  1. Oh! I misunderstood, so as in the engine simply *stalls, therefore now understood. *Whether physically overloaded or killed/shutdown by protective smart electronics for the same reason. cheers mth
  2. Ken, What do you mean by this statment "The engine isn't stalling it is being shut down to protect it.", as in why would the engine management deliberately drop the engine revs as it comes under load? I understand the software in our 2010 DSG artifically(and by that I mean ignores the actual throttle pentiometer demands) to prevent the engine revs rising if the clutch pack is not fully engaged, but a software glitch then causes the transmission to engage neutral, despite my attempts to engage the clutch pack at low revs so as to creep while delicately manouvering. But-Why would it do this with a traditional manually operated dry clutch, as in your Yeti Greenline? cheers mth
  3. Munrorunner Re the above letter, Absolutly excellent, therefore, would you mind if I or anyone else? used this same letter in response to Skoda communications about the "23R6 EA 189 NOx emissions" service action. regards marcus
  4. I am in the process of wording a reply letter to Duncan Movassaghi, briefly itimizing our mostly negative Skoda ownership experience, both in respect of their dishonest denials re the 2010 DSG issues, and overall v poor dealership experiences(blatent lying on the part of 2 different NI Skoda franschised dealers, once re DSG, by the 1st dealer, then in month 59, of a 5 year warranty, re EGR issues with the second dealer, which took 3 visits to get issue sorted, despite intermittent warning lights and limp mode, which said dealer denied were logged within the system, despite my printout, of the logged faults, obtained by a very competent Indy, before my visit!) As in very poor, both absolutly and especially when compared to our daughters (bought new Yaris ) Toyota and sons(bought new I20) Hyaundai experiences. Both cars bought after our initial poor Skoda experience. That is not to say I would not buy another Skoda/VAG car, since I am open minded and aware that "every dog has its day", i.e. marque/brand quality varying with time and management across all brands. cheers mth
  5. BY that I take it well=carefully "weasel" worded? cheers mth Oops, I had intended to ask, is there not, or have I missed an overweening thread/topic re these emissions "fixes", or does each seperate model simply get its own thread within each individual model forum?
  6. I got my letter today, still not minded to bother with the "fix", since the car is perfectably drivable as is, why risk it? And from previous exp with Skoda and their dealers, I cannot/will not trust them an inch. mth
  7. Sketchy detail re the new DSG, but I surmise the 7 speed is now "wet", which should help. Hard to believe it is prob 20 to 25 years ago since John Deere prefected this wet oil cooled clutch pack technology for tractors, in their 6000 series. As in, even teenage/abusive/neglectful/stock farmers failed to "break" the automated clutch packs. Which was quite some achievment
  8. Have VAG changed their wet 7 speed DSG transmissions, since with over 100,000 on a 2010 1.6TDI Octavia, they are NOT without their quirks. Like ignoring incremental throttle input when manouvering on a slope, then dropping into neutral, without warning. If the right foot is kept perfectly stationary on the throttle pedal, as the DSG selects Neutral(takes a bit of practise/concentration), and the car brought to a halt with the handbrake(2010 was still a traditional handbrake) And the selector moved to N, without ever having altered ones throttle pedal foot position, the revs instantantly rise to 2000, 2250, and as much as 2500, as was demanded by the throttle pentiometer. i.e. the DSG software overode the throttle pentiometer demand, holding tickover revs or perhaps only fractionally more, presumably to protect the clutch pack from slipping and overheating. It took me a while to figure this out, but I can demonstrate it 24/7 if anyone is interested. a pure software "glitch" Very good to drive otherwise. regards marcus
  9. oh dear, did no one realize Karoq, sounds like Crock, in my youth being an old done car, an "old crock" Suppose that ud suit me though, being a bit of an old crock mesel.
  10. thanks again any and all, My line-of-though was that instead of changing cars, I might be good to the one I have, in terms of a "wee tweek" or 2, now that I am retired, and not absolutly reliant on having a working a car every day, i.e. why I was considering chipping after 100,000 miles (And anyway the Steyr Puch van is a cheap 100% dependable backup vehicle) & yes Mike, at near-nuff 60, "ah hav larned" just, enough, to figure(from various posts on this forum) that if I were "chipping", or more correctly re-mapping, it would be a Shark product. btw, when V.H. a local VW guru re-mapped the 1.9TDI in the Galaxy from the 110 to about 125/130, and some unspecified more torque, that re-mapped engine then did another 200,000 hard working miles with ZERO mechanical work, except routine servicing(and starter motors). And was very easy on diesel. mth
  11. (i) Yes I will prob leave the car unmodified. (ii) I just spent a few hundred renewing struts/shocks/droplinks and upgrading the rear springs.(the car really needed the upgraded rear springs from day 1 btw) (iii) As far as I can remember the DSG service campaign work was done(a lotta DSG history with this car) (iv)I will Def give "the Fix" a miss. (v) I was always punctilious about servicing, and general maintenance(sans washing), which is prob why I have never had a car break down or strand me roadside, despite up to 250,000 miles on. cheers mth
  12. ok, thanks guys. Interesting the quantumtunings "chip" for the 1.6TDI engine, as far as I could ascertain, offers one of their highest %age BHP/Torque increases, which actually makes me more cautious. mth
  13. The 1.6 diesel with just over 100,000 on, only toying with the notion since I hope to keep her another 6 or 7 years, I suppose since I have managed 100,000 with more "oomph" why bother now? I am also aware of the potential torque limitations of the 2010 dry DSG unit. mth
  14. Ah hardly dare stick my heid abane the parapet again, but here goes! I had to re-re-re-register, again, again, again like, since my new email address for Dieseldogg was not recognised after moderator merging of my old and new usernames. I am WELL content to continue as marcusthehat. Keep it simple. cheers mth
  15. Collected the car yesterday, I will test my/our new suspension today, car certainly sits higher/firmer at the back and no rattles, all surprising sound in below(inspected while up on the lift), though the droplinks required "gassing" off, and a couple of seized brake caliper bolts. Really need to start applying used engine oil to the undersides/suspension bits(sans CV gaiters) cheers mth
  16. Used to title myself Dieseldogg (I think), anyway I lost my password, changed email addresses etc post retirement, so simpler to start afresh. I Own a Sept 2010 Octavia 1.6TDI/DSG Hatchback, bought new, to be "run-till-done", currently at 106,000 miles, & hope to get 200,000 plus. No mods or titivation, since it is but a means of transport, but it gets properly (but only perSkoda schedule) serviced. It also gets washed once a year for the MOT. marcusthehat
  17. Ah, well, just booked her into James Wiley's, since I am busy enough being retired, & footering about with ould tractors and chainsaws and stuff, to be arsed mechanicing at the car. P.S. I got a big puddle in the spare wheel well, and you know what, not bothered about that in the slightest either. cheers mth
  18. With 106,000 miles on, and intended as a lifetime keeper. Primarily for when driving 3 up on poor local Donegal type roads, the car ,despite passing our NI MOT, is very rattly at the front (so, ok, replace the droplinks) and the towbar not infrequently bottoms out, especially if 3 point turning across the crown of the road, so I would like a slightly raised rear ride height. Not particurarily interested in go-faster, high speed handling, simply the optimium cost/benefit package, for liesurely sightseeing tours, and fast competent "A" road motoring (both the Mrs and my mother require wheelchairs if out of the car, so we drive a lot) cheers Marcusthehat aka Dieseldogg.
  19. Proper picturesque over here in NI at present.
  20. After searching re DIY CR fuel filter changing, I bit the bullet and done it. Pure simples! I simply ran some litres of diesel into a clean 5l jar when fuelling up at the pump(to top off the filter housing) Ensured engine was warm. Unscrewed cover. Changed filter. Topped up. Resecured top cover. Crossed fingers! Turned the key, with some trepidition, and hey presto, started absolutly first kick. My first service, the previous 5 years worth being "freebies" courtsey of Skoda. Marcus
  21. On the 1.6 TDI DSG First of the "too-many-birthdays" milestones recently when the nearside front wheel bearing failed, very rapidly and badly, & barely a week after passing the MOT. Expensive bugger too! Fingers crossed Marcus
  22. https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/press-releases/skoda-kodiaq-motor-show-premiere-pictures/ 2 things disturb me about this photo; (i) Appalling standards of tailoring, i.e ill fitting cheap suits. (ii) All, but every one, obeying the Corporate message, and duly (& very badly) buttoned up, which only serves to highlight the poor tailoring. Why on earth would anyone buy a car produced by such badly dressed board members.
  23. Sounds plausible, but I remain unconvinced, since I doubt this development could effect the necessary %age emissions changes required, and despite falling about laughing at some conspiracy theories I have read (esp on Benzworld), personally I would NOT trust our local highly awarded dealership, since they absolutly( & twice too) tried to convince there was nowt wrong re the known EGR issue,"our computer shows no faults Sir", despite me having the fault codes downloaded by the local Indy, in the 58th/59th month of the 5 year warrenty. Which cost over £800.00 to rectify. Ditto the whole VW cover-up re known 2010 period DSG issues. Barstewarts!
  24. Wow!, In so far as I actually understood that, it sure sounded convincing, proper jealous of such literacy skilz I am being.
  25. As a 1.6TDI driver, I am not taking my car back to Skoda, for alledgedly a 50p "air straightner" to be fitted, simply because I figure they will also do an undeclared "re-map" which can only be for the worser. A local guru with a proper diagnostic computer will keep me right from here on in. marcus PS We have owned the car from new at the same address, so easily traceable, but apart from a letter near a year ago, OK , perhaps 6 months ago, no furthur word.
