  1. I remember the really bad one at Tebay service in 2022. But I don’t remember seeing any reporting of queuing in recent years. Has there been any the previous Xmas and this year? EV hubs have doubled in 2024, so hopefully queuing isn’t likely https://evmagazine.com/charging-and-infrastructure/zapmap-record-growth-ev-charging-infrastructure
  2. Indeed, one CO2 molecule does not damage the climate. You are totally right. The effect of having more of it causes climate to change, which is damaging to us. If you want to be left alone and live as close as possible to the status quo, then you will need to make minor adjustments so that you have less impact on the climate.
  3. Depends on the vehicle and what SoC it has been left at. But like a phone left turned off in the drawer at storage SoC, it will last a few years before needing to be charged back up to prevent damage. If it is like Leaf architecture, directly replace ICE with battery and motor, it should last many years. There will only be very gradual self-discharge. Nissan does not have recommendation to keep car plugged in when in storage. If it’s like Tesla, where the HV battery is waken up periodically to phone home, it would drain down to 20% in a few months if left at mid SoC. Then a year or so for HV battery to self discharge, but a lot less for LV battery to get drained. This is why Tesla manual recommends keeping the car plugged in with a low charge limit set. Of course, mould and other common problems for cars left for long time outside would more likely write off vehicles.
  4. @Graham Butcher This BYD electric bus battery location picture may interest you for future reference
  5. Test drove the new Y (launch edition) today at Everything Electric show. Lovely colour. But not a fan of new DLR's. Largely same car inside, except a few excellent minor changes: front nose camera, much better damped suspension, ventilated seats and rear screen.
  6. With attitude displayed in this very thread, I'm not sure it's a matter of "a few years later"...... Same arguement can be used for individuals, would it make much difference if one only account for 0.00000001% of global emissions..... so what happens when vast majority think like this?
  7. Does the use of Betamax / VHS / DVD produce massive amount of greenhouse gas (CO2) that is causing lasting damage to the climate? Did government sign up to a legally binding agreement to lower the said greenhouse gas? Is the Paris Agreement legally binding? | World Economic Forum Without the government mandate, would the switch to decarbonised transport happen quickly enough?
  8. Not surprising to hear top brass say those things around early 2010 before the Model S. Nissan Leaf and Zoe that were only good for 80 miles were the view on EV's in 2010's if Tesla didn't exist.
  9. For hydrogen, near the end of this video, he talks about engineering challenge of the tech. Basically it requires keeping the fuel cell cool for acceptable conversion efficiency on top of all the BEV stuff. But I found the whole video interesting how existing ICE manufacturers are (over) engineering EV's. It's behind the scenes video from an ex Audi engineer who developed their first EV, the Audi E-Tron. I have many things to say on battery longevity. But I'm just repeating myself, so I'll only say both my own real life experience and statistical data say batteries and motor will outlast the car.

  11. How does it stand in court of law (excuse my lack of knowledge on that front) to make the claim that his driving does not equal to recorded odometer? Tesla will likely produce GPS logs of driving, as they did with other lawsuits such as those regarding brake pedal. Therefore, the plaintiff must be able to counter that with some hard evidence. Again, can't see how it could impact range per charge. Rated range (and MPG) has always been standardised by WLTP or EPA. Nothing can be done by manufacturer. Edit; This is what I see in TeslaMate for one drive session (from out of P to back into P) odometer reading comes from the vehicle, miles comes from GPS log of driving. The Tesla mothership must have similar in their database.
  12. Found it: Tesla Lawsuit Alleges Automaker...Tesla Lawsuit Alleges Automaker Manipulates Odometer Read...A class action alleges Tesla has manipulated odometer readings in its EVs to display greater distances than were actually driven in an effort to dodge repair obligations under mileage-capped warran... Seems fishy (for Tesla), it is certainly something I would similarly watch out for when near the 50k warranty limit. But I sure hope the plaintiff kept a driving log. But can't see how it could possibly relate to range per charge claims. (as claimed by @Warrior193 )
  13. Is there such law suit? I can't find any non social media news reporting this. Rated range (or MPG) figure in any vehicle, ICE or EV, Tesla or VW, has always been inflated due to test cycles not reflective of real world driving. For my Model Y I owned since new, 4 miles on odometer. I started using TeslaMate at around 100 miles on the odometer. It has record of every single drive, both GPS updates every second and odometer reading. I have never seen any data discrepancy. 14. I think the Renault 5 starting at just £23k is more competitively priced. Haha, small? It's all relative isn't it? For her needs, I don't consider my wife's Nissan Leaf (<18 kWh usable these days) to have a small battery. My parents had Kona 40 kWh for 2 weeks and now Megane 60 kWh, they think the 60 kWh is enormous.
  15. How far can you drive with £20 dino-juice? For £20 a month, Octopus now have Intelligent Drive pack, allowing “unlimited” (fair usage says no more than 700 kWh per month for 2 months out of 6 months rolling) charging. Most economical living: 100 miles daily commute, 5 days a week, £20 per month for energy, Zoe 40 for £7k. https://octopus.energy/smart/intelligent-drive-pack/
  16. The video essentially says "need better data" because data only include fatal crashes. (sounds like EV are less prone to catch fire in a crash if you want to say/assume/assert EV catches fire at same/higher rate as ICE cars) Here is the data source for another statistic that was often quoted on this forum. Is insurance data of all fire related claims (excluding theft) good enough? @Graham Butcher, surely you have the critical thinking skills to do the same as the youtuber and deeply analyse the covered car park file safety guidance (Issued July 2023). Put some evidence into your "sense". We don't need an views-driven entertainer to do this kind of thing.
  17. Indeed, there's quite a lot of other losses that is not "driving efficiency". For example in summer, I can see cabin overheat protection take off up to 4% a day. This is not counted in driving efficiency. My data is all energy that went into the battery, there may still be a few % of charging loss. But it is certainly more accurate than just looking at what the car records during driving. Energy at point of dispense is the true measurement if we want to get true costs. That's why I had been super pessimistic in my numbers.
  18. It's very good, compatible with both Intelligent Octopus Go and OVO charge anytime. My neighbour has it, very compact and easy to hide behind a potted plant. Only possible negative is that it doesn't use WIFI, it has built-in SIM that may need small monthly payment after some years.
  19. Excellent, £1k saved there. What charge point do they install? Can you say "scummy price tactics"? electrive.comVauxhall cuts EV prices in UK in response to tax changes...Vauxhall has announced that all of its electric cars are now priced under £40,000, following the introduction of the UK government's changes to the ExpensiveThis isn't the first time, when government cut EV grant way back around 2017, EV RRP prices magically dropped by same amount. As I keep saying, we don't need more government grants for vehicle themselves. Car manufacturer crying for government grants are only self serving so they can have higher asking price at expense of tax payer.
  20. Just echo Lucky, this is my calculations, also costing a lot less than visiting petrol stations: According to my data logger, I've charged 6930 kWh. 550 kWh of which not at home. So let's be really pessimistic and say average of 60p/kWh (I mostly use Tesla superchargers at daytime offpeak <40p/kWh), rest let's say 8p/kWh (IOG is 7p/kWh). I averaged 3.92 p/mile, 3.1 mi/kWh gross (including not driving such as sentry mode that is always on, sitting in the car parked, any consumption when in P) £0 spent on servicing so far. I DIY'd a tyre rotation front and rear. I have wipers at £25 a set ready but not fitted yet. Some washer fluids at a few £. MOT due Sep this year, I do plan to carry out an end of warranty check next spring. "Just Get A Tesla" youtuber recently done it on his with good results.

  22. Gridserve making prices variable depending on location: Pricing update on the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway | GRIDSERVE Tesla prices haven't changed, peak price still in 40-50p range, but peak time period has been increased massively to be from 8/9am to 7/8/9pm. Depend on location. Before, driving day time is easy to avoid peak prices and pay sub 40p. Now unless driving over night, pretty much guarentee paying peak pricing.
  23. What's up with Nissan? I was actually talking to my wife about her next car, even if they go out of business and stop producing the car, parts should still be available for at least 10+ years after last car rolls off production line??
  24. I suppose, for cheapest EV ownership, key is avoiding public charging if at all possible. 600 miles could have cost as little as £12 with the tariff from home. Best of all, zero messing about to re-energise the car, not even stopping at any petrol stations. Have you considered a bigger battery car for next time? One that would reduce your public charging to once a long trip?
  25. I saw those car share EV around London during early days, it was brilliant. Parked up and plugged in, always ready for the next person hiring. Reduces the need for private cars and gives people access to cars when needed. Unlike other car share scheme, I think always plugged into chargers make it both more functional and reduces cost of vehicle. Shame it went away. The adaptor is making its way to me today. Really quick delivery, 3 kg parcel 🤣 not something I'd want to carry around in my car for just-in-case. Jolt advertising board chargers also tripled in the area I frequently drive past.
