  1. Car has started popping and creaking on a hard pull away . Powerflex antilift and camber adjust bushes on the front. 1 year old drive shafts new drop links. Subframe bolts stretched or antilift kit putting too much pressure on the holding bolts? Anybody had the same issues? Been fine for a year! There's a vid hard to hear over the exhaust
  2. Towed the caravan 200 miles and was fine after 3 days of driving pretty hard. turned the car on to tow home and made a horrible tapping sound. Had to leave so pulled round to the caravan and noise went down 90% but still didn't sound right and the exhaust was putting out quite a bit of grey smoke. towed home 200 miles without issue and no smoke when it's hot but I can still hear something not quite right. Now it smokes a bit after I first turn it on and it's idled for a couple of minutes. Seems like a bit of smoke comes out of the oil cap when I remove it while running also. Any ideas? Going to do a compression test in the next couple of days when I can get a mate to come and look at the gague while I crank. My thoughts were guides and stem seals. Engines on 140k serviced every 3-5k If its the head is there any way to check its defo not the bottom end? I don't want to get the head machined and fit it with all new gaskets just to find its still doing it lol. Cheers
  3. ahh thats a shame, never the simple fix is it!
  4. had this on our golf last month and it was the left rear wheel speed sensor was giving no reading, replaced and all back to normal, you need to get vcds so you can check these things
  5. For anyone reading this in the future. When dongg the belt take the dogbone out aswell allows you to lift the engine much higher and makes removing and refitting the bracket very easy.
  6. just for any future readers the wheel speed sensor mechanical failure was actually the sensor its self not the wheel bearing on this one
  7. not about my octy but my partners mk5 golf so the same car. a few months ago the brake pedal was feeling soft so i did an emergency stop to make sure it was working. the esc and abs light came on instantly , over the next few days it was intermittent but now is on solidly from the moment the engine is started no driving required. pedal is soft and will drop when held firmly and goes hard after one pump. replaced all 4 wheel bearings as i had them already - no change ordered a used mc on ebay as my mates octy with similar mileage had the soft pedal and that sorted his - no change on completing the mc and bleeding the brakes now i get the brake warning on some times. seems to go after a restart fluid is full only code in vcds is rear right wheel speed sensor mechanical failure. logged in vcds and its getting no reading what so ever. was going to get a new speed sensor but now im thinking it may all be related to the abs module as i know the wheel speed sensor wiring terminates at the abs module. anybody got any ideas or diagnostic tips? cheers luke
  8. I just put the metc drilled and grooved 312 mm discs on 1000 miles ago much better than the drivetec ones that i had on before I warped those in less than a year. Can attest for the metc longevity obviously
  9. It's coming from under the car I've ordered a low milage gen 3 rack going to install that and the loom and send the "refurb" one back
  10. bought a refurbished rack from wps on ebay fitted and had it tracked, was silent/perfect for all of 3 days, now its making the sound in the vid on take off stopping turning at slow speed etc, went and tightened all of the subframe bolts with a 3 foot bar just in case made no difference, any ideas before i return this rack? and anybody have any recommendations for a good refurbisher? or links to cheap new ones? https://youtube.com/shorts/b5Sx0zvv9JM?feature=share cheers Luke
  11. hi mate, ive got a vcp pro cable and software on the way, i need to flash the vrs curve onto my recon rack ive just installed (gen2), are the files above what i need or do you know where i can download the correct ones? any help would be appreciated cheers luke
  12. check the master cylinder above the brake pedal if there's any fluid about its leaking
  13. Just changed my rack for a recon unit and need to flash the vrs steering curve onto it this rack feels much heavier and has less assist. So far I've established I need vcp software and cable and need to feflash it with 051 curve. Does anybody know if the files are within the software or do I need to find a download for the file? Called the dealers earlier for them to do it and they had no idea what I was on about so if you want something done right... Cheers
  14. not normal mine fires up instantly, might just need a service
  15. if it gets ice cold and doesnt stink when its turned on id probably leave it alone
