Cutting out when going into reverse
Johnnynapalm replied to Johnnynapalm's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Update. I read on another forum (a VW golf one ) of someone having the exact same issue as mine. (Cutting out going into reverse and other gremlins). Guy had tried loads of different things and then replaced the ignition switch just to see (which cured his problem ). So, I removed the ignition switch, took it apart and sprayed gt85 inside. Buttoned it all back up and it's running perfect again !....very pleased and the fab lives on -

Cutting out when going into reverse

So anyways update for anyone whos actually following or even remotely interested. Replaced the main battery live as per electricians diagnosis. (No change ). Load sensor wire was snapped off (bypassed the connector and soldered the wires together (no change ). Car is intermittent and sometimes still start and run fine (rare now) it starts first time everytime (but no power steering) Car will cut out when I attempt to engage reverse or use the windscreen washer. Funny thing is, if I pull on the windscreen washer for 3 seconds while turning the car over, let go the stalk and it will start and the electrics etc all good. (At least no can steal it -

It cuts out as reverse is about to be engaged ( I assume when the reverse light switch is activated) -
Cutting out when going into reverse

I just make sure I don't park anywhere that I have to reverse. Although I have gotten around this now by pulling the reverse light fuse :) -
Cutting out when going into reverse

I don't have a rear wiper anymore. I removed it about 4 years ago. I've just been out in the car tonight and it's been totally fine. Although earlier today it played up (started fine as it always does ) but the power steering wasn't working and cuts out when engaging reverse. Seems to play up when the car has warmed up somewhat, after I've done a few stops in-between places. I think that's what I'm noticing anyway. Thanks for the reply. I'll attempt to upload a video tomorrow Cheers John -

Replacing the battery cable didn't cure the problem. I'm at a loss. Anybody have any other thoughts before I get another electrician out ? Cheers John -

Update on this, Car started playing up again. will start fine. But no power steering and still cutting out when going into reverse. Also, it cuts out when i activate the screen washer. I called an auto electricioan and he diagnosed a faulty live from the battery. Will see if that sorts ot. -
Cutting out when going into reverse

If its put into reverse when the engine is running, it will cut out. Instrument cluster goes out when it cuts out and everything is reset -
Cutting out when going into reverse

Not that I can think would make such a difference. I did spray contact cleaner on all the wiring under the bonnet. I suppose that may have changed something?. Other than that nothing else. The car still won't start when it's in reverse (literally all power is cut when it's in reverse and nothing happens when the ignition is switched on ) -
Cutting out when going into reverse

So a development. Car now runs fine for some unknown reason. The only thing it won't do is start when it's in reverse. It will start in neutral or any other gear fine ( also doesn't cut now when engaging reverse). Very strange but I can live with it -

Yeah agreed, as the electrics cut out completely when the engine is off. )when reverse is engaged) -

Thanks for the reply's lads. I had the AA out last night and after a diagnostic, the guy seems to think its an injector misfiring causing the issue. Could this be be the case? When i engage reverse, all power is cut including ignition lights, and i can hear a click of a relay near to the fuse box as i engage reverse (this is also when the engine isn't running). Its intermittent but its doing it more often that not. Its in for diagnostic at my trusted garage this weekend but would appreciate any other thoughts? Is it worth replacing the reverse light switch ? could that be the issue ? Cheers all -
Hi all. As per title really. When I put the fab into reverse it cuts out. Will start in neutral but when I go into reverse it cuts out. Any ideas what's causing it ? Cheers lads John

That's duly noted 👍 My days of "slammed" cars are about 20 years in the past anyway 🤣 -

That's very enlightening thanks for that 👍 Just a slightly more purposeful stance would suffice for me 👍 -

Thanks sep that makes perfect sense. The fab to me makes a great "sleeper". very capable when required but very drivable day to day. It's the perfect blend of my old rev3 MR2 turbo and my even older 1979 Datsun sunny 👍😂 -

Thank you that's useful information. Would you say that Thier is a cut off point in terms of how much the fab is lowered, when the day to day drivability/comfort is comprised? ...say 30mm?...40mm? Cheers -

Hi Damian. Would you recommend the ST over the AP set up then ? If so, what would be your reasoning given my requirements? Cheers John -

I would like to lower a little for asthetic purposes (25mm Max). Would this compromise comfort in your experience? -

Sounds ideal to me. I've read alot on the various kits and no one really has anything bad to say about the b12 kit. I had a turbo boge set up on a MK2 golf GTi years ago and that was like it was on rails. Still comfy too. -

Well you're both selling it to me 🤣 Is it a case of avoiding any potholes or divots like the plague ?....at the moment I can mainly just fly over speed humps etc with not much thought. The harshest potholes I avoid like in any car but I don't give it much attention currently. The handling aspect is very appealing though. I can make good progress when I feel like it, although I'm certainly no boy racer anymore and the fab gets alot of mechanical sympathy.
