the truth about electric cars
The lobby group with biggest amount of financial clout was the fossil fuel industry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merchants_of_Doubt It would be helpful if you cite your sources. Which lobby group (or industry backing the said lobby group) are you referring to? Where are their funding sources?

the truth about electric cars
"All that"?? Which part is factually incorrect and made up by "the government"? Proven many times by multiple sources. Use this thread for that: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/529701-man-made-climate-change-the-need-for-immediate-action/ Worcestershire temperature record can be easily found. Extreme heat causing death are well established. Mentioned many time in thread the cheap running cost of EV's. Human extinction and climate change link is questionable. But I don't believe any government had publicised that. Clearly personal opinion based on personal circumstance. I'm taking the PHEV approach with home heating. Electrify most months via my new 8 kW air-air heat pump (aka air conditioning). Fall back to gas heating when it's extremely cold. Being a combi boiler, it also provides hot water. Air-water heat pump (that is eligible for BUS grant, completely replace boiler) calculated I only need a 6 kW heat pump but must have water tank installed. I'm going to wait a bit longer see if there's combi boiler replacement solution.

the truth about electric cars
It can also be argued (if one were inclined to do so, I don't usually bother) that the UK government have played the manufacturers' game extremely well. By offering a confusing grant parameters that many doesn't qualify, the government have managed to drive prices down without using tax payer's money. But on the other hand, it had stalled EV sales. Yes. Eon next drive off-peak price has gone up, 6.7p to 7.5p. https://www.eonnext.com/tariffs/next-drive Eon next drive smart has gone up by smaller amount, from 6.2p to 6.5p, still offers smart off-peak priced charging. https://www.eonnext.com/tariffs/next-drive/smart

the truth about electric cars
As for EV's and where their battery go after life in cars: Reduce - higher efficiency. Reuse - Stationary storage (video subject) Recycle - Redwood Materials are one of the companies that recycles battery.

the truth about electric cars
There's also an abundance of wind power tonight. I've kept the big battery car at a low SoC waiting for this. I'll be charging over 50 kWh tonight to help the grid. But leaving some space at the top (75% for Tesla, 70% for smaller V2H and home battery). Then use the free session to top up everything. Looks chilly tomorrow morning, perfect time to use the shiny new heat pump (air-conditioning) system to heat up the house the morning. Then when free period hits (and the afternoon sun), conservatory would also need cooling. 🤣

At last, an Electric car I can be genuinely excited about!
That M5 at 2400 kg weighs more than the i5 at 2205 kg. https://ev-database.org/uk/car/1906/BMW-i5-eDrive40-Saloon Got to remember BMW EV's apart from i3 are built on modified ICE platform. Wasting weight and packaging to carry mounting points for ICE. The old "EV are heavy" argument typically come from legacy ICE car manufacturers shoehorn in a HV battery on old ICE vehicle platform. (eg. Stellantis, BMW, Merc, VAG before MEB) When comparing weight, I prefer to use EV that were made from clean-slate EV-only platform. .....In comparison to ICE car....... so are you saying you don't need to pay for performance versions of ICE car (or aftermarket mod the cooling) to gain maximum performance? Well then, why don't you just buy a 318i instead of M3? Of course I agree small nimble light weight "hot-hatch" style EV doesn't exist. The HV battery still cannot compare to a small petrol engine in weight. Closest is perhaps Renault 5, but that's still 1500 kg, probably can't drive it like a Polo GTI around corners.

Re weight...... the latest M3 is within 5% different to Model 3 performance. https://www.parkers.co.uk/tesla/model-3/saloon-2016/performance-auto-4d/specs/ https://www.parkers.co.uk/bmw/3-series/m3-2020/m3-cs-4dr-step-auto/specs/ EV are no longer heavy when ICE cars have become bloated. The view EV are heavier is ~5 years out of date.

the truth about electric cars
But what is there to "expose", has it really been "bury" or "silence"? Talking like a tin foil hat wearer, you seem to be drawn to these kind of videos. There are many common issue with many model of car (not general EV issue), the issues are usually are well documented elsewhere on the internet, typically on specialised forum (such as this one for Skoda). For example, I've no doubt youtubers can make 20min videos talking waffles on VAG failing water pump. Title it something something EXPOSED and get thousands of views. The Ami problem is well documented as the video repeatedly mentioned that many times.

the truth about electric cars
Those who definitely can't the the grant are already dropping their prices: AutocarThese are all the electric cars being discounted to beat...The new ECG was announced last month and will yield a discount on qualifying EVs of either £1500 or £3750 Ora Cat for £21k looks like a good deal. The red and round lights probably will have good wife approval factor.

But once again, you have no clue what you are typing. Most EV's, regardless of what regen setting is selected from user perspective, will still use regen to slow down. It drives like ICE but still uses regen. Once again you demonstrated that you think you know everything, without fully understanding basic concepts. At very least an extended test drive will allow you to experience concepts in EV so that you can form an informed opinion. This is not about opinions, you don't have the knowledge but yet still choose to make up your opinions based on assumptions and 2nd hand info.

the truth about electric cars
Suspension components, yes. Alternator, no. EV use DC-DC converter, which don't have moving parts, they are standard (in every industry, every electronic devices) and have been proven to be very reliable. They should last life of vehicle without need servicing, just like the main EV battery. Dealer talking rubbish, not the first time. Got to remember they are sales people, they are just regurgitating whatever they were told without understanding of how the system works. So you are getting 3rd hand chinese whispers level of info if you are lucky. The truth for hybrids is that the batteries have been limited to have much smaller usable capacity because engineers would have a requirement that regular people will park the car for prolonged period at any time. That's because unlike BEV, users don't have easy direct control of HV battery SoC. So the car can be left at any state without worry. 2 weeks is very short time to worry about leaving any vehicle.

the truth about electric cars
Are smart phones or laptops unproven technology? Are high power motors unproven technology? EV are just those two added together. There's absolutely nothing special and nothing new about EV's.

the truth about electric cars
Said like a true EV denier. Then what does this have anything to do with truth about EV's? Exactly, all pure speculation with zero knowledge. (case in point, BMS per bank!?)
-
the truth about electric cars
Are you sure that as EV denier (even though you say otherwise, what you say is contradictory to everything you post) yourself that you are not lured to these videos by algorithms and just surviving in your own echo chamber? These were a great invention at the time. It is brighter than traditional bulbs but also uses less electricity. White LED had not been invented back them. Unlike like diesel, just because a technology had been surpassed does not make it invalid for its time period. Diesel was the wrong choice when hybrid were available. One BMS for the whole pack. Not each bank.

the truth about electric cars
What myth? What liability? The video talks about a single failure (the thumbnail story, at 10:22). The video shown at 11:50 is repair work being done, despite the voiceover saying they cannot be repaired. What model of car has never had failure cases? Begins and ends with a lot of wordy bits with no real supporting sources.

My 2023 MINI Cooper S Level 3 Electric leased from Motability which will be with me for 3 years & now a 2021 MG5 as a dog wagon.
Ah, sorry, a week! Most car finance is per month so I only multiplied by months. That's quite a lot of money for 1 year. Cheaper to just guy a second hand one outright. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-search?advertising-location=at_cars&exclude-writeoff-categories=on&homeDeliveryAdverts=include&make=MINI&maximum-mileage=40000&model=Electric%20Hatch&postcode=al2%201bx&sort=price-asc&year-from=2021&year-to=2022

?? 77.15 * 13 = £1003. May be end of the year beginning of new year is the best time to get a pre-reg EV as dealers want to get rid of ZEV mandate stock.

Car Park Fires, Transporters / Ships, any fires, any EV,s involved or not thread, were they the cause just there and so made fighting the fire harder.
Come on now, you are really stretching for that statement. First, showing diesel putting out fire simply means the fire was missing the 3rd element needed for sustaining fire (oxygen). Second, in the video it still said diesel can burn with help of other substance, in a car fire that would be other parts of vehicle. In the case for Luton airport JLR vehicle, it is probably other stuff in the engine bay. Third, when you say "diesel was not responsible for subsequent......", you have completely ignored Liverpool car park fire report. The report explicitly stating running fuel spread the fire. Forth, EV battery have previously been shown to be more difficult to be damaged (including ignite) externally than plastic fuel tanks. Finally, is there more information that had surfaced for the Luton airport fire? or do you just have a chip on your shoulder?

the truth about electric cars
How to get maximum grant, applied by manufacturer. GOV.UKHow to apply for vehicle eligibility for the Electric Car...AI summary: Can clearly see that this is the result of heavy behind the scenes lobbying that’s been at play by the car manufacturers. Many of whom (European established brands especially) are really struggling. So all this really is a manufacturer subsidy, dressed up/spun to look like it’s benefiting the consumer. The Chinese (arch competitors) have been completely cut out of the subsidy, under a tissue paper thin veil of non ‘green manufacturing’. This is the amount of power legacy car manufacturers have over our politicians. But having said that, let's see where new Nissan Leaf or Micra lands price-wise. A red one may be coming to replace our red Leaf.

the truth about electric cars
The government announcement, from the horse's mouth: GOV.UKDiscount of up to £3,750 on electric cars set to slash co...Car manufacturers can apply for the Electric Car Grant from 16 July 2025. In my opinion, it's basically handing tax payer money to manufacturers. The £37k cut-off threshold could be lower to incentivise more choice in cheaper end of the EV market, and hopefully band A requirements are really strict. It didn't work well back before 2020. When grant was cut, car list price was magically cut for similar amount. I think money is better spent on charging infrastructure and combating misinformation. Build it and they will come.

the truth about electric cars
sigh The issue isn't price of EV. Stop/start government incentives to "help" with new EV purchasing (like ~2015) will only bring uncertainty and higher depreciation, actually making EV cost more to own. It's simply stupid and counter intuitive. The issue is the social divide between those who can charge at home and those who cannot. That gives the perception that EV are expensive to own (buy and use) due to higher public charging cost and higher list price often quoted by anti-EV narratives. So the other issue is the huge amount of misinformation out there.

Potential EV virgin
The charge points should de-rate itself as it senses higher power load. So if you put all your home appliances on at same time, the charge points will lower charge rate so that it never goes over the fuse rating (set on charge point by installer).
