Rear Window Wiper Repair
Well, I've finally got around to looking at this. Got the boot liner off, with only a clip or two broken, but the solder on those two pins looks fine. I went to unbolt the wiper arm to pull the motor off, but it's jammed / rusted solid - if i try any harder I'm pretty sure I'll break the motor mounts or the rear window! Left it soaking in penetrating oil but fear it may be a garage job - or I'll just live without a rear wiper.

Headlight adjustment for France?
Ah hah! Very useful, thank you.

Headlight adjustment for France?
Hi folks I'm taking my 2011 Skoda Octavia Scout to France later this year. In the past I've used those headlamp adaptor deflector stickers on UK cars, and not had problems. However I hear that more modern car lights can be adjusted to drive on the other side of the road, possibly by a dealer. Does anyone know if my Scout can do this? I can adjust the headlight beam level lower using the adjuster to the right of the steering wheel - would that do? I won't be taking it to the dealer! Thanks.

My needles have gone dark!
Be interested to hear what you find! Been fairly dry here recently so not sure it's water related. But could be... Stick one of those dehumidifier packs in the car?

My needles have gone dark!
Hi all Bit of an odd one, but the illumination on two of the needles on my dash started to flicker, and eventually they went dark and stayed dark. They're the needles for engine temp and fuel level. I presume these two are fed by one bulb / LED somewhere as the flashed and failed simultaneously? The rest of the dash is fine, and I can't believe there's a fuse just for these two needles. I imagine replacing the bulb / LED is a pig of a job involving dash removal? IN which case I'll probably just live with needles that don't glow when the lights are on! Thanks.

New battery required, compatibility check & replacement tips please
Where is the safety latch -at the bottom of the battery? I assume this holds the battery into the car? Thanks.

No start, stuttering dashboard
Thanks chaps, good to know 👍

No start, stuttering dashboard
Thank you, also good to know. My scout is fairly ancient, no stop start.

No start, stuttering dashboard
Thanks warrior, that's reassuring. 🤞 It's probably the original battery, so not that surprising - it's 12 years old! When it comes to replacing the battery, is it just a straight swap? No radio codes or similar to enter, or keys to reprogram?

No start, stuttering dashboard
Hi folks Went to start my Octavia today after not using it for a week or two and it wouldn't start. The starter solenoid clicks constantly and the dashboard lights flash on and off. The fuel gauge jerks up from quarter to half to three quarters to full but nothing seems right, and the display stutters as well. I'm currently charging the battery as it was low (showing 10.5v!) and it's cold and damp but is there anything else to look out for? I can't run a fault code scan on it because the ignition doesn't stay on long enough for the code reader to be recognised. Wonder if it could be an alarm cutting power to a solenoid? Thanks.

High level brake light
It started working intermittently again, so I didn't replace it. Just taken it to garage and the MOT chap said the 3rd brake light is now an advisory rather than a fail - which would make sense as there are two other good brake lights...

High level brake light
Thanks both, got the part number. Yes, mine is maxidot so shows a warning. It's working again now but sod's law states it will go off on Wed on the way to the MOT centre!

High level brake light
Ah hah. I've found a couple that look right for the £25 to £35 mark - that's more like it! Anyone know the part number for a 2011 Octavia Scout estate? The main ebay page says one will fit, but the details page says it doesn't!

High level brake light
I just had a quick look for lights on eBay! Will look futher afield, but I'd imagine a garage will be paying similar amounts for it, plus labour. Yes, I could probably fix it myself if I can just get it through the MOT first... Thanks.

High level brake light
Ah, that would make sense - arse. Thanks.

High level brake light
Hi folks My 3rd brake light (the high level one above the boot glass) is only working intermittently. A bit of looking on YouTube suggests I can replace the whole thing - but at a cost of £200 ish for the light unit, plus install time, and an MOT on Wednesday (timing) I'm hoping I can replace just the bulb rather than the whole unit? Fingers crossed. Thanks.

Drivers Window Failed
Worth noting that when my driver's window went (see my topic linked above!), the passenger window regulator went a month or two later. Might be worth doing both while you're there perhaps?

Wheel centre cap size?
I used a hammer on a bit of wood, not directly on the centre cap. 👍
-
Wheel centre cap size?
Yes, mine are aftermarket. Ouch! Safer not to put the centre caps in! (Though I suppose not ideal to get road dirt and salt in there). I didn't think the caps needed to come off to get a wheel off, though? I've never removed my caps when removing a wheel.

Wheel centre cap size?
Thanks for the info. Apparently the ones I have are 56mm at A and 52mm at B. Who knows what they're measuring! Anywhoo, my one has now lasted 12 miles, so we may be OK!
-
Wheel centre cap size?
Thank you. As it happens, I just tried to get it in again (with a bigger hammer) and this time it worked! Though I fear the cap was slightly cracked during the process, so we'll see if it stays in. I searched that part number, and found 56mm versions, but also 50mm versions! Argh.

Wheel centre cap size?
Hi all I drive a 2011 Skoda Octavia Scout, with 17" Proteus wheels. I need to replace one wheel centre cap, the Skoda logo'd plastic cap in the centre of the wheel. I did some Googling, decided it was 56mm, and bought a set. But they're just a bit too big to fit, I can't get them into the wheel, and nor can a garage I asked, in case I was being an idiot. I see there's also a 50mm version available, but that sounds too small. I looked at the pinned topic on identifying wheels and parts, but still couldn't figure out what I need. Can anyone confirm what size the centre caps should be for this car? Thank you.
