  1. If you want a proper 4x4 buy a jimny, if you want a mondeo in a frock, buy an evoque.
  2. TBH when i ditched my 2.0tdi PD A3 at 140k it was just about run in. If it wasn't for hitting two deer within a day of each other. I'd still be driving the car now
  3. Thanks for all your replies. I guess it's like I thought, diesel may become harder to find in the future but I think we'll wait for maybe 18 months before looking again, unless a really good deal pops up
  4. Yeah, I'm sure it'll be rebuilt from the ashes. where else are you going to see grown men in leather romper suits embarass themselves as they use the toilet :P h
  5. Mpg can be a nightmare as no-one really knows the conditions/where you are driving too. Same journey with a different direction can show some mad differentials in mpg. When I drive to manchester I get high 60s on the way but high 50s on the way back. All due to me living 1000ft up so the extra climbing/lack of downhill on the way back uses more fuel. So about 5-10 mpg difference for the same journey which is 120 miles in either direction. Also I get more mpg in my wife's car than she does, even though we go about the same speed. I put this down to her still thinking the accelerator pedal is a digital not analog device.
  6. Well we live 8 miles from the local shops/school so we do that almost every day. All other journeys are 20+ miles on A roads/dual/motorways. Hence, why a diesel is perfect. I also go to Manchester twice a month and that's a 250 mile round trip and my little fabia 1.4 tdi 75 three pot, loves it and gets over 60mpg+ providing I keep below 80. It even pulls up Hartside pass without me thinking I need more power. I guess it's a matter of keeping one's eyes peeled and if the right car comes at the right price, just pounce. Traditionally we've bought 12-18 month old VW group cars as they appear to offer great value. Also two good local indy VW specialists helps matters too. (well 25 miles away is local to us!)
  7. Hi all skoda-ites, I drive a fabia estate TDI and do about 15k miles a year, wife drives a 1.6 cr TDI 7 year old golf but does 20-25k a year. Her current car has almost 130 on the clock. Hence we both fit exactly into the 'buy a diesel' category. The current plan is to run her car until it dies or throws the "it's not worth it" bill. My question is about the future availability of medium sized diesel cars in general. When she needs replacement, hopefully in 2-4 years time, will medium sized diesels still be available or even worth purchasing as it appears that most cars now come with small turbo petrol engines. Not that petrol is an issue but it would drastically increase fuel costs. We had a 1.2 tsi golf as a courtesy car when he golf was in for 'the fix' and due to us living in the middle on nowhere in a really hilly area of the north Pennines, it managed only 38mpg, when her 1.6 TDI manages 55 on average. I know that keeping her current car is the cheapest option but I'm curious what people think availability of entry model medium sized diesel cars will be in 2-4 years time. Also noting that it seams cheap to buy 12-18 month old diesels at the minute, especially the rapid. Any ideas /thoughts?
  8. It's a shame as I do ~15-20k a year and live at 1400ft up. So every journey involves a 'big hill'. Little fabia 1.4tdi 75 still manages to do 60+ mpg on average. (old a3 2.0 tdi did high 40s)
  9. Why are we not mourning the death of TDI engines in the fabia?
  10. TBH all engines are now complex beasts. Jump or booster pack only.
  11. Surely the Fabia is just a polo for people who aren't badge snobs?
  12. Hi all, Damn washer jets have stopped working. I thought it was the weather but no noise even after the car has sat in a warm (7c) carpark all day. Issue is the manual is useless. Anyone know which fuse it is? Thanks
  13. Great isn't it. One weird thing is that if you put the passenger seat all the way forward there is more room in the back (for the bairn) than any car I've ever seen! The boot is also cavernous for such a small car.
  14. Sadly no cruise but I do have AC. I'm quite used to 3 pots as we used to have a 1.2 polo (55hp of pure sewing machine). If anything they have 'charm' and suit the personality of the fabia perfectly. We also shouldn't forget that the fabia is a small (well small by modern standards) car so won't be as refined as larger ones.
  15. I've only got the 75 hp version in my little S estate I find the noise levels worst at about 1600-1800 but smoother and quieter below and above that. IE 60 on the motorway or more noisy than 70. Also there is lots of noise on the overrun. Still loving the car. I live in the middle on nowhere at almost 1400ft :P The little diesel engine still does over 60mpg When my old a3 2.0tdi would only go 45 :(
  16. Silly q but have you driven 3 pots before? They make a completly different noise to 4 pots.
  17. I'm sure the VW group could make an engine that almost never breaks down and goes for over 500,000 miles. I doubt it would pass current emission standards.
  18. Just a quite note in 110,000 miles out 1.6 CR golf has eated. A sensor in the DPF EGR valve One injector. That's not exactly bad going it is.
  19. We live in one the highest places in England and go up Hartside pass twice a week.... When our golf had an 'incident' with a deer we had a little bluemo polo (1.2) for a week. If it can manage Hartside without me (2nd car is a lotus elise) complaining, it's fine.
  20. Hi all, Picking up my little 1.4 tdi 75 S next Thursday. It can't come fast enough.
