Possibly a "bargain" when compared with main dealership prices, hopefully someone who is going through this via a Skoda main dealership workshop will report back with the cost of getting that work carried out there.

300 plus vat for parts, so not too bad I suppose.

Must say, after having a new mazda 2 hire car, getting back in monte is an absolute joy 👌👍

Mmmm, I would reserve judgement till I had seen it.

Yes the fuel rail pressure is very high bit being hydraulic and not pneumatic pressure it would drop to zero once the tiniest amount of fuel had leaked.

Yes there will be a pump pushing through more fuel at a now lower pressure but the leak only has to be a couple of thou for all the fuel to escape, not enough for it to have taken the tubing beyond its elastic limit.

It could be that the garage are using the same logic, whether misguidedly or to bump up the bill we can only speculate.

A question when this job is done by VAG under warranty or recall do they replace the fuel rail?

And regarding the fasteners shearing, they must be made of Chinesium or Cheese to shear from the system pressure, there is no need for higher tensile bolts (although why not given the consequences of failure), just ones that have been correctly heat treated and/or not overtorqued.

If over tightening was the issue then of course a higher tensile bolt would have prevented the failure.

My gut feeling is that they haven't been tightened enough, causing the fixture to fret against the bolt head.

I'm going to try and retrieve the original rail for inspection and to prove that nothing underhand is taking place ,I will be very surprised if so.

I would tell VOSA though, as should everyone else that has had this issue which is certainly 'Safety Critical'  and should have had Skoda / VW taking action about with a Voluntary Recall as a minimum, but as time goes past it should be a RECALL with VOSA / DVLA providing Registered Keepers details to VW UK.

    Done ✔️

  4. What a fiasco.

Garage that I use have phoned me today to inform me that they have had to order a new fuel as the old rail has bent.

I can't see how the rail could have bent, I'm going to get the old one back of course ,so I can examine it.

I'm going to send an email to skoda uk about the issue.

I agree have g.maps or waze pn the touchscreen is much better than try to look on the phone.

which app do you use g.maps or waze? Im torn as I like g.maps as it has lane guidance feature but I also like waze as it shows when you are over speeding limit.

I have the pocketgpsworld speed cam database running in the background. Works ok and also gives an overspeed warning.

Try a different usb cable, switching bluetooth off on the phone ?

My Huawei phone would not work with android auto until I tried a better quality usb cable,

I bought an 'Anker' cable, you can tell straight away when you plug it in that it's a quality item.

As Ken said. It’s only a tiny delay m/s and not a fault but now your brain has tuned into the lag it’s more noticeable.

I think you may be right.

Been away this week and done a lot of driving, not really noticed it.

Yet did a journey a couple of weeks ago and it was the only thing that I could focus on and it seemed horrendous.

    Thanks to all for input.

  8. Anyone noticed a vague feeling in the steering when driving on a motorway or dual carriageway?

It's like a feeling of, for want of a better word, notchiness , when the steering wheel is moved slightly either side of centre.

Car is a 2016 Monte with 14k miles

    Thanks

  9. I have recently had my work computer updated from xp to windows 10.
My work involves writing programs for a cnc machine , each program has a new 7 digit number , the next one is written with the next no. and so on.
When saved on my old comp these files were save int0 a folder in batches of 100, When this was reached it created another folder with a new name for the next 100. All done automatically.
This no longer happens on the new comp.

Is this something that can be implemented easily (I am a bit of a duffer with computers)?

    Thanks in advance.

I noticed when driving at 60 on a fairly straight road that the steering had a slight notchy feel either side of straight ahead. Turn the wheel very slightly to make a small correction on a very gentle curve, and the wheel felt as if it got heavier, then lighter again as I turned further.

Sounds very similar to the problem with my Fabia (2016) except without any noise issues.  It's most disconcerting to drive when 'straight ahead'

My 2016 fabia feels the same.

    Did you resolve the issue?

Well, if you are lucky you might notice oil being thrown out, that is just a guess, if you are worried, just remove one screw, I seem to remember, then tilt the cam belt cover over and out of the way, slightly tricky, when you have done that you get a good view of the top of the belt and that pulley - it is the inlet pulley so the one nearest the front of the car, any oil leaking out due to the screws slackening off should be obvious - I checked that on my wife's late July 2015 build Polo a year or so ago and intend to repeat that every year - really just to play safe, by the way, there was no evidence of oil escaping on that car.

    Thanks, will check it out.

The biggest thing I notice between the two engine types (1.2 & 1,0 turbo engines) is that when loaded with a proper heavy load, the 1.0 struggles to pull as hard as the 1.2 engine, especially when accelerating away from roundabouts and up hills. With max torque at 1400rpm the 1.2 gets into it's stride very quickly. The 1.0 has to wait until the engine hits 2000rpm before it starts to really go. But for me I only really noticed it to any degree with big loads in the back. I carried motorcycle engines in the back on re-enforced floor boarding with the seats down in a 1.0 estate and that, combined with the hills of Wales, did put the motor under considerable pressure. The 1.2 definitely handled it better. Most folks will never do what I do in one though so won't experience any issues. The 1.0ltr is a nice engine.

macamx, forgot to mention that the catastrophic engine failures on the 1.2TSI cambelt engines is usually due to variable valve timing oils seals leaking and then failing. Several engines have self destructed, but it's so rare it's not worth worrying about. You are more likely to have water pump or cambelt failure (which never happens on these modern motors unless neglected). So really, don't worry about it. Just drive your 1.2 for as long as you like. It'll be fine.

What are the symptoms of the vvt seal failure?

  13. I had trouble connecting my Huawei p8 to my Fabia, but solved it by using a better usb cable (Anker powerline).

Access the android auto app on your phone then plug it in. Go to the menu on the infotainment system and select the android auto option (I think the ignition needs to be on)

If the android auto icon is not in the menu then select smartlink , device, then select your phone.

I think the android auto app is brilliant. Listen to music via Spotify, plus the voice control button on the steering wheel works.

  14. Cheers Alltorque,

Can you flatten and polish the enamel paint, the chips are quite deep (Changing the wheels I had to knock them  off as they were seized to the hubs, thinks to myself, I better put some old carpet on the floor just in case the wheel suddenly comes away. Did I do it? Did I heck. Hence the chips. Ouch, lesson learnt).
