  1. I put this in a pm to someone (its slightly edited) but ill pop it here as its more info I tried something yesterday it came up coolant low it was my last job so i left it as it was going in the garage at home at 3pm (i only do half a day on sat) so i came to it this morning at 11am i didnt start the car as i wanted to see if the steam would cool back to water and be at some sort of a level i checked and the coolant tank was empty i released the cap to a hiss and it barly came back up 1cm in the tank i put my full medium sized buxton bottle in it which is 750ml again no water marks anywhere as far as i can see. Im beginging to think a gas/air is entering the tank when the engine starts to use coolant when hot and water is exiting , as the water is going somewhere i would say its had approx 10L of coolant/ water since ive had it for 4 months 7500 miles 4-5 full bottles and a few 200-500ml top ups, i believe the system is around 8L but i may be wrong. Also it was just below max at the start of the day
  2. I want skoda to try a fix themselves I was hoping customer services would see to that rather than just send me back to the dealer(which i dont know there plan yet), Do you think a different dealer would want to get involved on a tricky problem a different dealer is trying to fix ?
  3. The only reason i did it was so skoda themselves could try a fix as i know the dealer called skoda for advice when he wasnt sure what else it can be. so i figured they had much more experience than a dealer tech(not all but in this case) or does it not work that way? Do you think they could have just fobbed me off james? Is that often the case i do have a direct number to the person so i'm expecting further contact/action they did mention going back to the same dealer after there own tech team looks at it all. Maybe thats all the dealers doing on the phone anyhow?
  4. I feel your pain Gladnika I was called today by Skoda uk i now have a handler they have asked for a technical report from the dealer I expressed how the dealer who done the work has been great with me but were just struggling to fix it (a diff dealer sold me it) So they are going to get there own skoda tech dept. to come up with a plan to fix it, but unfortunatly I'm now tied up with work until the first week of Aug before i can allow them a third attempt on the car.
  5. Its all a bit confusing and mega frustrating it has to be related to the problem or it would surely not do it, skoda coudln't have possibly designed it to do that (not from max anyway) I had a 2009 Golf 2.0 TDI CR Sportline estate before this i never had any issues with the expansion tank i topped it up 2 times in 80,000 miles. All the other local taxis have never had a problem like this. I do appreciate everyones help i'm just trying to absorb it all in and try to get some sort of a plan whilst i wait for skoda uk to contact me.
  6. What do you think about todays issue james? How the tank went empty then when the cap turned it all went back to max? There was only 35 miles driven and 9 stops but it was sat there 40 mins or so with out the engine on so it should be cold or just warm before it went almost empty and the alarm came on that seems like excess added pressure than a normal running system, i'm far from a mechanic or a tech knowledge wise, it did it yesterday too so twice within maybe 100 miles or just over
  7. I just read your pressure explination after my post too.. i did a run come bk to loads of replys Theres no marks on the cap or steam venting
  8. Ok heres sonething from today i checked it this morning the level was at the max ive only done 35 miles 9 runs its been sat stil for about 40 mins engine off i just started it and coolant low popped up. So i looked at the botyle no sign of water maybe a smidgen at the bottom of the tank so ive undone it as im on runs i have to do and the water has come up to max. My question now is would the gasses force the water to a lower level? And then possibly out of the car? Also today has only been around town driving nothing with high load
  9. Since the last few posts a tech told me via pm on here that its normal to hiss as its a sealed system and that the combustions gasses would force the cap off and ooze out water
  10. I literaly have no idea what theyve done except put the water pump on and cap/bottle on the service dept lass got me to speak to the tech. And she said they spent 3.5 hours looking for it so that suggest some dismantling. I think the notes said checked egr cooler as i mentioned it looks internal, unless she was just humouring me as she wasnt technical. I dont even know what a charge cooler is
  11. Well I've took the advice and sent a rather long email to cusomer services,
  12. I guess its skoda uks warrenty i tried the garage there crap it seems the natural step to go above the garage straight to skoda. I think your both right
  13. Also theres no creamy resedue in the water or oil or water discolouration
  14. I did say to them should the level even out when its cold they said it shouldgo up slightly then asked about the pressure they said if the head was done for it would loose pressure not hold it?
  15. Yes it is stil pressurised it does his as you slowly turb the cap
  16. Its really tricky offski as its my taxi so when the cars away i cant work ive lost 4 days already they told me skoda wont pay loss of earnings. But i think i will contact skoda uk to just see there options i would reject the car but if that drags on i will be out of business.
  17. Thats the only time i look at it when its cold unless im working and have to sort it out. Yes it holds pressure theres no loss on pressurse when i went to skoda the 2nd time he said it holding the correct bar
  18. @paulie nope no sweet smell i asked it it could be the air con or intercooler he said no there seperate
  19. 3 lots water 1 lot antifreeze they told me. I asked him several times if it could be the head he said hes checked but it would leak from a certain part of the head and ruled it out he also said my temperature gauge would be all over the spot it holds 90 all the time . I cant remember the bit he said
  20. I too it up to max it does drop a little once started and pressurised but then it slowly gets less and less until the warning lights on. It was a local dealership in lancashire. I've had no contact with skoda uk that sounds a good idea
  21. I've been having a issue with coolant loss on the 1.6tdi 2015 occy ive had it about 2-3 months. The water slowly drops around 200-500 miles i get the check coolant error, i check under the bonnet and its either low or almost 1cm from the bottom (its always checked when cold when possible) So after a few errors i contacted skoda they booked me in for a pressure test he said it could be the water pump he fitted it but stil no joy.. i called again the techs kept saying it might be a air lock etc.and that the expansion tank will naturaly move with the pressure when the cars hot as the coolant moves to the radiator, So i gave it a few more weeks as i was moving house. I then called again they booked me in they had my car for two days they said a tech and master tech spent hours going over it with a fine tooth comb the couldnt find a leak on the hoses radiator egr cooler etc and that he thinks the expansion tank cap could be moving under high load so they replaced the cap and expansion tank. I drove it just over 200 miles and its stil come up check coolant i looked under the tank was 1cm from the bottom again so i added more water. I've called them up again hes told me hes basically out of ideas, as he said you would see the antifreeze from the leak hes assured me it cant be the head as hes checked but we are stumped where its going and why its not showing a leak on the road or hoses etc. So i basically said i'd try some k-seal would it affect my water pump bla bla he said its fine and a good idea to try it so i kind of at a guess will have to wait until a part breaks before i can fix it. Feeling very disheartened on a now 19k miles car im stumped. I drive it around 500 miles a week as its a taxi but im topping it up almost every other day a long run like say 180miles it looses around 2" of water from the expasion tank other then that im checking daily..and topping up as needed. Carrying my trusty water bottle.
  22. @gerrycan yep i agree fully i've had it say 85- 105mpg before on the screen over 4 miles onwards at 60-70mph.. but i divide the tank gallons over miles done on my trip computer it works out over 65mpg on a long run i was previously getting 52-54's on the real set up. I am aware the the box confuses the computers mpg as it alters the fuel input figures for the exact mph your doing and reducing fuel waste in the process. But it 100% works no question about it, my last car was remaped properly but this is definatly as good and removable for warrenty work
  23. I have been back to skoda after picking it up from a service i asked a different admin guy he said skoda recommends 50k miles or 5yrs to cover themself then its up to you.. so maybe thats why he said 65-85k I think i would feel a bit safer to do it around 100k, 200k would very very risky if they snap they do unreal damage to a engine a mate of mines went on his citreon berlingo taxi a few month back it cost him 3k to fix it he did about 20k more miles after then his engine died, He had constant problems.
  24. Hello I'm wondering if anyone knows the actual official intervals for the cam belt change on the mk3 octavia 1.6 tdi elegance. I was a little suprised last week when i asked at my local dealer and he said 65 ,75 ,or 85k i guess he didnt know he was on the parts and accessories desk he far from filled me with confidence in his answer. It's a little confusing as the 2015 car didnt come with a service book i guess its all on the key now the same as the new vw's? I've found a few very varying figures online some say 140k others 220k.. but as a rule of my own i dont think i would ever risk going beyond 100k, Sorry if this has already been asked ☺
  25. I have been doing alot of driving this morning in me taxi in sport mode using the tip of using 3rd and ignori g 4th that worked massively ive been hitting mid 50's all morning in 3rd. But thats with disableing stop n start aswell i noticed stop start seems to take 4-5mpg off the average reader each time its used yet with it off at the lights running as usual the most i have lost is 1-2mpg I think you were all spot on about the engine labouring at low revs too (lack of torque) ive found best econemy at 1.7 to 2.2k revs. I think the problem i waz having is the layout near my taxi rank you start up go to a round about 20ft away then your sat at the lights another 20ft away so with stop start on youve already got lots of lost average mpg. Our one way town center at less than 20 mph isnt great on mpg but i guess that the gearing medium to long trips seem nice enough though to be fair.
