  1. Hi good old Soviet here,

    I did do the hard disk up grade for Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2055 for my son as lately, and this one went fine. I changed from 40GB had drive for Western Digital 160GB scorpio 7200RPM.

    Now I come to change RAM from 256 Mb to 2x 1GB. and I have the problem here.

    I made the order with fast flashstore on e-bay for Major kit 2GB DDR2 667Mhz 5300 SODIMM CL=5

    I try this in slot 0 and slot 1 but I get the incompatibility beeps here. Fast flashstore ask me to do the BIOS upgrade, and I download .ISO image file from Fujitsu Siemens and make BIOS fron 1.0c version to recent 1.0F version, but this is not changing the problem.

    I then RTA number and return RAM to Fast Flashstore, as we do not have any more of the ideas. Then I do Crucial memories software scan and order RAM from them now, but this came to me today, and had uncompatibility beeps with it also here. I now need to do the return for these as well now.

    Then I had good fortune as I read on the web that, RAM for this machine must have only a certain type of chip on boards, and so even if spec is same as should be here, with out the correct chip it will not do the boot up.

    Does any one know of this problem here?

    Thank you

    Soviet:rotz::thumbdwn::)

    I now have problem solved,as I have part number for SODIMM which is a FPCEM165 and this is only Fujitsu Siemens RAM that will do compaibility. I did this one by google now.

  2. Mannyo,

    Sounds like you have got someone looking into the repair of the instrument cluster already.

    However for information or a further option I used BBA-Reman to repair my cluster last year (TDi GLX 2000). It seems to be a common problem on VAG cars! I found the service from BBA very efficient and it came in a lot cheaper than a new dash or even having to have one programmed for the car. The benefit being that you do not need to re-program the imobiliser.

    The webpage below will give you the contact details etc..

    good luck

    Deadly

    http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/DetailedProduct.aspx?DetailedProduct=1028

    Hi Deadly/Mannyo

    BBA Reman took money for repair/rebuild from relative of mine, and returned it 3 times to him as having been fixed here, but it was still with the same problem. They took almost £300 English pounds, and would not return monies untill he had a new instrument panel fitted at the Skoda Dealer, and had paperwork that made proof of this.

    This is the policy for them, so they say.

    He was having the bad time of removing the panel three times and sending it for to them. It was very bad that they, told him that the fix had been done here.

    I would not use these people for repair, as my relative is a honest guy always.

    Soviet:rolleyes::rotz:;)

    I have warned over these people in another thread also.

  3. Hi for every one that gave help for this problem.

    I have done the check on the BIOS, in Power management setup, and a wakeup with a name PME EVENT WAKEUP was enabled here, and so I now disabled. This seems to have made the problem good now.

    I am not sure what is the meaning for PME but it is seeming that the problem is finished, and PC is staying off always, when it should here.

    Thank you

    Regards for all

    Soviet:rolleyes::):thumbup:

    I have now done the google for PME and it is meaning Power Management Event.

  4. Took the car to my local garage this morning, and Simon scanned the car for me.

    Three faults came up, fuel temp sensor, some kind of idle problem and something related to me fiddling this morning, Faults cleared and will see which ones come back, the idle problem most likely cause is a dodgy hose and of course the fuel temp sensor.

    Took the cluster apart and checked the PCB for dry joints, but there are to many to check thoroughly and its all surface mount so difficult to look at.

    The cluster I got working again by pulling the infamous fuse 15, and the instruments now work again with a few caveats. The display blanks when key removed, and the memory is forgotten and reset to zero on next restart. The only problem I have is what else fuse 15 handles, the manual says "instrument cluster" and "automatic gearbox". This car is an auto, so I am not sure what element of the gearbox no longer has power.

    The garage has passed me the details of who they use to fix instrument clusters, so he is going to give them a bell to see if they can sort his.

    We dont have the 4 digit SKC for this dashpod, so even getting a secondhand one and doing a swap is going to be problematic, especially if the replacement doesnt come with the SKC either.

    Hi Manyo,

    My cluster is now the second hand replacement also, but the dealer will need to get SKC which is a download automatically by PC which they do not even see, these days..

    You may have missed the link here that I was giving to you in the first thread reply, but here it is again for you, as this guy is having one for sale for £60.

    I am finding that it is not easy to locate ones that are in salvage yards.

    Thank you may be also use for you http://briskoda.net/items-sale/mk1-o...luster/145146/

    This may be good for your daughters friend.

    Regards for you

  5. I found one under mine about 4 years ago, chucked it in the bin

    99% sure it was from the seat, along with some broken plastic that i think the curve ends lock into

    The only thing I did notice was that I get the odd creak from the seat during heavy cornering, and that the lever to raise/lower the seat became a bit stiffer to use.....

    Steve

    Hi sdwilliams72,

    I like your solution for this problem here, it is so funny and gave me a laugh early this day.

    It is maybe that the lady needs to loose weight to save more of the problems with the seat here. (only joke no offence)

    Soviet:thumbup::rotz::rofl::rofl:

  6. Slightly off the wall suggestion, but atx power supplies provide continuous power to the mainboard. You can start the PC with a keyboard shortcut as well when it's powered off, and I have seen a few in my time go a bit doolally if the keyboard is on the way out.

    Daft as it seems, if you check the wake on lan, and make sure the power button is ok, then try unplugging the keyboard and see if it still boots on it's own after a few minutes.

    Hi Fluffmeister,

    Yes my keyboard is a very old one now and so this is also possible maybe. Thank you so very much for the logical thinking that you are making, for my problem here.

    I will try all of these things soon, and I will be sure that the problem will be fixed.

    Regards for you

  7. Poll for instrument panel fault.

    This thread and poll is going to be the base of our petition to skoda to get these gauges replaced under warrantee.

    What we intend to do, is present skoda with our petition.

    If they fail to do anything about it, then we WILL be taking this to BBC's Watchdog.

    . If everyone could vote if the've had the problem or not.

    . Post what model octavia mk1 it is. (including engine size and trim)

    . Also post your dissatisfaction to skoda.

    This data will be used to help us get the gauge's repaired free of charge under warrantee, irrespective if the car is out of warrantee, as these cars shouldn't have this problem.

    We need video's and testimony's from skoda octavia owners too. (if possible)

    Ok here is the petition.

    -------------------------------------------

    We the undersigned.

    Petition to Skoda,

    To make an offical recall to the Skoda Octavia mark one.

    The fault is with the gauges, It can be intermittant.

    They all zero whilst driving, which is dangerous as you cant tell the

    Speed of the car, the revv's, the temperature, or the fuel level.

    The trip computer carries on working, and the mpg.

    However a temporary fix has been discovered by the users of "briskoda.net"

    to remove fuse no. 15, which zero's the digital trip gauges, but the dials

    now function, however they dont function correctly.

    The cause is believed to be due to dry joints on the regulators at back of the gauges.

    This fault makes the car unfit to drive,

    and should be replaced Free of charge as a recall irrespective of warrantee.

    It is the Octavia mark one.

    and is Irrespective of mileage or age of the car, as they should last the life of the vechile.

    Sign petition below:

    (by voting YES you have signed) - dont forget to post details of your car.

    Chris Smith - (Felicia Racer)

  8. My sisters other half has a T reg mk1 2.0GLXi auto and he has an issue with the instrument cluster, come to think of it when I was in the car bank holiday monday the car was behaved oddly a couple of time. I'll post whats been happening in order, going back to that weekend.

    1) Car seemed to loose all power when driving along, and after hesitating the problem went away and then drove normally.

    2) Stalled in slow traffic approaching a roundabout and was very difficult to restart.

    3) After leaving a junction, car continued to accellerate by itself even with no foot on pedals, had to shift to "N" to stop the car with engine revving to max RPM. After switching off and having difficulty restarting car was ok again.

    4) Currently its difficult to start both cold and warm, although it does start eventually. Speedo, Rev Counter, Fuel Guage and Temp Guage dont work. Indicator green lights and headlights on warning are however fine.

    I guess all these maybe linked in some way, although not having knowledge of early mk1s I dont know where to start looking.

    Hi Mannyo,

    I think that you having here the classic PCB failure in Mk1 which is either print is bad, or componant. Try removing the 15 number fuse to get instrument working, with reset each time. maybe print or componant for ECU is bad also, or it is the coincidence seperate issue for engine cutting out.

    I see that you are the Briskoda staff here, and so I will ask please that you sign the bad instrument panel poll for TV watchdog, for the Felicia Racer person.

    Thank you, and please use removal of fuse 15 (5 amp) to restore some function.

  9. Not the sort of thing you'd have done by accident unless you were playing in the Bios.

    If you go into your Bios and have a look through the various settings you'll probably find several "wake on...." options.

    Alternatively you might have a faulty power button.

    Hi Aspman,

    I had the faulty seagate hard drive recently, and ask friend to do fitting for it, as I did not have time with the other things, and so maybe he changed BIOS in wake on option maybe. Thank you again for the help here, and I will do the checks now, that you tell me of wake up. As timing is always the same here (5 mins) then I am thinking that the power button is not bad.

    Thank you

    Regards for you

  10. Hi good old Soviet here,

    The PC that I use here, has a fault now.

    When I log out of system as:- click- Start, click-Turn off computer, it will do the shutdown, but if I leave it plugged in to a wall socket, then after 5 minutes it will do a switch back on, in automatically.

    I think that this is something that may have changed in BIOS, and so I ask if anyone would suggest cause of any problem.

    Thank you

    Soviet:rolleyes::rotz::thumbup:

  11. Hi good old Soviet here,

    A friend of mine does the karaoke singing, but he is always getting the faulty microphone lead, that is always the rubber soft type, with screen and centre multi stranded.

    He replaced cable last summer season, and again before Christmas also. Today he brings it to me again and center conductor is having a break in 6 metre length somewhere, for tip of jack plug. These are seeming to be rubbish always.

    Is any Briskolian knowing of the good cable to use, instead of the rubber one that is always going faulty, as I will solder on to make the plugs?

    Thank you

    Soviet:rolleyes::thumbup:

  12. From what I've read on other threads... you may have turned the ignition on whilst the airbag was removed.

    You'll need someone with VAGCOM/VCDS to scan & clear the code.... 2 min job!

    HTH? :)

    Hi simbo99,

    Yes you are correct, I did do the bad thing here, and turn on ignition with airbag off car.

    I have the vag-com/vcds and will clear this one tomorrow as from another thread on this Briskoda:-

    15-airbag

    02-interagate fault

    search faults

    05-erase faults

    recheck faults to see if erase complete by redo of -02 interagate fault

    Thank you for your good help.

    Regards for you

  13. Hi,

    I have now finished my job, which was not so very difficullt to how I was thinking. The only problem now is airbag warning lamp stays lit on display, and I would like to see this one cleared. New stalk is now working so good.

    Would some one here, know what is to do, for clearing this alarm?

    Thank you

    Soviet

  14. Also make sure that whatever drive you choose is supported by the bios in the laptop. I have an old laptop which I upgraded but the full drive capacity was not recognised. I had to hunt around and hack another laptops bios before flashing onto the old laptop to get the full capacity recognised.

    Hi Mannyo,

    Thank you for this information here, as it is not what I would be thinking about. I will watch for this problem, but I am hoping that I will not have problem, with this.

    Regards for you

    Soviet:thumbup::)

  15. Read up on how to do the job first, it involves removing the air bag and steering wheel. You will need to disconnect the battery and leave it for 15 minutes before removing the air bag. The airbag contacts through a slip ring, this must not be rotated, as it could mess it up and cost you £100.

    Hi Fordfan,

    Thanks so much for the help here. You have some of best knowledge on Briskoda.

    I have airbag off now, and am waiting for Jorilly Skoda for Royal mail 1st class 3-4 working days to delivery of part.

    I was having the problem removing the air bag as I was pushing a screwdriver down instead of upwards. A Haynes manual does not tell that they are meaning the handle of the driver needs to be moved upwards towards the outside of wheel and not the blade.

    I was almost giving up with this one, but all is fine now.

    Thank you for all that are helping me here.

    Regards for you.

    Soviet:rolleyes::):thumbup:

  16. Only comment regarding putting the travelstar in would be look at the power draw because if draws more power than your old disk then the battery life will be reduced.

    Hi cheezemonkhai, it is good to speak again.

    Power is not really the issue as my son is always using the power pack mostly, but non the less I thank you for this news here.

    Regards for you

    Soviet:):thumbup:

  17. Tell me have you not thought about an external HDD:

    Toshiba 1TB External Hard Drive USB2.0 - Retail - Ebuyer

    I have one just for my Music and Images - Does a great job and really low in price now. Just a thought as people have already answered your above question.

    Hi Robshaw,

    I did think of this one, but my son needs portibility of machine always, and so I will be making a bit bigger payment for this.

    I will get caddy for the 40GB that I will remove here, and use as externaly.

    Regards for you

    Soviet:rolleyes::thumbup:

  18. Hi,

    My Octavia Mk 1 LX failed MOT testing this day. The indicator/lamps stalk has become so very floppy in the operation, and will switch to alternate direction on cornering. This was to be considered as dangerous. I am now needing to find the way to remove steering cover.

    I have now done the order with Jorilly Skoda for £24.99 + £4.00 P&P which is making £28.99 English pounds. I now have 10 days for retesting on car. Everything else is in perfect function, and so I am very unlucky.

    Soviet :rotz: sad day.

  19. Hi Dr. Zoidberg (Alex), and Aspman, and a thnk you also for Tim with info on caddy and HD.

    Thank you for the help here.

    I am now thinking about the cloning, and would like to know if anyone is knowing of the free software for doing this here.

    I am most grateful if anyone knows of this.

    Thank you

    Soviet

  20. Hi for technical people here,

    Maybe someone would know an answer for this one:-

    My son has filled 40GB HD on a Amilo Pro V2055 lattop, and so I am now of need to replace this one with something which has bigger room.

    The existable disk is SATA 2.5.

    I am seeing a Serial ATA on the Ebuyer web, which is Hitachi Travelstar 250GB 2.5 SATA 7200RPM 16MB cache site code 146933. I am having the worry that the connetion for this, or some technical thing I am missing, which will not allow this to be used here.

    I have found here that a Fujitsu MHV2200BT 200GB 4200RPM 2.5 8MB cache will do this, but I would want to use the Travelstar if it is good, to use.

    Does anyone know of websites that will give information for Sata drives for laptops compatibilty?

    Thank you

    Soviet:rolleyes::thumbup::)

  21. Well after my run in with some rather annoying malware that AVG Free 8.5 completely missed, i am starting to think i should pay for something better!

    I know eset NOD32 is supposed to be good, and people have recommended kaspersky. Does anyone have any other suggestions or good experiences?

    Hi apinner,

    I am now using free version of AVAST here. I am not having any problems as I am also having the Windows defender and the spybot for my XP widows PC.

    No problem has been with this so far since the last February.
