  1. After the disappointment of not having a sim slot in my Columbus system (MY2018) I set up my android phone for the WLAN connection and to automatically launch WiFi hotspot when Bluetooth is connected, but I seem to have to go in the WLAN setting and select my phones connection each time I get in the car on the Columbus system to get an internet connection, is this correct or am I not giving it enough time to auto connect. I Am loving the car and have just updated the maps too 2018 and added the speed alerts. Any advise welcome.
  2. Hi just an update i have installed a program called Tasker to set up a auto connect profile that works with android 8.0, seems to work ok. Just checked an older superb spec sheet and the Wi-Fi with LTE internet is only standard from January 2018 but an option before, just checked the June 2017 brochure, its a shame i did not get it and the fact the lease company said my car was built in January not ( December as i previously posted) by actually was built on the 27/11/2017. Still love the car and have just updated the Maps to 2018.
  3. Have set it up tethered to my phone seems to work ok, just got to send the sim back. 5 1/2 hour drive back from Manchester with no backache and a big smile on my face love my new car.
  4. Just got my car no sim slot, just checked manufacture day September 2017 . Just on my way home nice 4 1/2 hour drive.
  5. Maddiclrl it can be used as part of the Skoda connect as the Inbuilt sim is only used for the emergency call and the remote access to the car, the infotainment part has to have a separate internet connection, either the the sim slot with a card or tethered to a phone or a WiFi point. As far as I can make out only the Columbus or a car with wireless charging box with LTE have the sim slot in the MY18.
  6. Thats good because that's the only option that mentions the sim card slot in the options list, thanks for your information.
  7. I can't wait to get mine just spent 5 hours in an i30 getting from London to Manchester to pick my car up tomorrow and can just about walk
  8. ljones that's the card that I have got I take it you have not got the wireless charging box? 2 wheels would love to had dsg again I had one with a old 170 passat nut it's a company car and had to have a manual but got upgraded from se tech to an all for nothing so can't complain
  9. Did you have the sim card slot in your car 2 wheels ?
  10. I think the 150 DSG and the 4x4 had adblue before but the manual cars were going to get it as well
  11. Thanks DBT85 i did see the post and have set android auto to developer mode, do you use 720 or 1080 as your output resolution just wondered if the Columbus has a 1080 screen.
  12. Thanks for the reply Steve hopefully mine will have the sim slot. yours sounds like a great car mine is only a 150 SEL manual wish I could have ordered front sensors but think it’s a stock car, but did get an upgrade from an SE Technology
  13. I think the MY18 cars have a built in sim for the emergency call and remote access but you have to use your phone or the sim for the infotainment stuff. It is a bit confusing when there are so many manuals telling you different things.
  14. Ok thanks will give them a try, I am using a Garmin sat nav at the moment in my old car so will give them a try
  15. I think you can use the Skoda connect if you use your phone as a hotspot from what I have read,I have set up an account just waiting for the car so I can put the vin in and finish the set up, but think it might only be for MY18 cars with the extra buttons in the roof.
  16. It’s the auto connect for the WiFi connection I would like so I can use the Skoda connect for traffic updates and parking etc, not sure if your car has the skoda connect facilities .They took the auto tether away on android 8.0 for some reason. I wanted to try the cars sat nav first and then if I don’t like it I have waze on my phone so could try that, thanks for the info
  17. Hi Terry is that the WiFi hotspot connection or just the Bluetooth
  18. Just thought it would be better not to have to tether the phone every time I get in the car , as I said the auto tethering apps don’t work on android 8.0. There seems no reason why some people have a sim port and some don’t
  19. Just an update the car is in transit so dealer could not do a physical check but assures me that it has a sim slot, I will find out Thursday at 10:30 when the car is delivered.
  20. JR RS if you look at the uk configurator only the wireless charging and LTE mention the sim slot , even when you look at the Columbus as an upgrade it does not say it has a sim slot. Perhaps it only happened late in 2017 who knows.
  21. Thanks for the info guys, will try and ring the dealer tomorrow and get them to check, seems like it might be a lottery if you get one or not.
  22. I think it may be that it has an extra aerial to boost the signal and can use that for the sim as well.
  23. John do you know your month build or do you have the wireless charging box ?
  24. What’s not making sense is that some people with a MY18 Columbus have a sim and some don’t, perhaps it’s the later builds that don’t have it as Blowhards is a November build and he does not have it.
