  1. Im soooo curious... Have'nt you got the tensioner yet ? BR Mikkel
  2. Hi GamesGoblin, Have You been able to try to replace the chain-tensioner only, and see if that helped the rattle at cold startup ? Or it did'nt make a difference ? I would really like to know ? BR Mikkel
  3. That is really interresting! Please kindly update your experience changing the tensioner , and if it makes any difference comparing to how Your engine sounds at startup now. BR Mikkel
  4. Hi Golf-Friend, And thanks for your answer. Is hydraulic tappet noise also a result of the missing oil-pressure in the process of starting the engine ? Is it only on these types of engines (EA111) that the oil pressure takes 2-3 seconds to build up in the engine, or is that a common thing with all engines ? BR Mikkel
  5. Its true that the machine makes a pressure control before it regasses the circuit, but if the "hole" int the system is tiny, then the machine will not detect it. Normally they also fill with a flouresent substance, so as stated above an uv torch could give you an idea where the gas slips out.
  6. Engine temperature has nothing to do with the performance of the climatronic, and the coolness of the air. The compressor is running when the engine is running and the climatronic's A/C function is turned on. If there is enough gas on the system, you should have baltic cold air within 30-60 seconds of starting the engine.
  7. It would be much appreciated if someone with engine knowledge would take a short listen to the video, and the rattle at the startup ? BR Mikkel
  8. Hi All! I have this O2 1.2 tsi 2010 with the EA111 chain engine. The engine did have a complete chain and sprocket renewal in 2017, 80.000 km ago. Im nervous the chain again is elongated, but perhaps Im worried for no reason. I know that this engine is supposed to rattle, until oilpressure builds up, and it does only rattle when cold started (1-2 days since last start), and never rattles when driving. Im aware of the issue with oilfilter seals, and there is not a forgotten seal in my engine. Do you think it sounds un healthy ? At the start on the video it has'nt had a start in 5 days. Even though the chain tensioner is hydraulic, do you think a tensioner can be tired, and become less good over time ? Would it be pointless to try to replace the tensioner only, hoping for less ratlle at startup ? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ANWCQ9MKvQvRoEFbe6yJnan8IPsE7Lq2/view?usp=sharing
  9. Hi, I also have an engine CBZB 1.2 tsi, and Im nervous about if the chain rattles to much, It only has the strong rattle at sartup for 1-2 seconds, and the it quiets down, but off course Im still able to ar thhe chain rotating. Mine is from sptember 2010, ad the engine control is a simos 10.10, but i simply cant find the value for chain elongation you are writing about. Eg. your chain was 3.4 degrees out. Is it only in newer versions of engine control this is possibe ? I have other values, relating to adaptation between crankshaft and camshaft, and therefore they say something (nut i dont know what) about the length of the chain. Anyone can explain whet these degrees means ?
  10. Yes it looks like this and the signaledges must come from the camshaft sensor - but pls. clarify what the amount of degrees referring to ?
  11. But those values are more or less static. They dont change when reving engine, so the adaptation is like very slow changing, which also seems right as the chain elongates very slowly. But whar i would like to know, is like, what is "intake_camshaft_adaptation value_signaledge 2" = 5 degrees. Is that how far from crankshaft reference position that this mark is on the camshaft ? But then it makes no sense that signaledge_3 is only 0.5 degrees. I would really like to know what im reading here ?
  12. Thanks for telling me that - but can you also tell me what these adaptation values in degrees is reference to ?
  13. Hello Everyone, Im really hoping that a technical expert is able to answer this question. For the 1.2 tsi CBZB engine, stretched timing chains is an issue. And the timing between the crankshaft and the camshaft is depending on the chain has the correct length. I was told by skoda that the ecu is monitoring the phase between the 2 shafts, and if its to mych out of phase, it will turn on engine light. BUT im also told that the engine in fact is capable of running pretty normal even if chain has jumped 1 or 2 teeths !!! I have been looking all available measurement points in the engine ecu, and the only thing i find which obvious relates to this, is 270 X_Intake_camshaft_signaledge_position_adapted_value_Edge2 to Edge8. I think it says something about how much the ignition should be adjusted, by comparing the signals from the crank and camshaft. But whst tdoes the values really say ? In general poeple on the net agree that bigger vaues are not good. My chain has just been measured by skoda, and it is NOT too long. I had another car with the same CBZB engine 1.2 tsi, wich were also mesured chain was NOT to long, also attached. Obviously there is difference in how much addaptation needed for the two engines, Im just sooo courious what this adaptation means ? For my engine it says in another measurement that advance timing for cylinder 1 is 8.5 degrees, and the adaptation values is as follows:
  14. I agree. The car was transported to the workshop by a transport company, and i had over the phone beforehand talked to the boss. I got a phonecall from a mechanic, telling me, that they had listen to the car with a stetoscope for 20 minutes, trying to find a knock, but the knocking was not present. There was no mis-soounding of the angine at all. Then i mailed the video, and the mechanic immeadiately said, that the knocking on the video was not present, but no doubt that was conrod bearings. They dismantled the bottom of the engine, and told me, that by inspection and measurements the conrod bearings was not at all defect. and because the engine is now dismantled it is not possible to run it for further investigation 😕 The oil chain was very loose, and he said that they had found some plastic pieces in the oil sump.
  15. Yes i have just emailed him, but i dont think i comes from the clutch. Its very periodic. the car managed to idle for 15 minutes before there was some knocking. Other suggestions are welcome
  16. Its an 1.2 tsi, and its a single mass flywheel. But the gearbox was demounted and a new clutch fitted, 3 months ago. Can there be loose bolts or something ?
  17. Hi, I will try to do this short, most of all i would like you to listen to the video. The knocking sound is periodic, but comes mostly when the engine is hot. The belt is off, sp its not from the compressor, generator aso. Car is octavia 1.2 tsi 2010, with new chain ffitted 70.000 km ago. It rattles 1-2 seconds at startup and then no more rattle. This knocking also sounds more like metal to metal. At about second 10 you hear 1 knock, then there is a little break, and then the knocking is present. As far i can figure, the knocking has a frequency about 1/4 of engine rpm. The engine idles at 720 rpm, and there is about 3 knocks per second. A skoda mechanic has heard the video, and he was sure it was conrod bearings, the present engine workshop could not get the engine to knock, but also heard the video and said conrod bearings, but now the car sits at the engine workshop without oilpan, and they have inspected all conrod bearings, and according to them, they are as new ? The have done a conference with audi in flensburg, and they say that the knocking sound also could be the chain - i just dont understand if the chain makes such perfect knocking sound following the rpms of the engine. Its DAK DAK DAK DAK very consistently when its present. Because it is possible that the knocking dissapears. I would be very glad, if you could try to hear the video. After i hold the phone out the window approx. at second 10 there comes 1-2 loud knocks, then a little pause and then 2-3 seconds of knocking at idle speed. I then give a little gas, and the knocking frequency raises. When i run out in front of the car the knocking has dissapeared and the engine sounds normal. Remember the aux belt is dismounted, so the compressor, generator and water pump does not turn. Is it possible that a trained specialized engine workshop can misdiagnose conrod bearings ? Do you believe its the chain making these regular metal knocking sounds ? BR Mikkel 12 tsi knocking.mp4
  18. I have just had my gearbox ( manual 6 speed Octavia 1.2 tsi 2011), refurbished with all new bearings aso. I think skoda said that there was 6 bearings in total. Thay also told me that the 6 speed gearbox on these models are weak and that it is a common thing they go noisy. I was also reccomended to change gearbox oil every 90.000 km, even though it is stated to last for life.
  19. Hello friends, I have this octavia 1.2 tsi, that is having the 2 second chain rattle at startup, but otherwise no chain rattle sound. Recent the startup chain rattle also happends after just 1-2 hours of parking. My question is if the hydraulic chain tensioner is a part that weakens as years go by ? Or is it so that either it works or it does'nt ? Im asking because the car is at service, and im thinking maybe to ask them to replace the tensioner with a new one. 80.000 km ago, skoda replaces the complete chain set 158B , so i has gotten a new chain tensioner in 2017. But can it be worn ? BR Mikkel
