I thought the scooters were quite tall? A neighbour used to take his about on a little trailer - though he had an old Mercedes saloon.
Octavia has a ridiculously large boot, probably only bettered by the Superb.
Good square size and opening, slight lip with couple of inches on the standard floor height.

It hasn't done it at all this week - 3 - 9 - 3 o clock rear wipe as expected like our Leon does, I wasn't sure if it was a quirk like the way it sometimes parks the front wipers in a different position?
Perhaps if the front wipers were in intermittent it did the 3-9-10-stop-3 o clock movement or the like?
Maybe getting it washed at the weekend dislodged something that was preventing full return movement? (But then it always returned if you selected rear wipe again or left it for a few seconds, which made me wonder if it was part of the intermittent wipe?)
Thanks

Strangeness with my rear wiper.
At rest it parks at the '3 o clock' position.
However sometimes activating a rear wipe, it'll go to the 9 o clock position, then to about the 10 o clock position then stop.
After a few seconds, or reactivating the rear wiper it'll continue to 3 o clock.
Other times it'll do a full 3-9-3 wipe.
Is this normal?

I'll add myself to the update list please, thanks

Crumbs, had a friend with a mk1 Fabia VRS once, ran into a pheasant, it ended up in the lower bumper scoop. Luckily the plastic grille popped back on, and the pheasant was laid out across it - though none of us had the stomach to pluck and gut it, sadly....

I thought the Rapid hatch looked very like an Octavia, and the Toledo looked like one with an Ibiza front end.
Octavia 3 you should find for 10k, maybe with a little higher than average miles, mine wasn't far off.
The old fella had an Octavia 2 TDi, had 180k on the clock when he sold it to a taxi driver, and it is still doing the rounds. They're good cars.
Going left field, Mondeos are ridiculously cheap, the pre-Aston grille model still looks modern, comfortable and they're huge inside. The fella who runs AROnline picked one up for £700!

My Bolero seems to hate the cold, was unresponsive when I started it this morning - which was annoying as it went straight onto a Classic FM travel news. No offence to anyone but the traffic in SouthEast England might as well be the other side of the world (and I'm sure that Surrey members don't give two hoots that the Westlink and Sydenham Bypass are perpetually busy), the strange thing was that not only would the touchscreen not allow me to cancel, but the maxidot control on the wiper stalk didn't have any affect either!
Like the whole interrupt/event system in the software was on pause until it warmed up. Strange.

To be fair my Octavia, and plenty other Octavias and Rapids, bootlid vibrates like mad when going over bad roads, it isn't the last word in refinement. The old Xantia I had had a big bootlid but didn't vibrate like it.
-
Anyone had a nosey around the bootlid - have the bootstops changed in any way to try and prevent the bootlid vibration that afflicts some pre-facelift models?
-
If it is price and age that appeal, have a look at nearly new Rapids and Toledos, they're almost Octavia sized, 550 litre boot (for the 'hatchback' - the estate shape 'sportback' is slightly smaller), both are built in the same Skoda factory as the Octavia, and I've seen examples a year old come up for £9-£10k. Nearly bought one myself.

To be honest I don't play music from the phone, this is probably why I don't hear them then - I assume it needs to be on 'Media' mode?
Would be ideal if they could 'cut in' on the radio.

Is there a way of getting Android Waze or Google maps to read directions over bluetooth on a Bolero MIB1 (non-mirrorlink/non-smartlink)?

To be fair the Octavia fuel tank is surprisingly small, even compared to my old Saab 93.
Claimed 50 litres, though with expansion tank I'd say a little less, Saab was 58 litres though seemed to hold a lot closer to that full amount.

Mine has a polystyrene wheel shaped insert, a cigar lighter powered air pump and a towing hook.

I sat in a Toledo, Seats version of the Rapid, before getting the Octavia and there wasn't much difference.
The Octavia to me isn't the last word in refinement, the doors are vanlike with visible painted metal on the inside frames and the bootlid vibrates especially on bumpy roads. It is what it is, an honest workhorse, and I reckon the Rapid is too.

Got to the car after work, put my lunch bag in the side boot compartment, I've adjusted the stoppers to max to try and unsuccessfully treat the bootlid vibration issue.
So I had to slam it a bit to get it closed.
Then I went to start the car up and it says 3rd brake light warning, yet it was dark enough that I could see the high level brake light was illuminated.
Gave my colleague a lift home and got him to check when he got out, said all brake lights fine.
Restarted the car and no warnings.
Bad connection?
The Saab used to have phantom brake light warnings caused by corroded bulb holders, but for a 3rd brake light surely this wouldn't be the case? It has been very rainy recently.

I've owned Citroens and they've been great - 2 ZXs and a Xantia.
However anything newer from Citroen does seem to be overly complex, and electrics is PSA's achilles heel.
Though no brand is immune from issues (just go through some of the Skoda forums!), a lot of components these days come from the same suppliers anyway - and the 1.6 diesel engine I think is the same Ford DLD/HDi used in the Mini Cooper, Volvos, Mazdas etc.
To me they're chalk and cheese in terms of cars, a strange comparison - an Octavia is more like an old hatchback C5/Xantia, a DS5 or one of the last C5 estates might be the closest recent thing from Citroen.
From Skoda, a Yeti is probably close to a Cactus in terms of a small SUV.
Which is the better family car? Many people like small SUVs as they sit high, and easy to get child seats in and out of.
I picked the Octavia as my family car as the big fastback boot is huge and useful for getting prams, shopping etc. in and out of, as I didn't want an SUV.

Awayoffski, I'm not sure - it is a Nov 2013 built car which started life in Scotland UK.
Even in N.Ireland (without getting into politics...) it is covered by Skoda UK, if there are any recall notices.
I did put the VIN through the Skoda recall web app, however nothing was returned (despite the dealer suggesting that I need the DSG update but that their systems were down).
Does that NZ recall only affect 09-11 models?

I have a 1.6 TDi DSG Octavia with Stop Start.
If it detects that it can't Stop Start (eg. it is warming up, cooling down, DPF regen, too many aux consumers are running and it hasn't enough charge etc.) then it simply won't, you'll just stop at a regular idle (or perhaps a little higher - 1000rpm or so) and a little crossed out 'A' icon appears on the maxidot.

If you wanted a smaller car than an Octavia and were considering a Fabia, look at a Rapid?
They're like a halfway house between a Fabia and an Octavia, the hatchback looks very like the Octavia whereas the Sportback is a little like a Focus-sized Fabia.
They're a little narrower and so should be easier to park, squeeze through narrow driveways, lanes etc.

So a quick update on everything I've tried:
- Stoppers - raising and lowering stoppers left, right of tailgate and rubber end stoppers, never made any difference
- Seats up/down - no difference
- Parcel shelf - no difference
- Removing the flimsy wood folding boot floor - no difference
- Wrapping a bit of electrical tape around the bootlid 'D ring' to try and get a tighter close - no difference
- The same but this time the 'D rings' where the rear seats click into place - no difference
- Putting padding tape behind the numberplate to make sure there is absolutely no flex whatsoever - no difference
When it happens, lowering the rear window slightly actually makes it worse.
I haven't tried replacing dampers, nor have I yet bought a spare wheel (that's on the todo, I hate being left with the foam stuff). I might take the polystyrene block out but can't see that making a difference.
When the tyres are due replacing I'll get them balanced and aligned.
It is a great car but this noise is now driving me to distraction.
Someone had mentioned some vent at the side of the bootlid that may stick, a bit like a kitchen extractor fan vent, - how do I access this? When I try and search for vents or cabin airflow vents it just comes up with front/rear interior vents rather than the 'pressure release' vent.
