  1. @BigJakk glad there may be light at the end of the tunnel for you with this! This thread will come in handy for anyone else with this issue, thanks for keeping us updated. Must have been an awkward situation for both you and the previous owner who must be feeing a bit guilty knowing you now have an issue not long after buying. These things happen though and by the sounds of it there was no malice involved. Skoda should push this info out to their dealerships, I’m assuming this hasn’t been done in this case so I wouldn’t be quick to lay blame with the dealerships in question. It doesn’t look good when an independent has identified the TPI when 2 main dealerships couldn’t (or know what a TPI is for that matter). Having said that a TPI may only be available to the Technicians when doing diagnostics as opposed to the front of house service desk who relay the information back to the customer. This is just speculation though as I’m unaware of how the process works.
  2. Had exactly the same query, kept getting flashed at night. Car had recently been MOT’d prior to buying but got another dealer to double check them when it was in for some warranty work recently. They came back and said no problem. The LED lights are just that good and I’ve noticed how bright other cars with LED’s are. I mean I’m not complaining, they’re much better than the candles on my Mk2!
  3. Good bit of info on why brake fluid is changed; https://www.kwik-fit.com/brakes/information/why-brake-fluid-is-important Depending on how you drive the car would depend how severely you’d feel the effects I guess e.g. track driving vs long motorway runs (although you’d likely use different brake fluid for track).
  4. @DeltaOscar nice job! I haven’t removed the Skoda or Octavia badges so plan on doing the same to all of mine. I think Plasti-dip do a glossifier that you spray over the matte paint to give a gloss effect. Pretty sure it works in the same way with the overspray peeling/rubbing off although If you plan on doing that then I’d double check first.
  5. I was skeptical but that’s what I’ve been told. This wasn’t carried out in conjunction with a service as my car has been on a flexible plan from new and not due it’s 2nd service for another year. This would explain the premium as suggested by @Roottootemblowinootsoot above.
  6. Update on this. Spoke to the garage, they clarified the price for the Brake Fluid change as being £75 for cars under 3 years and £60 therefore after. With regards to the wheels they sent me the photos of the wheels before they carried out the warranty work (Skoda policy) which show the damage being there beforehand. In all honesty I’d never noticed this, mainly due me only paying attention to the corroded centres. It does look more obvious now that it has shiny new centres fitted. I was polite in my approach to the issue and offered my apology for calling their workmanship in to question as it had genuinely gone unnoticed by my until I was admiring the new ones. A couple of packets of biscuits will no doubt find their way to the workshop.
  7. Had mine done yesterday at the 3 year period. Feel robbed at £75 after reading this! While it was in I asked them to look at the corroded wheel centre caps. They replaced them under warranty but I’m a bit miffed you can see where they prized them off on the alloy. Asked the chap why they didn’t use anything to protect the alloy and was advised to take a picture as my main issue was with corrosion. Should I raise this with Skoda UK or am I overreacting a bit? Granted I’ll probably have bigger stone chips in time but the wheels are in mint (if not, very close to) condition. Sorry to go off on a tangent from the OP!
  8. If I regularly shared the car with my wife this is how I’d set my car up; own key and driver profile. Also stops her changing all my radio stations! I wouldn’t want to create another driver profile if a passenger wanted to connect their phone as a music source however. Is there a way of avoiding my contacts downloading on to their phone in this instance as I agree with @scorpio1974 that this would be a bit inconvenient.
  9. Can’t really help with removing the contacts unless you manually go through her phone book and remove them one by one. A bit of a chore granted. Haven’t come across it before, odd to have that as a design feature. Maybe someone can confirm that if using a spare key/driver profile this would only allow the car to connect to the phone associated with that key/profile to avoid this happening again if the car is shared? Would some of these contacts be deemed “sensitive” by any chance? 😂
  10. It’s a good place to start for reference but I wouldn’t decide on an exhaust from a YouTube video. The devices used to record and playback, IMO, won’t give true likeness of the actual exhaust sound. Don’t get me wrong it won’t be far off, but you can’t beat hearing it in person and experiencing any resonance. Also, how often will you be stood behind your car filming it while it’s being revved before it drives off? That’s what most exhaust videos seem to be like 😂 Granted they sound good but but bare in mind someone is sat inside listening to that all the time.
  11. @Roottootemblowinootsoot mine has been on a variable service plan since new (by previous owner). I’ll be changing it to a fixed plan when it’s next due (12 months/13,000 miles as it currently stands) however, as said above, I’ll get it done a it earlier to fall in line with the MOT in March. I very much doubt I’ll cover 13,000 miles between now and then. @tunedude I’m the same when it comes to oil changes, always religiously had them done every 12 months or 10,000 miles. Not keen on these long life plans. I know a chap that changes the oil in his Evo every 5000 miles.
  12. @tunedude are you on a fixed or variable service plan?
  13. I ask as my oil after 7k miles (and almost 12 months since it’s last flexible service) looks fairly dark, I was expecting it to have more of an amber hue to it. Also looks a little on the high side. Took the reading after a 20 min trip out, left to cool for 5 mins and stood on a flat surface. Edit: apologies for the image, I couldn’t rotate it the correct way when uploading it.
  14. Out of interest how dark does the “flexible” or long life oil look in comparison to the oil used on a fixed schedule?
  15. Who’d have thought a thread about a washer filler cap would be so contentious and lead to fraud! @octavia5 glad you noticed and managed to avoid losing any money out of it.
  16. @hazzaardous I’d recommend finding someone local with either setup and see if they are happy to take you out for a drive. If you have any meets local that’d be a good place to start. It’s the only way to know for sure what system suits you best. Different people will have different levels of what noise they find acceptable. Consider the type of regular journey you do and who you share the car with. The novelty of a loud system wears off pretty quickly if the car is your daily, but that is just from my own experience.
  17. I’ve fitted it to my TDI. Yes you have to position it so that it doesn’t foul on anything around it once open but no complaints from me (and I have OCD). The only thing I do find annoying is the bonnet stay being in the way when I pour the washer fluid!
  18. I did the same, great little idea. No spillage now and no need to carry a funnel about either.
  19. Glad it’s not just me then! I actually think the ST-Line looks better than the ST and I agree on the interior. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t be able to go back to anything that small since owning an Octavia. I’ll probably end up with a Mk4 when my PCP runs out. Yours is coming along nicely. Pretty much done everything I’m wanting to do with mine although work on the house is taking a priority at the minute. It will be getting a ceramic coating soon though. The 19’s weren’t a deal breaker for me when looking at the vRS as I’d previously owned an Astra VXR with 19’s and you felt every bump in the road. That plus the extra £ per corner when replacing and Norfolk roads aren’t very forgiving! Having said that I love the look of them and am kind of regretting not holding out and finding one with. I think the 18’s look a bit small in the arches. Hopefully some springs will solve that. Any more plans for yours?
  20. I really like the Mk3 PFL however have never owned one. Previously owned a Mk2 FL vRS in black that had the grille surround wrapped to match. That looked pretty mean. Now own a Mk3 FL vRS in Race Blue. Wasn’t a fan of the split lights when they first came out but it’s really grown on me. Looks much more modern and aggressive. @mark 1 did you fit black mirror caps to your Mk3 FL? I’d have expected it to have had a black grille surround if it came the black pack that included the mirror caps.
  21. @SurreyJohn in the first post I stated the car was registered in June 2017. It was serviced again in June 2019. I bought it in March 2020 when it had it’s first MOT before collection for 3 reasons; 1 to pick up any issues before warranty ran out, 2 because it was free from said dealer and 3 because I didn’t want to make the long journey to that dealership in June just for an MOT. I think I will get the next service done in March 2021 on a fixed schedule to bring it inline with the MOT, annoying that I couldn’t have kept it to June but it wasn’t practical.
  22. @Roottootemblowinootsoot I believe it only covers the inspection and oil change aspect of any service. Anything else that is required will be at an additional cost. @Scot5 just taken a look at the air filter and it is very clean. Service indicator states (bare in mind this is a fixed indication and not the flexible indication the car is actually on); Inspection in 16300 mi or 21 days Oil change service in 5700 mi or 21 days
  23. @Roottootemblowinootsoot the previous owner and their partner worked for Skoda and owned the car from new. Apologies I didn’t relay that very well. Yes I did raise the point about it not being reset which they apologised for. I paid to have 2 services carried out as part of the Approved Used scheme Skoda were running. It’s not enough of an inconvenience to start trying to claims free service.
  24. I have every confidence it was serviced correctly as the previous owners worked for Skoda, one being the Master Technician. All work carried out by the dealership that sold the car originally.
