I know from my car the 12v socket in the boot is live all the time. I suspect the one in the front is too. Easy to check.

If they are always live then the camera is always drawing power.

The 12v sockets stay live all the time??  Surely they should turn shortly (within a few minutes) of ignition being turned off?

  2. Sticky pads that come off without leaving any residue usually need an hour "stuck" before bearing any load, so first suggestion would be to stick up only the camera bracket (if camera can be removed from bracket?) then leave for a couple of hours before then attaching camera.  Other suggestion would be to use a more sturdy pad that isn't easily removed, such as a replacement sticky pad for a central rear view mirror perhaps?

  3. Might be the same thing, might not...  My old 3-series x-drive used to slip wheels when our street was frosty and on full lock (not on winter boots) whilst doing a three point turn in the road.  Just put it down to a quirk of the situation, clearly the x-drive system was doing it's job as it would only give me momentary slips and was taking power away from the wheel.  Never had the issue when road wasn't "slippy".

It’s the same on most European cars with automatic tailgates.  I know you can programme it to also close on BMWs - though a Dealer will not do it for “Safety Reasons”.  Can VCDS change the behaviour of the switch?

On my 3-series the boot release button inside car was tucked away under dash so couldn't be pushed accidentally.  The key also allowed shutting if you push and hold the boot release button and held it till boot was closed.  Reports on bimmer forum I was on that people were releasing boot by sitting on the key whilst driving, so bought a little case to put it in so didn't happen to me.  Really don't understand why Skoda can't have the same functionality.  If closing boot from key fob and something gets in way all you need to do is let go of the button and boot stops closing...

Downloaded  and installed into system on the car...........NO different from before. It still tells me my house number does not exist, just like before.

Assume you know how to get your your house when you are close?  I just set "home" on satnav to be centre of town where I live.  Setting it to be your actual address is a really bad idea, as should anyone ever steal your car it's basically an advert saying your house is probably empty and they now have a really easy way to get there!

  6. As I put deposit down very close to your date figured this is worth sharing - for my L&K 220 TSI deposit paid on 24th September, been told build week 13th November (was unconfirmed a couple of weeks ago, followed up today) and ETA of late December by my dealer.  Petrol blue, plus added sunroof, towbar, reversing camera and a few other extras.

Yep it’s new I’m after. 300 is ok to upgrade. Mad it’s not standard!

Any suggestions what dealers are good for a haggle? :D

I went through carwow and saved £6k off list price on a L&K.  Big variations in the offers received though - some dealers were £2k more expensive than the one I went with.  Plus went back to local dealer (who isn't on carwow) with my best price and they couldn't get close...

  8. Recently had my 3-series picked up and inspected by BCA...

I had some rear damage where someone hit me (couple of minor indentations from number plate of their car and three or four minor chips where paint had gone down to primer) but got this fixed prior to inspection, stone chips on bonnet touched up with left over paint from rear fix, and a relatively bad scuff on my (diamond cut) 19" alloys that I didn't want to attempt to fix.  Also had a failed Xenon (started off being pink, then flickering but by time of collection it didn't turn on and after a few seconds would put error message on dash), the A/C wasn't controlling quite right and the night before I reset the infotainment only for it to come up with a oil service due in 150 miles (pretty sure it wasn't due before reset).  Finally the front tyres had come up as a warning on the MOT as tread was a little worn on the outside edge.

On arrival the BCA chap spotted alloy in my initial walk around with him and said it might come up as a charge.  I offered him a cup of tea or coffee to help it not be over the limit and he laughed, politely declined and so i left him to it.  He spent 30 mins walking around the car, taking pics and videos.  Finally got a knock on the door, he says only one thing came up which was the wheel as he suspected.  Goes onto his touchpad to show me the charge........ £51.  Couldn't believe it!  Finally a reasonable charge for loss of value for the car, rather than cost to repair when we all know they won't do that for auction.  Was amazed nothing else was called as an issue.

Asked what I needed to do about the charge, he said BMW would be in touch but don't chase them to pay as they might write it off..... Two weeks later and I've heard nothing so will be keeping my fingers crossed!!

In summary - I wouldn't rush to fix all those things you know about :)   I wonder if I could have left the rear damage on mine and been charged less than the £300 I paid to fix it!

  9. Interesting read - not surprised to find out that manufacturer published numbers don't meet real world but some of those are way off!!  They talked about new diesels in real world performance but would have been interested to read about new petrol vs real world - didn't really bottom out the buy new petrol or diesel for me...

I have the S8+ and it has been charging fine since i owned the car. One thing i did notice is i had a magnet on the back of the phone as i had it for the windscreen suction cup when i had it on there it would not wirelessly charge the phone but as soon as i removed that i had no problems at all. Hope this helps in some way. :)

Wireless charging is done via induction, which is using an electromagnetic field to transfer energy so yeah I imagine a magnet would interfere with that :)

Just checked the configurator and you can have the temporary spare (space saver) with the variable floor, no problem.

There is no option for a full sized wheel.

I don't know how you are getting that - checked SE Estate and L&K Estate and if I select variable boot floor then space saver wheel is greyed out only full size available.  Equally if I select space saver wheel then variable boot floor is greyed out.  Both are there, right next to each other.

I don't really mind which I get as neither are suitable for doing any great distance on, so long as I can "vary" the boot floor if required.

    Before any selection made:

    After selecting variable boot floor:

  12. Messing around with the config on Skoda website for mine I put in variable boot floor and then had to select spare wheel (PJB) - but when the order confirmation came through to sign from dealer I had variable boot floor with space saver (PJA)...  Queried with them and his response was "we only have one option for spare wheel in our system" so who knows what I will have when the car turns up!!

  13. I placed order for mine Friday  22nd September, and happened to check in with dealer earlier today and was told a provisional build date 6 weeks away so if that is confirmed then expected handover "close to the start of December" but I don't know if he means end of Nov or going into December.  Hopefully build date doesn't slip as I'm excited to get the car.  If it does stay this way then it is quicker than they expected.  I'm wondering what could stop the date being confirmed, as any material shortages or factory hold ups could still happen after a date in confirmed all the confirmation could really be is the acknowledgement you're "in line" for the car to go through the factory?

  14. Mine beeps when it is triggered into "emergency mode" which means it is saving and protecting a clip and used to trigger all the time coming off of roundabouts - it's the sudden change in G-force from left to right that trips the sensor and it thinks you're having an accident :)  I turned my sensitivity down from high to medium and seems to fix for most situations except from when I'm driving really hard...   Mine only has 15 "protected" clips as well so it was forever filling up and had to keep deleting clips of me driving too fast in case I actually needed to save something!

Hi Folks I ordered the 190bhp sportsline diesel hatch in dragon green from the main skoda dealership Henrys in Glasgow today.......await build slot next week went for Sunroof and the electric tailgate as extras - have to say spent months mulling over colour and luckily had 2 test drives of the estate in dragon green and 1 in the hatch....I agree some online pics of the colour look average whilst others look great......in the flesh though it looks great and best way to evaluate and suits the dark sky's of Glasgow !

I ordered L&K estate on the Friday 22nd (dealer said there is always a rush of orders that go into factory on a Monday so wanted to get me in before the weekend...  not sure how much sales patter that is!) and he said it would he expected about 14 weeks so would be very close to end of year if not January...  Will be interested to see how our manufacturing dates compare!

  16. I'm not sure how Apple do their QA testing on major releases, but after the issues over last few years reported on places like macrumors and theregister I always avoid upgrading to first major release...  Both iOS9 and iOS10 broke some major features which caused a lot of upset.  This time iOS 11 breaks Outlook / Exchange integration... I mean if they miss something major like that who knows what else is missed during testing...  Appreciate it doesn't help you in this case but I now always wait for XX.1 release when they fix everything they broke :)

Very nice, I always wondered if sites like carwow are as good as they claim but you seem to have got a good discount.  Is it a 220 or 280?  Both have had great reviews from owners on here as you’ve probably seen.

Sadly the 220... Couldn't justify the extra £££ for the 280 plus the test drive I had was 220 and it had plenty of punch. Although my beemer is xdrive so I will miss the 4x4!

Was also skeptical of carwow but as you said I feel like I've got some good savings. After test drive the local dealer offered me 5% straight out the gate as it was the max he could offer and didn't want to lose a customer, so I suspected there was more to be had. However after going back with carwow numbers their best offer was still nearly £2k more so it really does seem down to finding a dealer with extra incentives!

Reviews on here have been great, also looking for tips and also the faults... Nothing worse than finding a killer annoying point about a car after purchase or missing out on an option to spec.  Right now I'm confident about all my choices ☺️

  18. June 2014 F31 - 320d tourer Msport with Msport plus package. Love my car but need something with a bigger boot due to little one on the way and already have a dog... Test drove a 520d tourer for a day and had the 3 day Superb test drive. 5 series was a lovely motor to drive but with lesser spec it's pushing £20k more than the Superb... Bit of a no brainer to be honest!  Used carwow and managed to get £6k off list... Hoping car arrives before Xmas but looking like Jan18 more likely.
