  1. It makes no difference. I have played with all possible settings to show this in another thread. It is EU law that they must dim when the Side/Headlights come on. So no matter what you do/alter they still dim. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/174186-led-drl-dim-on-side-light-position/page__view__findpost__p__2780232
  2. I really can't see why you don't buy the philips one's then. They will perform as you want without the need for any controller's etc and you will be able to fit them exactly how you want. But it's your hard earned. I just think you may be taking on more than you bargain for by getting the OEM vRS one's. What car do you have?
  3. How are you going to fit them? They have quite a curve to them and unless you have a FL vRS bumper you will have to do a fair bit of modifcation to get them to fit and not look cack.
  4. The position of where you would fit the DRL's means your not that far into the angle from centre. As i said they were on mine and worked great. There was actually less light spill to the sides than what you can see in the pictures above from the other ones i had. If you look at a set of vRS DRL's from say a 7 o clock position (taking 6 o clock as standing in line with the Skoda badge on the grille) you will see that they are no where near as bright due to the angled reflectors inside. The philips ones are the same. Without taking the bumper off again i can't say 100%. However i am fairly sure they work as you have described above in that when they get a signal from the headlight they dim. There is no external controller of that i am sure. So if there is one it is contained within the housing.
  5. Trust me they don't. I had them on mine and the light points straight forwards. I also had them on my L&K and it does the same. Although they look quite straight in terms of the shape. They have angled reflectors inside which ensures the light points forwards. I can't remember the exact spec but it was something like up to an angle of 15deg of tilt and the light will still point forwards. Remember on the MK2 Bumper your going to be mounting them in the lower outer grille which is on the inside of the foglight (i.e. towards the centre of the car) which is not that curved.
  6. Funny how they fit over mine (with a little bit of modification to the caliper that took all of 5 mins to do)
  7. Garage is talking utter b*llox!!! where are you located? If you are anywhere near Salisbury i can help as i have VCDS.
  8. Here is the Philips install Video.
  9. These were the old style ones. I can't find a pic of the newer ones.
  10. No you don't. Most of them work by running a wire to the headlight wiring connector. Which when you switch the headlights on dims the DRL.
  11. As I said expensive but very good. They have rocketed in price though. I paid £118 but it was nearly 2 yrs ago. £180 is a long way off a £18k+ vRS. I think mine and Lee's cars show they can look good if fitted properly but ETTO
  12. I had these on my Pre-FL vRS as you can see in the pic. I also had a set on my Pre-FL L&K. I have an FL vRS now which has the factory fit DRL. The Phillips ones will dim when the headlights come on (assuming you install them as per the instructions. The Phillips ones also have a certain field of view to accommodate curved bumpers. I can't remember what it is off the top of my head but an Octavia bumper is fine. There is a demo video for the install on facetube, I'll dig it out later and post it up.
  13. To remove TFSi covers the correct method is stand at the front of the car, looking at the engine start from the top right (nearest passenger) and work anti-clockwise so: Top Right Top Left (remember to disconnect MAF and clips to turbo) Bottom Left Bottom Right A drop of oil on each bung afterwards will aid removal in future.
  14. Jonno - I took mine out when I put my ITG filter in. I did logs before and after on the Air Mass and there was no difference (or I should say negligible as no two runs are ever the same) so I wouldn't worry about it. My car has been like that for about 5k miles now with no issue. With the OEM filter the depth of the filter holds that in place. If you have K&N/ITG/Piper etc it rattles about which is why I removed mine. Either way it won't cause any issues.
  15. If anyone is going to do it themselves i highly recommend these. DRL CLICKY I know they are expensive but i replaced the ones in the tutorial above with these and they are very very simple to install (took me about an hour) and work as if factory installed (i.e dim when headlights come on). The quality far exceeds that of the cheaper ones (that's not to say the cheaper aren't decent quality).
  16. I think i was the first one (to post anyway) who did it with LED DRL's. I know one person did it with CCFL tubing but can't think of the name. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/167281-blue-bullet-drl-version-2/page__hl__blue%20bullet%20drl
  17. You can do it yourself with 3M vinyl. I did mine on my last vRS (Grille & Foglight Surrounds) myself using 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fibre Vinyl. You can find it easy enough on eGay just search for 3M Di-Noc.
  18. The maps are not brand specific. All the POI for each manufacturer etc is on the one Disc. When the disc is loaded the firmware instructs the disc which POI to install. The only one's that are different are the dealerships. The rest are generic.
  19. You have to specify the MDI. It is then located in the glove box. I spec'd it on my 2011 vRS. IIRC it was about £150 as an option.
  20. I'm pretty certain that the vRS with DSG get's paddles as standard.
  21. You mean GB right?
  22. As it's a new car then it will suppport upto 32gb SDHC. So the 16gb will be fine.
