  1. Seems VAG could be choosing to ship cars with known problems and address them as they are reported by individuals. Know of someone with a brand new Audi TT with wind noise from the top of the doors. Was told "Yes, its a known problem and we have a fix, leave the car with us and we'll sort it" Shame on VAG... My wife has complained about our vRS, she said "It's too fast...."
  2. I regret the problems I had with my A5 Elegance TDI but I'm happy with my vRS. Plus SWMBO likes it and she never gelled with the TDI. I loved driving the TDI. I'll think twice about another *new* Octavia but only long enough to check what they're like instead of ordering one on the basis that it's a Skoda.
  3. It is a known problem to both. They replaced door seals front and rear on my car and there are various "versions" of the door seals. If you have the patientence and energy keep bugging the dealer. Best of luck.
  4. I'd paid for oil changes at the dealer at 4,000 and 12,000 and was also told by my dealer to wait for 20k before service, despite the light coming on at 15,500 miles. Very annoying doing another 4.5k miles with the constant "Service now" reminder... *edit* Apart from a few trips to France we do all our miles in short journey trips. No, I'm not a cabbie..
  5. OK - Been reading this thread with interest. I currently have a May 2005 (05) 2.0 TDI elegance. I love driving the car, can't fault the drive, power, comfort, space or economy. However.... Since having the car its spent over 4 weeks (in total) in the garage for the following faults - in no particular order... Creaking front doors (creaking when driving and doors shut, not when opening). Sticking Handbreak. Rattling from front doors. Wind noise front windows. Wind noise rear quarters* Coating coming off rear offside door handle (interior). Rattling speakers. Rear washer pipe splitting (3 times). Front nearside electric window refusing to close. Rattling from overheard storage. Clutch slipping. Clutch failure. Wont start when engine is warm* Misfire when engine is warm* Replaced fuel filter. Very noisy fuel pump* (* denotes - fault still exists) Plus damage caused by dealer when in for rectification of the above faults. Paint scratches Oil spilled inside car Cleaning fluid spilled on door trim staining it Plus - On average, it would use 10-15 lites of fuel when in for any job. The most notable issue was when it went in for the rear quarter windows to be replaced and came out with a note saying "Did you know the clutch was slipping?" I was told it was drivable but would need to come back in for replacement clutchunder warranty (18k miles). I managed to drive 4 miles before it gave up and I can to call Skoda Assist. After the car came out with the new clutch it had developed the misfire and starting problem. Most frustrating... Taking the car in, leaving it all day to get a call at 1659hrs to say "Your car is ready for collection". Asking if the fault is rectified and being told "I'm only the receptionist and all the technicians have left. Arriving to collect the car and seeing "Could not reproduce fault" written on the job sheet. So, why am I telling you this? Don't accept that you bought the car and therefore it is your problem! Get legal advice and make sure you keep a full record of everything done and every call you make to the dealer and Skoda UK. Remain calm at all times Be in possession of the facts before you call the dealer, keep them on their toes. Explain that you are preparing to reject the car and ask them to consider them finding you an identical car and swapping. Don't sell your car, you'll get nothing for it with the problems you have. Not declaring all the troubles or lying about them may land you in trouble. Just for the record, I found that the techicians at my dealership couldnt keep quiet about the KNOWN faults with the early batch of A5 Octavias. Examples include; "Yeah, a few of us went across to the factory and there is a room filled with rear doors with various modifications done to eliminate the wind noise, all the early cars did it" "New Octavia...Rattles and leaks, bain of my life" (That was the service manager!) "All these early cars develop the rattle in the doors" Where am I know? Well I got the dealer to swap my car for one of a similar value but 6 months newer. I wont be going there for servicing OR my next new car. Hope this helps. JT PS - Please don't ask me to name the dealer, They have some decent staff and I dont want to put them at risk for the sake of shaming the crappy ones. Good luck!
  6. I'll echo the comment about checking for dampness in the boot. Mine came unclipped three times and each time Skoda put it back on and insisted that I MUST use VAG approved washer fluid or they wouldn't repair it again. They say that minerals in the water crystalize inside the washer jet and cause a blockage. The subsequent blockage causes the pipe to break at its joint.
  7. Would have liked to attend this one but sadly going shopping in France... Rgds Jeff
  8. Go into disk management and make sure you have assigned a disk signature to it. A wizard should start up allowing you to write the signature. DO NOT CONVERT IT TO A DYNAMIC DISK (if prompted) Disk management is; right click on my computer, manage, quite near the bottom. HTH
  9. Mmmmm, I think I need one of those. My TTG was mounted to the left of the "pop up lid " storage box. Easy for me to see, no so easy for me to reach to alter or program a route. I hadn't thought about the airbag, thanks for the heads up on that. What I do find frustrating is when I lean over to use the TTG I end up opening the "pop up lid" box. Not serious, just annoying.
  10. I have had the same "irritating" rattle in both driver and passenger doors (near to the window and central pillar) ever since I had the car. It's my fault its still doing it as I didn't take it straight back when I got it but if I'm honest I was so happy with the car in all other respects that I'd ignored it. Now I know its not just me I think I'll book her in for a check up. Jeff
  11. Hi, Anyone know here I can get a TomTom Go 300 - Map of France on SD card? TomTom have them online but no details of P&P and I need it up and running by Friday. Anyone got said item for sale? TIA Jeff
  12. Interesting stuff on your site... I would suggest that this really isn't your colour...
  13. Hi, I'm in the market for a new car and the Octy is top of my list. I desperately need one before June as I'm cuurently with a car (unless you count a 1992 corolla 1.3 auto as a car) and I am driving to France. I have therefore considered a 'nearly-new' from a main dealer. I'm after (minimum spec) Elegance hatch 2.0 TDI Leather Sports suspension / 17s Black or Silver Prices for this spec on a 54 plate are hovering around the
  14. Hi, My car (not a Skoda ) is now 7 months old and has been back to garage for several faults. There are still 4 faults outstanding, 2 of which have had 3 visits each to the dealer. Each time, the vehicle is returned apparently fixed but the fault still persists. I have been told that I now have a right to reject the car and request that the dealer 'buy it back'. Does anyone know consumer law sufficiently to say if this is or is not the case? Can anyone suggest how I should proceed? I have been keeping a journal of all the visits, events and conversations. Thanks in advance. J.
  15. Careful about where you park it aren't you Always best not to park near any other cars...
  16. Hi guys, This thread is breaking my heart.... Early this year, we decided to buy a new car, My list was Octy vRS, Audi A4 TDI130 and lastly a Zafira GSi in that order. Missus (she paid for the car) had Zaf GSi, vRS & would not entertain the Audi at all. A storming deal from Vx saw me buy the GSi. If you're wondering a) Why I'm here & Why I'm telling you this in a mpg thread; then all will become clear. The Zaf is now 7 months old and has reently been in the dealers for a host of niggles, none of which the dealer is able to fix (I wont bore you with the details). However, more importantly and the reason for tagging this post is that I am getting 19mpg round town and have NEVER seen more than 30.1mpg even when driving like a nun on 11 points.... I have popped over here to see what you lot are getting before I prepare to sell up and defect to Skoda. JT Oh, and if you hadn't fallen asleep by now and were wondering why my wife rated the Skoda second. It has light coloured carpets..... I'll get back in my box now, thanks for listening.
  17. Hi guys, sorry to hijack. What about Warranty and fitting of BOVs (DVs). Does this also affect the warranty? Jeff
