islands etc with the car loaded. Anyone have any experience that they could share, I am currently 50/50 on calling the dealer and having them add mudflaps to the order so it comes fitted with them. Thanks
  12. Hi Test driving a Kodiaq on Saturday and if all goes well am planning on placing an order. Can someone explain the process for me so that I know what happens as I have never had PCP before. The last time I ordered a new car from Skoda I paid £500 and then the balance when it arrived. It was a living inheritance so was a cash payment. What will happen on Saturday, I understand I need to pay £500 and then hand my current car over when the new one eventually arrives. But I am confused about how to apply for the PCP, what happens. Do I need to take with me documents to prove income etc for a credit check on Saturday, presumably they need me to sign a finance contract at some point. Is it easy to be approved? Apologies for what must seem stupid questions but I am struggling to find the answers online and the dealer has not requested I take anything in with me. Thanks Paul
  13. Am looking at an L&K TSI190. I did ask them all if there was any specific part or upgrade that could slow it down and was told no. The only thing to slow it down was if I wanted a diesel rather than petrol.
  14. Am currently looking at upgrading from a Superb to a Kodiaq, details in a different post, but wanted to say that I have spoken to three dealers (my local and two on Car Wow) and they are all saying 15 to 19 weeks from order to delivery.
  15. Thanks @Yogi-Bear, just had a facepalm moment. I had not even thought about using a small folding step-stool.
  16. Thanks all. Yes the L&K comes with virtual cockpit as standard and also Ventilated Leather Seats which is why I am concerned about that upgrade when from what I can read it is just the ergo seats vs non-ergo seats. I must admit to be skeptical and am struggling to understand what the £775 cost actually gets you. Interesting to read 12 months wait, the dealers system said 12+ weeks, 15+ weeks for diesels. But the dealer reckoned it would be 15 weeks for the spec I was looking at. I do admit to being surprised by that, as I had already assumed it would be longer. Thinking about how I use DCC on my Superb, I must admit to not really using Comfort mode as it is a bit too soft given the state of our roads. I do use Sport just to get into where I work as we have some speed humps that I find the car really comes down hard on when set to Normal no matter what speed you do. Leaving that off would be a good way to save £1100. Without it is Drive mode selection, what does that give you etc. Not had a Skoda without DCC. Like you @Kenny R I find Park Assist pointless in that I have never used it as I don't really trust computer controlled cars in that way being a computer geek/programmer. I was only adding it as I assumed it would increased the value of the car in the future. Have got the virtual pedal for the boot on my Superb and don't use it that often, I am the only one in the family that gets it to work. In terms of Running Boards, the reason I was looking at adding them was to help with loading a roof box. We currently use one each time we go on holiday and am not sure if the extra in the Kodiaq boot will be fully sufficient to do away with the roof box. @BoxerBoy mentioned that he thought the boot floor space was similar to the Superb and from looking at the one in the showroom we thought the same.
  17. Hi All After some feedback if I can? Am not a massive car person, tend to only know to put fuel in one end and other fluids in the other if you know what I mean. Currently driving a fantastic Superb L&K TSI220 which I have had from new, it will be 7 years old this Easter (60000 miles) and if I am honest the only real failing it has is the ride height ( road clearance ). We are a family of four photographers who holiday in the Scottish Highlands a couple of times a year and despite the car being aimed more at a cruising style road it has done itself proud up on the single track roads. The springs and shocks were all replaced at about 45k, had a couple of leaky shocks and a chipped spring so did the lot in one go. Even with new the car drops quickly with the rear wheel disappearing inside the body. However, we have various areas ( Islands, Shetland, Orkney plus areas on the mainland ) that we would love to visit that the car just cannot get to. It is simply too low when four adults and full camera equipment onboard. Last year we were unable to get over several islands as both the front and the rear of the car would have grounded. So, looking to move on and have been looking at the Kodiaq L&K with the TSI190 engine etc in Petrol Blue – never seen this colour in real life yet but in videos it looks great and I do intend to have it coated (detailed) with the same as I did with my Superb which made the paintwork look very good. On my Superb I have mud flaps which I have caught at the back a few times in Scotland so am not planning on getting them on the Kodiaq – is my thinking dodgy here? Am looking at the following upgrades, am I wasting any money here? · Crew protection assist and rear side airbags. · Driver alert with fatigue sensor. · Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) including off-road function when in combination with 4x4. · Rear seat backrest release. · Textile floor mats with lounge steps in rear (middle row for 7-seats). · Park assist. Parks the car in parallel or bay spaces. Includes front and rear parking sensors. · Leather upholstery with ventilated front seats and massage function includes electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, cushion depth adjustment, electrically adjustable lumbar support. · Family Pack includes door edge protection, manual roller blinds for rear side windows and bin in door panel. · Winter pack - heated front and rear seats. Includes heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel with paddles for DSG, tri-zone climate control, heated windscreen, and heated windscreen washer nozzles. · Travel Assist. Includes traffic sign recognition, adaptive lane assist, predictive adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist. DSG engines also have emergency assist. · Running boards Intending to buy on PCP but after four years my intention at this point will be to keep the car for a few more years but having the option to hand back and start again nearer the 2030 cut off for new petrol cars could be advantageous. Have not made my mind up on the wheels at the moment, I like the really look the of 20inch but having seen tyre prices I am not sure I like them that much so looking at the 19" Procyon alloy wheels with anthracite aero covers. Also the upgrade to Leather upholstery with ventilated front seats and massage function is concerning given that the L&K already comes with Leather ventilated seats which if they are similar to the Superb are already electrically adjustable with memory function and lumbar support. Has anyone got more info on this, the guy in the dealership was sketchy on it - given it is £775 is it worth it? Many apologies for the length but was not sure if I should break this up or leave in one. Any thoughts are really appreciated. Cheers Paul
  18. Thanks Both Just got in from work and having a drink before looking at this a bit deeper and a slight update. Today both journeys had back discs of much reduced temperature. The difference being the start of the journey. Handbrake off Pause Handbrake on Pause Handbrake off Leave Rather than just handbrake off and drive off. The car did feel or whether it was just my imagination a little more sprightly tonight driving home.
  19. Will do, will be doing that tomorrow. My last MOT was well before this noise started
  20. Thanks, will give that a try on both back wheels, it is both that are getting hot. I would have thought the garage would have done something like that, they said that they had stripped both sides - cleaned and checked. The car does not appear to be 'being held back' if you know what I mean and it will coast without loosing speed in neutral and as I say fuel consumption has not changed either. I would normally get about 500/550 from a tank and am on track for that consistently. Could it be bearings at all? Car is 7 years old and 55k+ miles. Over Covid due to living within someone in the extremely vulnerable category the car hardly moved I think I managed 2500 miles which is about a 5th of what I would normally do.
  21. Hi Can I get peoples thoughts on a query. After a 10 mile county road drive with light brake usage should the back brake discs be very hot to touch. Fronts are fine. Noticed a warm smell for a while but this is all I can find. To start with i just thought new tyres Goodyear F1 6s but that was back in April and have now dkne about 3000 mile since they went on. Rims are not warm and neither are tyres. Fuel consumption is normal, so far got 1/4 tank left and have done 450 miles which for the 220TSi is good. One thing I have noticed is an increase in road noise from the back when you get above 30. Garage tell me there is nothing they can see and have checked brakes and done a recalibration on the electronic handbrake. Thanks for any and all advice.
  22. Hi Can anyone give a 110% car numpty some guidance. My mother this evening has lost my fathers debit card, it slipped down the back of the storage compartment in front of the DSG. Had a quick google and I think it is a case of removing the side panel to try and get access. See attached image, the panel being where the red line is pointing to. Any thoughts / advice gratefully received. Thanks Paul
  23. Just to finalise the topic. Thanks for all the input, when my mechanic came to look around he was struggling to find anything none VW. These lasted 50,000 mile and 5 years and I do not intend to still have the car in 5 years or 50,000 miles time. Had all four shocks replaced and all four springs and the car feels much better. Turns out one of the original springs looked broken at the very top, just a small chuck missing from the very end of the spring not actually in the spring itself. Price wise, yes not the cheapest.
  24. Hi Wanted a bit of clarity if I can, my car was hit this evening whilst parked when a car was backing out a parking space. The only damage is literally the lens cover right on the corner of the car at the back. The actual vehicle did not touch mine it was his spare wheel that was attached to the boot door (land rover style). Only caught the driver as it was 10 seconds after parking and he tried to drive away. The car is that clear that the dirt has not even been touched so fairly confident and happy that it is just the light. Image attached. I did take it to my friendly mechanic who confirmed just the light the car is fine. Now they were just closing so did not check any prices but they had no idea how much a light would be. Looking online I have noticed the following: https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/hella-13648353.html Is this the light I need? It mentions LED but was convinced that mine was none LED but then I know nothing about cars. Car is an L&K 2016 Plate. The reason I am thinking this is what with the Excess I am considering just telling my insurers tomorrow "for notification purposes only" and paying for the replacement. Would welcome thoughts? Thanks Paul
  25. Hi I have a 2016 plate L&K 220TSI (45k miles) which I have just been told two of the shock absorbers are starting to mist so have been told to consider replacement at somepoint in the next 12 months. The garage I use is an independent and have been a customer for decades so trust their thought process on timings etc but I will look at getting them done when the finances allow as I, whilst knowing naff all about cars from a technical aspect, understand the critical aspect of those parts. Apart from this the car I have been told is still in excellent condition and has only just had new brakes all round. I have been googling around and notice that I am in for a "interesting" invoice given that I have DCC with it being an L&K. The garage when the time comes say they will give me two prices one for OE parts and one for aftermarket ones and I am wondering which way to jump. They are leaning towards OE parts as being the better option through quality etc. Having Googled as mentioned I see the Billstein B16's as being the ones for my car with electronic adjustable suspension which is what I assume I have with it being DCC? In terms of driving I don't really have a problem with the suspension, albeit I have always had to put it in Sports mode to go over speed humps etc as I find the car hits bottom if that is the right phrase if left on normal and certainly on comfort. I have moved to parking in a different car park at work to avoid these going forward to help prolong the lift of what I have. What would the more experienced members suggest for this car, am not after anything fancy etc it is just a normal family car and it normally sits in comfort / normal depending on what is loaded into the car. I think what I am trying to get at is am after something that is good value for money etc, but would be happy to spend an extra amount for a big difference in quality etc. Also am not interested in lowering the height of the car as I feel it is already low enough. Also would it be recommended to replace springs at the same time given they will essentially have the car in bits to do the shocks, especially given the state of UK roads these days and if I move away from OE parts do I need to inform insurance as I have seen that mentioned online. Thanks for any advice and if I need to clarify anything let me know. As I say just a normal guy with very little knowledge of cars (well oil & water one end and petrol at the other etc). Paul
