  1. Started looking through previous posts for this problem but gave up. I bought my Octavia Elegance TDI CR (2013) 3 yrs ago with this fault. When I turn on the engine I can hear a whirring sound, it's not very loud and isn't noticeable whilst driving, it doesn't get any louder. When the engine is turned off, the whirring sound carries on for approx 3/5 seconds then shuts off. Is it the fuel pump or something else? My local garage mentioned it might be air! My car is due an interim service at Skoda (the same price quoted as my local garage £179) I am considering having the fault finally rectified but they are saying a new fuel pump from the main dealers is in the region of £220 for the part only. I tried to identify which pump I needed from on-line so I could consider buying there but I couldn't trust myself to get the right one. Anyone got any thoughts on the matter?
