Yeah exactly. During my year and half wait for a Kodiaq, I got a 3 year old Sportage. The 7 warranty ideally needs all the services to be done on time by a Kia dealer. Finding a car which had that was difficult. If it's not and you put in a warranty claim they may want to see exactly what oil and parts were used during those non Kia services.

Hi Theo, that’s interesting, how did you find the Kodiaq compared to the Sportage?

I started this topic as my lease was coming to the end and wasn’t sure what to get next, we’re really pleased with the SEL I have, but wanted a change and had to be slightly smaller (tight driveway) but big enough and comfortable for two people plus two smallish dogs in the boot.

There's no question it's a better warranty than VW group but don't assume. For example you'll receive a big bill from Kia if anything infortainment system related fails after 3yr. which is similar to Skoda.

As we should do with any warranty, forget what the sales people say, always read the small print.

Indeed, I knew this but the Kia salesman volunteered the info that the infortainment was only covered for 3 years.

Also don’t assume that just because a car at a dealership is advertised on the manufacturer’s used car website as having a manufacturer warranty that it is.

Looked at one car that had a Halfords first service and the second service hadn’t been done and was way overdue but salesman assured me it had the remaining manufacturer’s warranty………..

  3. I finally decided on a nearly new Sportage gt-line s petrol auto awd. Was tempted by another lease on a Kodiaq Sportline or a new hybrid Sportage but couldn’t justify the financial commitment for the next few years because of the current omni shambles we’re experiencing with inflation, pensions, energy costs and whatever else the government decides to impose to reach net zero before the rest of the world.

Not quite as refined and spacious as the Kodiaq but drives well, has an amazing amount of standard kit, tech and gadgets plus the reminder of the Kia 7 year warranty.

The 7 year warranty was the clincher in not getting another Skoda as wanted the reassurance of no big bills if I keep the car for a few years. I’ve been driving Skodas off and on (mostly on) since I bought a 1 year old T reg diesel Octavia many moons ago

If it works for you, why not? And if you really want not-leather seats, how about a Sportline? I'd agree that buying the same spec or the same colour would be boring / pointless / whatever, but switching to a 'sporty' one with the sports seats and in a different colour will make it feel like an all-new all-different car... but you'll still have the same large boot and auto 'box in a package that's no bigger than a Kodiaq 😉.

(I went Edition > VRS and - even ignoring the engine - it's like having a completely different car, but with all the benefits I loved about the first one)

Edit: oh, and going non-facelift > facelift also helped with feeling like it was a different car

You do make a compelling argument, a new revised Sportline would fit the bill. 👍😃

  5. Starting to think about what to replace mine with as the lease is up in March.

really love the car, hasn’t missed a beat, comfortable, refined with a boot space ideal for dog crates, settees, wood, etc etc.

Only must haves are auto, massive boot, (not fussed about rear passenger space), cloth seats if possible and not any bigger than the Kodiaq.

I should get the same but don’t like getting the same car twice. Also not sure I can now get a decent spec with cloth seats as the SE L I think now has leather as standard.

I’ve been thinking about a Karoq or a Kia Sportage or Hyundai equivalent or even a XC60.

Unsure what you mean that it’s odd not to be able to travel in leather seats! Why is it odd? Some people are left handed, some people are lactose intolerant, some people are allergic to certain things, are all of those people odd?

i have bought cars and hired cars with leather interior, I have travelled as a passenger in cars with leather interior, and I get sick, travel sickness, apparently it’s a form of motion sickness, which some people used to experience when using iPhones, I’m sorry that this makes me odd in your opinion, I’m also sorry that your opinion doesn’t really count to me either

sadly the rest of your post was lost on me

So I think you need to limit yourself to cloth seated SUV’s that are on motability. I don’t think Motability would be too pleased if you handed back the car sans leather seats.

Not sure your analogy with being left handed is correct it’s more in line with having arachnophobia - the irrational fear of spiders.

I’m reminded of Chuck McGill from Better Call Saul.

  7. I’ve tried updating using an SD card but went back to the following method.

If you download via the SIM (online) it’s an incremental update so only need to download I think about 2GB.

I just take out the free 3 200MB Sim out and put in the SIM card out of my phone which has plenty of free download on its plan.

When done put the 3 sim back in.
