  1. I was hoping the first 3 wouldn't do much and expected an aftermarket head unit to add a little. It is possible the first 3 have done nothing and the £103 is all head unit based. I have asked them via email to break it down. What is "self insure"? I mean if it's not via my insurers is it that I take the financial hit on the car being broken into and cover the costs myself? I just don't tell them it has been added and if ever stolen I don't make a claim for example?
  2. Hi everyone, I am looking at making a few small cosmetic changes to the car. - Alloys sprayed from factory silver to black - Spoiler vinyl wrapped to black - Wing mirrors vinyl wrapped to black - Change the bolero unit to a Kenwood (approx £300 value) I spoke to the insurers and they have said this would add £103 to the insurance annually. Does this seem fair? They couldn't say what mod would cost individually as it was a quote based on them all. Regards.
  3. Ok, I understand. Thank you for all the advice. It's good to know before I try to get them fitted
  4. To be honest I am not sure, this is the first time I have used ECP or CP4L. It does say "There is more than one choice of part for your vehicle. Please select the correct 'Brake Pads' by checking the 'Fitment Detail' tab." and of the two types it is my mistake I picked the wrong ones. Not a huge difference between them but enough I guess to be a wrong fit and I do not want to get this wrong Correct ones as asvised... Ones I ordered... I will return the wrong ones to CP4L and pick the correct ones up from ECP, works out roughly the same with the discount code I can use, thanks so much
  5. OK I appreciate that, other head units would be fine. Some look even better on the displays than the kenwood but the other ones (chinese made) I have heard about potential issues like everything being great except one feature. Everything could work great but the DAB could be poor, or all is good but the bluetooth is poor etc so that's why I was really asking about these ones too. I am not ruling them out but the last thing I want is to have it fitted and then have to return it etc!
  6. Thank you for the replies! Yes I have the maxidot instrument cluster. Really the maxidot only gets used for range left in petrol/ KMH per hour (which i want changing to MPH) and average fuel consumption. Nothing from the head unit currently carries over and I can live without that. I did look at that Kenwood, I would get if for about £317 with Halfords discount so don't mind that price. With the Kenwood what additional bits would I need? I am going to pay for fitting at a local fitting business but which fascia and additional wired/leads would I need please? I will look at those models and @jjc I will also take a look at that site, although the Kenwood has caught my eye a great deal!
  7. Hi, sorry yes Waze connects via android auto. The car is a 2010 model and I will add that to my profile now
  8. I really appreciate the reply. Looks like everything except the rear pads I ordered correctly. I ordered these... https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Skoda_Octavia_2.0_2010/p/car-parts/brake-friction/car-brakes/brake-pads/?10144117A&1&04cd417ece7175201b09f5ec40084cf693b2c621&000036 I guess I can return these to carparts4less and reorder the ones you have linked
  9. I am changing my discs and pads soon, I already ordered the parts with advice from carparts4less but looking again there are a few different options for my 2010 MK2 VRS octavia petrol. I am not too sure how to read the PR codes fully etc so will add all relevant info here. I reckon I have messed the order up! On the website when putting my registration in these are the options... The front discs are all 312mm diameter and the rear there is a choice of 272mm or 282mm... The pads on the site have the option of PR number 1LL or 1ZP for the front and 1KP and 1KS/1KT for the rear... Do i require 282mm rear discs or 272mm? Also which pads please for front and rear? I ordered 312mm front discs and 272mm rear discs and PR 1LL pads for the front and PR 1KP pads for the rear. I feel I may have got the rear discs and pads wrong. I appreciate any help on this learning curve!
  10. Hi everyone, I recently picked up a 2010 Octavia VRS. It's head unit is the basic touch screen bolero. I am looking to upgrade this and am looking at something aftermarket. Requirements - Double Din Bluetooth phone enabled Steering wheel controls DAB radio SD Card or USB for music usage Song name and artist currently playing Android connectivity Able to connect to Waze navigation on my phone I looked at the android stuff on ebay and they look great but I have heard they can have faults and are difficult as one thing on it tends to be inferior in usage or reliability. I don't mind an alpine, Kenwood or Pioneer etc and my budget is around £300 but I get 25% off Halfords so something in the £400 mark if from there. Cheers
  11. Interested to know also, I am interested but have heard they can cause issues behind the area they are stuck to, possibly dirt and water sticking and causing corrosion?
  12. I am sure I will have multiple other questions at some point whilst I get this car to where I want it
  13. Hmmmm, I am being stupid. I think I have been measuring outside to outside rather than the size of the actual gap. Rookie mistake, apologies, this is the first used car I have owned as I have moved over from motability. That would make sense to why I cannot find a 21mm set! I really appreciate all the help, I can order these now
  14. Hi, thanks for that, they are 17mm in diameter though and I need 21mm. I have been searching but I cannot find 21mm with the locking nut option, Just 20 x 21mm standard, I need the 4 locking nut caps too for 21mm. Hope that makes sense, appreciate the advice so far
  15. Just phoned Skoda, they will phone me back tomorrow as sales team have gone home. Looked at ebay and amazon, those ones you linked would be perfect but do not seem to have the 4 wider fit ones for the locking nuts, this is where I am struggling to find a set. Cheers
  16. Hi everyone, the alloys on my 2010 VRS automatic are trashed. Like that when I bought the car. They are the factory standard silver ones, I think they are called "Neptune" and are 18", I am having them refurbed and colour changed to black. However the wheel nuts and locking nuts are silver. I have looked at a set of wheel nut caps in black but cannot find for sure ones that are correct. Need them to be black, the correct fit and allow for the locking nut on each wheel (may need a different size for that nut?!) Measuring the cap it seems to be 21mm which is fine but I cannot find a set that has 16 normal and 4 locking nut caps. Appreciate the advice to a bit of a beginner to all this!, any links or direction to where I can get some would be greatly appreciated!
  17. Hi, appreciate the reply. Unfortunately I have no chance of ever being anywhere near Newcastle! If anybody is local ish to Coventry, West Midlands please give me a message and I will sort something out with you
  18. Hello everyone. First post, bought a Skoda Octavia VRS MK2 today. Absolutely love it. One small issue and I gather this has been discussed before but I am not sure where to look... I would like the maxidot/computer to show MPG and not Kmh. I have gone through all the settings and cannot see a change. I think I read somewhere you can actually get the MPH to show as a big display in the center of the maxidot, even if I can just replace the current Kmh I would be happy enough but the big display would be amazing! I have also read it may be able to be done using some software but I do not know anybody who would have the software local to Coventry, West Midlands. I will probably have many questions regarding other things but this is the most important one for me so far. Thanks for any replies
