  1. Yep, awesome if you are stuck in the 50s.

We are living in 2015, with cars having four or more times the power of the old 1.1 Escort.

    Also weight has gone up.

Tyre technologie is different. Means, we have much more high speed tyres and they dont cope with cold weather.

At least not as good as the old 155/70 SR 13 wheels we used to drive.

Lot of threads about big brakes, how do you think a brake can put the negative power down without grip?

I am driving more than 35 years now. Doing an average of 35-50tkm a year. I am glad if my car can cope with the conditions I have to drive in.

Means: I am driving Quattro AND winter tyres. Yep, you may call me pussy! (if I am already safe at home and you are still trying to get up a slope).

You will need some Fakra cables to connect the antenna to the headunit.

Just look for the black Fakra connectors.

    Blue one for navigation.

    Red one for phone.

    White one for FM

    Black one for DAB

  3. Always good to have done different setups, knowing what the car does when altering things. Also different weather conditions (although real hot will become difficult), especially half dry and full wet.

Playing with the tyres will get another couple of tenths or even second. Especially knowing how to treat them for a fast qualifying lap.

We used to warm up the new slicks for just one or two laps and then stow them away for the next day. That gave best performance directly after warming up the tyres for the fastes qualifying lap.

And warming up the tyres will give you different reactions too. Fast brisk warming up will ruin them faster than easily getting them at the right temperature.

Following your steps closely, I like the idea of going racing!

Did the same with my son in karting and now in his scooterracing. A lot of training laps to get fast and after that trying to still be fast under racing conditions. Means, stay fast in a battle with others.

  4. That is the same what I read about the 888s in Germany too.

Especially heavier (and more powerful) cars dont suit the 888s well.

The more powerful cars do run well on the michelins or the newer pirellis. Dont know what price they have though!

  5. It should be minus 30mm to an original (non VRS) Octavia. So the VRS will be approx 15mm lower than original.

I never drove this setup, I did have a H&R cup setup. This should have been a little harder than the Eibachs used in the mentioned B12 kit.

The immediate difference that one feels is the rebound in the dampers, this makes the car much beter to drive despite the harder springs.

Especially short bumps dont make the car crash that hard anymore, because the rebound is dampened too. (the original dampers hardly have rebound, if at all).

I found the ride firm but still very or even more comfortable. Better than with the original setup.

But it is already a long time ago, that I had my pre FL VRS.
