  1. @peter3197 👍 PM sent. @slicendice can you confirm if the space saver you bought had the following specs; 3,5JX18H2, ET25, 5/112, PR-1G9? Thanks
  2. Does anybody have a part number for the 18” space saver for the vRS at all or able to confirm if 1K0601027AP will fit? Thanks in advance.
  3. @slicendice @DEZMONDE I see you both have vRS models, is the 18” space saver an OEM part? If so do you have a part number to hand? Looking at doing the same. My goo is out of date and Skoda wanted nearly £50 for a new bottle. Needless to say, at the same price, the replacement tool kit/foam insert is a no brainier. Just need the correct space saver.
  4. Nice thread! Keep up the good work. Trying to decide between H&R’s and Eibach at the minute so I’m looking forward to hearing what you make of the Racingline springs. How do you find the new silicone hose? Been wanting one for my a while just to colour co-ordinate my engine bay to the car but had no joy finding one for the diesel so I’m glad I came across your thread. Would prefer it without the branding mind.
  5. @j1mg Funny you should mention this, I was going to post a thread in the “General Motoring Chat” after I found the rear quarter window on my wife’s Renault shattered when cleaning last week (no idea how it ended up like it). Looked on eBay and found a replacement for a similar price to what you quoted however, due to work commitments, I wasn’t going to be about to replace it so my wife looked in to getting quotes for a replacement. A well known car window company quoted her £407 and wanted the money up front! They said she could then claim it back through her insurance company. In the end she just claimed through her insurance company at a cost of £85 excess (doesn’t affect no claims). It was replaced within 2 days (it would have been quicker had they had it in stock). So my advise, go through your insurance. By the time you’ve got the parts and tools together you may as well pay the excess and get the experts to replace it with a guarantee on the workmanship. Just make sure they do a decent job cleaning up after, my wife wasn’t very happy to be cleaning glass up off the drive for the next week!
  6. I had a play on my commute the other day. If I’m in Sport and get up to speed, i.e. motorway slip road up to 70, then set the CC the DSG goes from 4th up to 6th fairly quickly. The revs match that of the Normal setting. If I don’t select CC then the revs hold quite high.
  7. The following thread should have some useful info from when I had the same query. You’ll also notice you probably do not have the Journey Summary pop up on the Maxidot at the end of your trips too. My car is an early 17 plate FL vRS.
  8. Do the box settings when you knock the drive selector to “S” differ to the box settings when selecting Sport mode through the vRS button?
  9. As per the title really, which driving mode do you tend to use? I have Normal, Sport, Eco and Custom in my vRS DSG TDI. Most of the time it’s in Normal for my long motorway commutes. I occasionally use Sport by knocking the selector to S as opposed to using the vRS button on the centre console (not sure if this results in the same settings or not). When in Normal I don’t like how the car tackles roundabouts or how it pulls away when entering a national speed limit zone. Feels too hesitant while the DSG decides what gear to use. Fine in Sport but when I’m up to speed the revs are held too high so I end up switching back to Normal again. I’ve recently tried using the paddle shifts in manual when on the B roads, just to eliminate the feelings above and to have a bit more involvement in the drive. Quite enjoyed it to be honest, may have to invest in some billet paddle shifters! I’m yet to play around with the Custom option and have never used the Eco mode so I’m curious to hear peoples opinions on those.
  10. I don’t own the 230 so can’t help on specifics of that model but it sounds like you’ve got it covered. If it’s a Skoda dealership they will be able to provide a printout of the digital service history. Failing that, if you install the My Skoda app to your phone and plug it in to the car via USB it will show there however will not provide specifics on what was carried out (there will be a ref no that Skoda can look up for the specifics). Have a check of the wheel centre caps too, these tend to corrode and aren’t cheap for what they are. Recently had mine replaced under warranty although they will no doubt corrode again. Worth while getting the dealer to replace as the car will be “new” to you and, if like mine, it’s in mint condition you don’t want it spoilt by something as small as that to resolve.
  11. @BigJakk glad there may be light at the end of the tunnel for you with this! This thread will come in handy for anyone else with this issue, thanks for keeping us updated. Must have been an awkward situation for both you and the previous owner who must be feeing a bit guilty knowing you now have an issue not long after buying. These things happen though and by the sounds of it there was no malice involved. Skoda should push this info out to their dealerships, I’m assuming this hasn’t been done in this case so I wouldn’t be quick to lay blame with the dealerships in question. It doesn’t look good when an independent has identified the TPI when 2 main dealerships couldn’t (or know what a TPI is for that matter). Having said that a TPI may only be available to the Technicians when doing diagnostics as opposed to the front of house service desk who relay the information back to the customer. This is just speculation though as I’m unaware of how the process works.
  12. Had exactly the same query, kept getting flashed at night. Car had recently been MOT’d prior to buying but got another dealer to double check them when it was in for some warranty work recently. They came back and said no problem. The LED lights are just that good and I’ve noticed how bright other cars with LED’s are. I mean I’m not complaining, they’re much better than the candles on my Mk2!
  13. Good bit of info on why brake fluid is changed; https://www.kwik-fit.com/brakes/information/why-brake-fluid-is-important Depending on how you drive the car would depend how severely you’d feel the effects I guess e.g. track driving vs long motorway runs (although you’d likely use different brake fluid for track).
  14. @DeltaOscar nice job! I haven’t removed the Skoda or Octavia badges so plan on doing the same to all of mine. I think Plasti-dip do a glossifier that you spray over the matte paint to give a gloss effect. Pretty sure it works in the same way with the overspray peeling/rubbing off although If you plan on doing that then I’d double check first.
  15. I was skeptical but that’s what I’ve been told. This wasn’t carried out in conjunction with a service as my car has been on a flexible plan from new and not due it’s 2nd service for another year. This would explain the premium as suggested by @Roottootemblowinootsoot above.
  16. Update on this. Spoke to the garage, they clarified the price for the Brake Fluid change as being £75 for cars under 3 years and £60 therefore after. With regards to the wheels they sent me the photos of the wheels before they carried out the warranty work (Skoda policy) which show the damage being there beforehand. In all honesty I’d never noticed this, mainly due me only paying attention to the corroded centres. It does look more obvious now that it has shiny new centres fitted. I was polite in my approach to the issue and offered my apology for calling their workmanship in to question as it had genuinely gone unnoticed by my until I was admiring the new ones. A couple of packets of biscuits will no doubt find their way to the workshop.
  17. Evening all, I’ve had a search but nobody seems to have an answer to an observation I’ve had in older threads. I’ve seen that some Maxidots show a journey summary however mine will not show this. Any pointers to get this to show up after a drive? Cheers.
  18. I’ve seen a couple of vRS that have alternate background colours on the menu and maxi dot screens. I can’t for the life of me find an option to change this setting from green. I have a 17 plate vRS FL with LED ambient lighting. Will this require a software update or VCDS activation? I’ve tried to update the system using my phone as a hotspot but no luck (I can’t even get Skoda Connect to work but I gather this is an Apple and EE issue). I never get the red globe on the homescreen although my phone recognises the hotspot and the car shows I have WLAN signal.
