  1. An update on my Scala: Long Story Short: Went to the dealership, they said there wasn't an issue - but forwarded the complaint to Skoda Technical. Contacted Skoda UK, they said they wanted a second opinion before getting involved. Wrote an email to my dealership stating I wished to reject the car due to this issue. The dealership had a response from Skoda Technical. New drivers and passengers seat backs have been ordered. Will be fitted in about 2 weeks when they arrive. Got a hire car until they're fitted. Long story:
  2. UPDATE: Summary - Got a courtesy car until mine is repaired, new driver and passenger seat backs have been ordered and will be fitted in around 2 weeks when they're available. I went to the dealership I bought the car from, and explained the issue and the proof of movement. The technician took the car for a drive, and had no problem. He was a very slender guy, whereas I'm ~95kg. They said the only way they could get the seat to move was to sit in the seat and push against the steering wheel; and that due to the seat back not locking in place, the seat back will recline over time. I pointed out that that is still unacceptable and doesn't meet a specific European regulation. The dealership said they don't see an issue and if I wasn't satisfied, I should take it up with Skoda UK. I called Skoda UK Customer Services and they said they wouldn't do anything until I'd had a second opinion. I booked the car into a second dealership, they look one look at the sticker marks, and agreed it was unacceptable, but would need to book it in for three days to assess it. They couldn't do that for 2 weeks. You have the right to reject a vehicle in the first 6 months if there is an issue and you have given the retailer one opportunity to fix the issue. My 6 month window would have passed by the time the second dealership had assessed my car, so this morning I emailed the supplying dealership - stating I wish to reject the vehicle: 07:00 - Email from me to the sales manager. This included an exact excerpt from a European regulation that states the adjustment mechanisms must lock automatically. 08:45 - Email forwarded to the Dealership Principle. 09:00 - Dealership principle asked when I was available to discuss the issue. 10:00 - Discussed with Dealership Principle. He stated after my first visit, the dealership had raised the issue with Skoda Technical who had now responded to the complaint (TPI) stating some shims or spacers may be the issue, and the repair is to install a new seat back. Skoda has approved the warranty repair for a driver and passenger seat. I stated that I don't feel safe driving the vehicle as it is. Skoda UK had arranged for a hire car for me to use until my vehicle is repaired. 11:00 - Service team called to confirm the seats had been ordered. Drivers side is available, passenger side is on back order and will take between 10 and 14 days. 16:00 - Hire car delivered to the dealership and ready for me to collect. I'm impressed at how quick all of today's actions have occurred, but slightly disappointed that it required me to express my desire to reject the car to get the ball rolling, and not them contacting me once the TPI had been sent back to the dealership.
  3. I have a 20 plate Scala, and for a while now I've found I'm forever adjusting the seat back and height adjustment to get comfortable. I previously thought it was just me preferring a different position, however this morning I've found this not to be true. I set the seat to the position I liked and aligned two markers, and then sat in the seat and gently rocked back and forwards for a minute. The adjuster had rotated backwards. (I'll be trying this in the dealership with their car when I'm there too) I adjusted the seat back four times in a two hour journey, and had to raise the seat a little too. I'll be in contact with the dealership today. I'm in the fortunate position that I work in vehicle safety testing for a west midlands automotive manufacturer, so I know the seat requirements pretty well. The first aim is to have a courtesy car until the seats are fixed - which would be a new set of row 1 seats (the passenger side does the same, but not as bad). If a new set of seats does the same, I'll be aiming for Skoda to retrofit electric adjusting seats to my car; swap the vehicle for one with electric seats; or buy back my vehicle. Depending on how I get on, it will be taken up with the Motor Ombudsman if I'm not satisfied with the resolution. NB. Having a quick look in this forum it seems to be a common issue across car-lines, so I doubt a new set of seats will fix the issue.
  4. Hello All. I have a 20 plate Scala, which I collected just before lockdown in March. I've constantly been adjusting the height and back angle of the drivers seat and after a while it never seemed to be in the right place. This weekend I had to adjust the back angle four times in a single 2hr journey. This morning I set my seat to the position I like, and then gently rocked back and forwards while sat in the seat. After a minute this is how far the seat back adjuster had moved! The passenger side was similar but better (presumably because I rarely have a passenger). I am in the fortunate position that I work in the Vehicle Safety Test Lab for a West Midlands vehicle manufacturer, and seat testing is my job! I therefore know the legal requirements of seats, and I'll be taking this up with the dealership today. If I don't get anywhere then it'll be off to the ombudsman. I'll be aiming to get a courtesy car until mine is fixed, which at the minimum will be a new set of row 1 seats. If another set of seats does the same, I'll be aiming for Skoda to retrofit my vehicle with electric seats as they have different mechanisms, or to buy back my vehicle.
  5. Hi All. In the 5 minutes my car was parked up while i went inside, put some laundry in, and left again my 67 plate Citigo developed a strange fault. Whenever I have more than mild acceleration, my interior lights comes on. My suspicion is that there's a loose wire somewhere. The door light doesn't illuminate on the instrument cluster, so I don't think its a door switch. I tried reversing gently into a kerb, and that made the light come on as well, and it stayed on until I reversed backwards (bumping the car was a jolt forwards, needed to reverse to undo the jolt) I also found the interior light was staying on when I close and lock the door, but the hazards don't flash which I thought they used to? As it's still under warranty it'll be visiting the dealers, but I thought you'd all like to see this bazaar new feature. KR Rob Citigo Interior Light.mp4
  6. Old topic but still.. They're also called Phlenum Chambers. My understanding is they help when going from Wide Open Throttle to Closed Throttle. High flow = low pressure (WOT) Low flow = high pressure (CT) Without it, if the throttle is suddenly closed and the pressure builds up quick, the pressure can force the throttle body open again. The extra volume in the Phlenum Chamber helps keep the pressure change down. It's not only large displacement noisy cars that need them!
  7. I was told around 3 months for mine. I'd ordered a Jaguar XF R sport the other year and that was a 3 month wait too. With the VRS I rang up as the delivery date was approaching, and the dealership said "oh it's in the holding compound, I can get it shipped to us if you like?"...
  8. Hi all. My 16 plate VRS' CV boot appears to have failed. Its done less than 15k. 1 year and 1 month old. Three weeks after having the car the wheel bearing was replaced due to it being noisy. I don't know whether the dealership would have damaged the boot, or it's just failed. Either way there's a lot of grease around the knuckle and inside of the wheel. Any one else had one fail in a short amount of time? I'm not expecting to have to pay and have it done under warranty, is that fair? Also there's grease on the wishbone to subframe bush. Are these grease filled? Or is this from something else? Ta. Rob
  9. No, no sunroof, for me it's only the front windscreen. What issues are they with the sunroof?
  10. Morning All. I had a quick scout around and couldn't find a thread for this. I've got a new octavia, now on 5800 miles. I've been noticing a creaking noise, sounds like glass on glass. I originally put it down to small stones hitting the windscreen, but now the days are colder it's doing it while stationary too. I think it's the windscreen flexing/expanding and contracting and creaking. I have three barely visible stone chips along one side of the screen, but the noise is all over the screen. I'm coming up to the end of the 6000 mile unlimited warantee (IIRC), and I'm worried that if it spontaneously shatters I'll be left with the costs of replacing the screen and recalibrating the lights and wiper sensors and lane assist cameras. Has anyone else experienced this? and did your dealership do anything about it? Regards Rob
  11. I left my III vRS on the drive with all the windows open. Then while having a nap I heard the alarm go off as a housemate had reached in to open it to borrow some tools out the boot. So mine has an alarm. I'm going to give it a shake tomorrow morning at half 6 and see if it has a tilt monitor.
  12. I find the same in my 2.0 tdi dsg, however it doesn't really stay in first long enough to be an issue. I would assume it's a protective feature as to not damage clutches, powertrain or maintain traction. If I stick mine into sport mode and give it some it usually spins the wheels, whereas normal mode it just reduces acceleration.
  13. If it's between the two get dsg. The sat nav is good but Google maps is much better as it knows accurately what the traffic is doing and can divert you before you get to traffic, which the nav system doesn't. It also takes some strange routes sometimes
  14. My average over 2k miles is 46mpg. If I drive stupidly, 26mpg. Normal driving is around 46mpg A decent motorway stretch and careful driving I get 55mpg.
  15. Hmm I'll get it booked in and checked out then. I'll update the post when I know what's happening with it
