  1. Isn't it nice when something on a modern vehicle (albeit an added extra) is actually made to work as hoped for. Now see how long it takes you to forget it's there !!
  2. My Nextbase 522 + Rear Screen Camera were fitted by the dealer, hard wired to a permanent live feed & power cable routed up A pillar. Power/data cable to rear screen comes off camera & is routed under the roof lining. 522 apparently has a motion detector which turns it on when the engine starts & off when the engine stops. This includes when start/stop engages at, say, traffic lights. The re-start is so quick I don't notice it. It also turns the cameras on if the car is parked & is nudged (or worse) by somebody else so no more anonymous car park hit & runs. I see that Nextbase offers an installation service at your home but don't know what this costs or if it's available as a separate service after purchase of the camera.
  3. Where you live & drive will obviously have some bearing. I (in Cornwall) haven't got a heated screen in the Karoq & didn't have one in my (11 yrs) Yeti. I don't find it a problem, but I did go for the pack which included the steering wheel heater - a bit of history in my family of circulation problems in older age. Now in my second winter with the Karoq & I honestly feel the heated wheel has paid for itself. Each to his own!
  4. Give it time... The EU will doubtless make it compulsory before too long & manufacturers will probably find it too fiddly to not fit to UK bound vehicles (with appropriate adjustment to car's price).
  5. Better idea. I had the (front & back) dashcam (Nextbase 522 + Rear Window Cam) fitted by the dealer, hard-wired to a permanently live fuseway. The camera turns itself on when the engine is started (vibration detector) & will do so if the car is 'nudged' in a car park, so (hopefully) no scratch & runs anymore !! It turns itself off when it detects no engine vibration - even when waiting in a queue & the stop/start has kicked in - but is immediately back in action when engine restarts. I've virtually forgotten that it's there !
  6. You seem to have covered all angles. As long as you remember (when going on the occasional long journey) to make sure you've got the cable with you!!
  7. 1) Do you have a phone with wireless charging? 2) Does the car have the wireless charging pad? You might still have to address the issue of battery drain on the phone if you can't charge wirelessly (for either reason above).
  8. I'm not overly fussed at not having one, but would be interested to know how much ???
  9. A (potentially) interesting conundrum. Over the course of the summer I had occasion to programme 16 ‘one-off’ destinations into my Amundsen MIB3 system. I deleted each one after the relevant journey, via the ‘saved destinations’ page/screen. I have now found that partial reference (general area + postcode only) to each of them has been retained, and is “offered” as a potential destination on the ‘spider’s web’ overlay when I start the car. None of them appear when the saved destination store is called up, but tapping on one will cause the system to plan & offer a route to it. After fiddling for half an hour or so I have deleted them from this ‘reservoir’ by pressing & swiping (right to left) which causes the delete dustbin to appear (as when deleting from the ‘saved’ page/screen). I’ve now got an uncluttered store of destinations but it does seem strange that the system seems to require that any saves are deleted twice.
  10. I've got wireless charging in the car but the phone's too old for it. Brodit holder to the left of the gear lever & a 30cm USBc to USBmicro does the business.
  11. Judging by some of the (many) comments on here (and elsewhere) on this & various other topics I would suggest that a large percentage of owners might call it "F.A.T."
  12. Have you applied to Guinness World Records yet ?
  13. I would suggest that "Sale of Goods Act"......"Not fit for purpose"........"Various Consumer Rights Acts" etc need to be brought into play. I'm not at all sorry that I have not gone down the 'latest technology' path on my car (in that I haven't embraced all the latest gizmos etc. provided), and have to say that if I had encountered half of the (very wide-ranging) problems reported her and on other mediums I would be engaging the services of a consumer law savvy lawyer and/or Trading Standards. The monies we are expected to part with nowadays, and what we (or, at least, some of us) get in return is nothing more than an almighty ripoff. I'm waiting for my first major problem (car is 13 mths old) but I certainly won't hold back if any of the 'niggles' reported on here should arise.
  14. And a lot more of 'em...............
  15. "works so well wirelessly in our 2020 Kamiq"...........I think they call it 'Progress' !
