  1. A second vote for strimmer wire, its very versatile. It was the only thing strong and bendy enough to clear my rear screen washer feed after the system gunged up when two different types of screen wash were mixed.
  2. If the car was advertised and sold as having cruise control, and you bought it with the expectation that cruise control was going to make it easier for you to drive. I would reject the car and start searching again. Weather or not cruise control can or can't be retrofitted is not the point. The two main questions are why have they misrepresented the level of spec and sold you an unsuitable car and secondly why should you be expected to fund any retrofit. You require a car that suits your needs.
  3. I believe some versions are slightly different but on my 2016 Octavia I used this: VCDS coding required:- From the Main screen:- Select Control Module [Select] Select 19-CAN Gateway [Select] Check Protocol (Top Left) = UDS On right hand side off screen under Advanced Functions - Select Adaptions-10 [Select] From USD Adaption Select Channel Select drop down choice menu at top and scroll down too the following four channels, selecting each in turn and inputting the relevant data about the new battery. 4. I fitted the (version 1) 034 Motorsport Billet Aluminium MQB Dogbone Mount Insert from awesomegti.com back in March 2018. I obviously checked out the 034 site at the time and there was no mention of an upper Dogbone Mount Insert being needed. My 1.4L is unmodified, I am a low mileage user and I never push it. The billet eliminated practically all judder and I noticed no additional vibration or noise. There has been no return of tramping, the billet is not twisted and the mount is as good as the day I fitted the insert. I assume the problems experienced by others are related to greater power delivery, but there is little real information out there. gregsko
  5. The Local Council upgraded the lamp posts in my road @ the beginning of last year. What they actually did was remove the light just in front of my house, halved the number of lamp posts and spread the remaining ones further apart. So I ordered 2 of these "18W PY21W BAU15S 1156 BA15S T20 7440 35 SMD 3030 LED 1.5A Auto Reverse Backup Stop Lights Rear Turn Signal Lights No Hyper Flas" before Christmas, but have only just gotten around to installing them. They are very white and bright and ideal for reversing through the narrow gates and onto my drive at night, now that its pitch black out there (or nearly). I got them from aliexpress for about £11 inc postage, link attached , but I have since seen them on Ebay (well at least they look the same) for about £3 each. I am however happy with the ones I got. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32848923725.html PS I additionally fitted a powerful halogen flood light powered via a radio remote controlled power switch inside the house (DEWENWILS Remote Control Plug Sockets) link attached. So I carry the controller in the car and flood the actual drive as well. There are none so blind as cannot see. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07SR3KL8D/ref=pe_3187911_189395841_TE_dp_1
  6. One of the things I would ask is does it have a spare wheel and a tool kit, and if so is the spare a full sized one. Most come with either repair gunk to pump into a flat tire to get you home or a space saving reduced size wheel that is speed limited. Neither of these options in my mind is as good as a full sizes steal wheel or better still a matched alloy wheel and tools. The last is unlikely but if there is only a repair kit or a space saving wheel they may have better options lying around and may be persuaded to swap them around. GregSko
  7. Is this the right forum for MIB2 update Requests? Could Some one please send me a link for the latest firmware version for the Bolero MIB2 Device Part Number: 5Q0035842A HW: H24 SW: 0241 Many thanks in advance
  8. I initially liked the Idea of a remote controlled popper but decided it wouldn't be secure. My preferred solution was an additional bonnet release cable (Bowen) running to a lockable pull latch somewhere else as this also covers a snapped cable problem. Unfortunately I retired my ancient ARC welder last year on safety grounds, so cannot now make the modifications required. I like the idea of an additional LHD key lock, especially if it used the same key. Unfortunately (and I can't now find any link) when I looked into it I read somewhere that as it stands the Octavia central locking and alarm system supported either LHD or RHD door key locks but not both. This may not be true, (I might even of imagined it) but I decided to give it a miss. If anyone has this solution I for one would still be interested.
  9. The strange shape of the block of wood is so that it fits very snugly and will not allow the bonnet to be opened while it is in place with the door closed. The block is securely fixed and wont budge with the door closed without some form of leverage. I was going to go for some exposed tape, but the area is dark and difficult to reach and I decided in the end to go for an easily found finger hole at the top. The finger hole is shaped to guide the finger in behind the block that is excavated behind to allow excellent purchase. Anyway sufficient purchase for me to overcome the resistance of the strong Velcro. Its the best I can do to overcome the inherent design floor of not moving the RHD latch to the RHD side. Having now fitted an upgraded battery and turned off the Stop/Start system, I hope I will never use this in anger. Especially as I now top-up the battery charge when needed, but it does give peace of mind. I fully accept this won't be suitable for everyone/anyone but I thought it at least worth sharing.
  10. I have previously experienced the problem mentioned by others, whereby without power you cannot open the LH door or the Bonnet. At the risk of stating the obvious my solution is to change the handle. By changing over from a fat excessively cranked or offset handle to a slim and only marginally cranked one, it is possible to alter the handle so that you can opened the bonnet with the door closed. I thought a few RHD Octavia 3 owners might find this a useful approach so put together this simple crib. I have a MY16 MK3 OCTAVIA TS110/1.4 A7F which has the MBM OCTAVIA 3 Bonnet Release Handle = 5E2823533 with Mounting Bracket = 6R1823633. Pic 1 I purchased a LHD Bonnet Release Handle For VW Mk4 Golf Jetta Polo Lupo Bora Touran Caddy Part Number: 1J2823533CC81; 1J2823533C £5.57 From: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LHD-Left-Bonnet-Release-Handle-For-VW-Mk4-Golf-Jetta-Polo-Lupo-Bora-Touran-Caddy/183215328990?fits=Car+Make%3AVW|Model%3AGolf|Plat_Gen%3AMK+IV&hash=item2aa87c0ede:g:ef0AAOSwKGpa8Wc9:rk:1:pf:0 Pic2 Pretty simple just remove the existing handle: Small flat blade screwdriver (at a 15 degree angle at the tip to the left of centre) inserted to the right hand side top of the handle. Place screwdriver in behind locking tab and pivot screwdriver tip to the right back to 0 degree of centre, there by sliding the locking tab to the right until loose. Pull handle away from foot-well panel and off of the cable flap. With door open offer up new handle to existing cable flap and fit without locking tab. Test how far the handle needs to rotate to open bonnet. If the bonnet opens only after turning beyond the limits of the closed door, mark, trim and make good handle to fit. I used some metal putty to fill the voids exposed in the handle, just for neatness. Refit handle with locking tab. Keep old handle, as reversal is an option. PIC 3 & 4 Done. That is all you need. However I went on to fashion a hard block from scrap wood to fit tightly between the handle and door, held on with sticky backed Velcro which mimics the original safety function but is easily removed when needed. PIC 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 & Dusted.
  11. No I asked on for help on 15 November, and didn't want to follow up and harass any one who was doing us all such a favour. However It looks like this avenue has quietly died.
  12. Could Some one please also send me a link for the latest firmware version for the Bolero MIB2 Device Partnumber: 5Q0035842A HW: H24 SW: 0241 Many thanks in advance
  13. Before investigating all possible problems try the most likely and easiest to fix first. Blocked spray jet heads. Mine stopped unexpectedly last week and it is easy to worry about all the possible problems it could be. It was only after I cleaned the discoloured looking mettle heads with a very fine small needle, that I remembered they hadn’t been all that effective for some time. Exert force from behind and on the left hand side of the hinged cap covering the jets. Fine needle should go in at least 1.5cm. If not use force to achieve that depth. If there is no or little resistance then the problem lies elsewhere with the water delivery system.
  14. AFAIK Skoda superseded MirrorLink with Smartlink some time back in 2015 (you probably already have it as standard). I did try the LG Mirrorlink app a year and a half ago and it never worked. I seriously doubt that LG have done any connectivity improvement work on the LG G5 MirrorLink app since, and don’t expect them to. There are loads of posts from people with this phone or that system complaining that they don’t work or don’t work properly. That is just the way it is and you need to find something that gives you most of what you want, in whatever priority you set. I took a punt and purchased SmartLink and I use google off line maps, which works for me. I don’t know if I could also get traffic updates because I limit on line connectivity and plan my routes in advance on the home wi-fi. As I say it works for me, but may not suit your needs.
  15. Yours is a new car so I don’t understand why you are looking at MirrorLink which is old technology. I have an LG, G5 and while I know nothing about the specific apps you mention my G5 work’s flawlessly with Google Maps, Android Auto and SmartLink.
