It shocked me too frankly. It would have been far easier to change the box for a complete new unit. No video.

So, quick update.....
The engineer assessed the repairs needed to exceed the value of the car. No surprises there really. He valued it much higher than offered by the 3rd party insurance company which I', pleased about. Even more pleasing was that I can buy it back at 10% salvage cost, the difference being paid direct to my bank account. Even even more pleasing is that I spent some time using different rubbing compounds to successfully remove all the collision related paint and plastic transfer and apart from small indentations on the A-pillar and rear arch the car is perfect. I'll swap the mildly damaged alloy for the spare for now. Plan is to refurb them all in time. I did have to replace the destroyed wing mirror though - £20 courtesy of ebay, in the right colour. When I have a moment I'll post some pics.

Been meaning to write an update for a while............
The dealer replaced syncros 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Other issues I had highlighted were also dealt with. My car was with the dealer for 3 weeks in total. Unfortunately the poor gear change persists so I have now commenced steps to reject the car. It's with a heavy heart as my car is brilliantly spec'd. But the gear lever/change is the connective tissue to the car.... a poor change can destroy a relationship! I am pleased to say the dealer is supportive of my rejection. As the car was financed, the dealer advised me to notify VWFS. This I did last Thursday and was told that resolution will take 6 to 8 weeks as a full investigation of the facts would need to take place! I was also told not to assume they'd agree to the rejection...even though the dealer has sided with me. I have argued, in cases such as this when there is no dispute, that the rejection process should be completed much much quicker. I just want my original deposit back so I can purchase a replacement vehicle....preferably this week as there's a used car promotion!! My next car will be DSG equipped......
I should mention that initially Skoda Customer Services were very helpful in liaising between the dealer and I. This becoming an issue for VWFS coincided with customer services backing away and I'm left unsupported. That doesn't seem right to me.

skodarog - I've tried without success to get Rod McLeod's email address. You couldn't PM it me please?
I'm trying to escalate a car rejection - Superb Estate SE L 4x4 150PS 6 speed manual. The dealer is supportive of the rejection but I'm in a VWFS process that can take 8 weeks to resolve! I'd like to let Rod know exactly how I feel about this.

I'm still awaiting formal assessment but likely Cat N equating to non structural. I'm busy gathering evidence of replacement cost to up the vale from £1400. I'm sick of the ambulance chasing companies urging me to take out a personal injury claim though! Like bloody vultures!

Excellent....I'm enjoying baiting my relatives! Got myself a great big wooden spoon....

G'day mate.....dare we mention cricket?

Welcome.... This is a great site with many knowledgeable folk! Keep on keeping on.....

Structurally she's straight and true. Dent on a pillar from her wing mirror but no deformation. I did have a cam....in the bloody glovebox! I'm minded to steal her back and return her to her former glory. Seems mad not to.....

Ahhhh...the delights of living a rural life accessible only along narrow lanes!
Day/Date/Time: Sunday 8 April @12:30.
Location: 300m from my house.
Situation: returning home after walking my pug 9 miles...he was knackered and sleeping soundly.
Spoiler: meeting a 17 year old in a Daewoo Matiz hurtling round a blind bend in a generally out of control fashion. I'm still amazed I wasn't hit head in tbh!
Result 1: her car up a telegraph pole after side swiping the entire off side of my car!
Result 2: she was 'wearing' a thick shake from a well known burger outlet and had salad trimmings in her hair following her meal ricocheting around the inside of her car!!
Result 3: looks like my car is going to be written off! I'm well and truly gutted. At least she has admitted total responsibility. Every cloud and all that.
Offered £1400. Car has FSH, is in excellent condition, with 100k on the clock. I've had recent clutch and dmf, fuel pump, injectors, fuel pump, suspension components plus other bits and bobs, including black leather recaros interior courtesy of a MK4 Golf. The car goes so well and is just how I want it...... QUESTION - Should I buy it back? I'd be interested in views.
The repair is pretty simple, no new panels needed, just a wing mirror and an alloy wheel. And the flank resprayed after prep.
I've added a pic for your delectation...

Tis indeed. I hope it'll be perfect when I get her back! I'm not very impressed by the length of time this is taking. I've involved skoda customer care for advice.
Wish I had dsg ....

Mine is still in the dealers whilst gearbox fault is rectified. 3 weeks! I'm assured the tailgate works fine though. Wish I shared their confidence.... I'll report when I get the car back.

Thanks for the update BillyJim.
I've asked for the start stop software update to be performed whilst my car is with the dealer.
The moment my tailgate plays up again....as I'm sure it will.... I'll insist on a new locking mechanism.
Judy Garland! Still laughing....

..... I hope there's the capability to fix the gearbox! Pulling gears is a tad more tricky than fitting brake pads or the odd pollen filter!

Well my car has been with the dealer since 6 March. The dealer has acknowledged the gearbox fault which is a big box ticked. The box was stripped on 7 March and nothing visual found so dealer engaged Skoda technical for advice. Today Skoda technical has advised a full strip down with particular attention on the synchros. Dealer is awaiting tools to strip gears before this work can commence. Is that normal I ask myself? I'd expect a main dealer to have the full range of tools. Or am I expecting too much.
The other issues are in hand and the service is complete. I received a great video of the technical inspection. Quite nifty that....
I have a loan car ....... with a fabulous gearbox! Reluctant to give it back!!

Car at the dealers today. The response I anticipated was proven:
"Sorry sir, we've found nothing wrong with the powered tailgate. No fault codes recorded...."
So it's working perfectly ...... ATM!! I'm sure it'll play up again soon.

Sod's Law my nan always said!

Mine has behaved impeccably today ..... Day before return visit to supplying dealer! I'm already anticipating a "Sorry sir, we couldn't identify a problem..." response. Grrrr.....
-
Mine bounces around off the tailgate seal. It's issue is one of the tailgate failing to lock in place. The struts raise and lower the tailgate very capably. What's lacking is the final lock cycle when you can here a whirring noise as the lock grabs the tailgate and sucks itself to the door seal. The final movement is maybe 5mm.
-
Mine is in for Tuesday so I'll update after ten. Mine is still a right royal PITA. I wish it had normal struts tbh. Hardly an effort lifting it eh? I had great customer service from White Dove in Cardiff when this problem first arose... NOT. It was mid December and I phoned to see if a techie to plug in a diagnostic to be told I'd have to wait till Feb for an appointment.... It didn't seem to matter that this presented a security issue. V poor and a complaint was registered.

Should have added that temperature is irrelevant in my case....

I have exactly the same problem. It's a bloody nuisance. A complete lottery whether it locks or just sits loose on the seal. Dealer failed to fix on first visit, I'm booked in for next week for 2nd attempt. I'm told it's a programming issue rather than mechanical. Good luck getting your fault rectified.
-
Afternoon all, a quick update.......
My car is booked in for its first service on 6 March and I've also listed all the faults that need to be attended to. This includes:
1. the electric tailgate which remains highly erratic, it's a complete lottery whether it successfully closes and I've seen myself open and close it on 10 consecutive times before I achieve any success. It's so bloody annoying, but not as annoying as the next gripe...............;
2. the poor gear change which in my view is getting worse. I'm currently skipping changes to 2nd completely as it feels horrific, thrashing and crashing through the gate. It feels like I'm performing a clutch-less change. The dealer 'adjusted' the cables when I attempted to get this fixed just before Christmas. If they did, that's not the issue. I think it's something more significant; and
3. some strange circular 'sucker' shapes - about 15 cm across - that appear on my front and rear screens when the car is suffering from gentle misting. I'm wondering whether these came during the original factory installation? I've tried on a number of occasions using a multitude of products to remove these but they stubbornly remain. In certain conditions it looks like I'm using some giant sat nav or car cam!!
On the whole I find the car a really impressive piece of kit....unfortunately spoilt by the terrible gear change and the temperamental tailgate. I'll give the dealer this final opportunity to fix the issues then that's it. I'll get in touch with Skoda Customer Service and take it up with them. I'll see if I can insist on a Skoda head office techie to look at the car....ie someone with a bit more experience than the very young 'mechanic' I entrusted my car to previously......
I have the car on a PCP. If I remain unhappy, I'll see if I can get out of that arrangement. I'll happily take out another Skoda...but maybe a DSG version with a working tailgate!! Has anyone been in a similar position please?
-
Well, I had a 180 mile round trip to the Skoda dealer I purchased the car from. The gear change is better, the rear interior lights are sorted..... Alas the tailgate is still malfunctioning. It worked when I tried it outside the dealers, but when I tried it again outside my house the exact same problem arose. Not happy.... If anything it's actually worse. I was told it's a programming issue, the tailgate being told when to lock in to place. The Cardiff dealer is too busy to look at the problem till 9/1 and I don't fancy a return trip to Gloucester. I'm not having the best aftercare I fear...

Welcome! Great choice, just like mine (without light tints)! Is she dropped?
