  1. Am afraid I totally agree about Telfords, stopped using them 2 years ago, I could list the issues I've had with them, but I haven't got time! Am using Simpons in Preston, on the whole they do a good job, but then again I am prone to the odd whinge.
  2. Seems too steep for me. I also have a 2002 Elegance TDI, and payed 3500 for it nearly 4 years ago with the same mileage. Even with the service and belt included I think it's prolly too much. A great car tho, you won't regret it.
  3. On my 51 TDI too, although 1 or the rubber strips is loose and flies around abit like a dodgy comb over, will get it glued down
  4. The roof had thawed out now and the sunroof closes ok, curse this cold weather. Thanks for your help anyway, will get it looked at next service
  5. Have searched for help on this and not really found any solution. I've noticed in the last couple of days on my work commute that my sunroof has been opening in tilt mode or trying to (it won't open in slide mode due to being frozen up, -12 overnight). Wondered what the noise was, thought it was just snow sliding of the roof. This morning got out of the car and noticed that the sunroof isn't quite closed (sticking up a few mm). Am waiting for the temperature to warm a bit before attempting to see if I can get it to rest in the close position. Also a couple of weeks ago when we got the first lot of snow I noticed that after getting to work the rear passenger window had opened itself sometime after getting out of the car, a work colleague had informed me that it was snowing into my car! Is this indicative of a common problem does anyone know. Any help would be most appreciated
  6. Surely replacing the only original spring would minimise the gap? Might get em to do 1 then check, then again I guess springs take time to settle in? More likely that I'll live with it and if I ever have £300 spare may get it sorted. Thanks for making me realise the obvious
  7. Just had front springs done, one broke at the bottom, the other at the top, both within days!!! Got the car back, pretty happy with the job done. Decided to check the clearance between the wheel arch and wheel, pretty even as I could see. Then decided to check the rear clearance and noticed it out by a few cms. Remembered about 18 months ago getting 1 rear coil done, should of done both thinking back, don't know why I didn't. Was wondering is there any thing to do to make the gap smaller, or would it even be worth considering getting the only original sping on the back replaced? Any thoughts or views would be greatly appreciated
  8. Just had my car back from garage, was told my compressor has expired :( and will be 900 quid for new replacement. They then said they could try and locate an after sales refurb one. Anyway they got back to me today and said it will be 450 ish quid inc. VAT etc. I think this seems reasonable, what does anyone else thing, apart from finding one from a scrappy or ebay, don't think I'll get it cheaper
  9. Hello, have just had my Octy I serviced last week and needed a new cruise control stalk. I've noticed since getting it back that there is a scuffing like friction noise when turning the wheel at slow speeds, would a quick blast of WD40 be wise or take it back to the garage, which I'd rather not do as I've already taken it back once for oil overfill and sent them an email to let them know how unimpressed I was. Hope you can help, Cheers
  10. Wish I could share everybody's good experience with Simpson, unfortunately I've just had mine back from a service and checked the oil level which was 1cm overfilled. Took it back, they checked level which was near max, although the engine had only been off for 2mins! They emptied some oil out into a bottle and gave me it back, no recompense though for the 50 mile round trip and 90 mins of work time missed :( For the money i pay for a straight forward service (£230) I would expect the very least that the dip stick level would be checked and that total faith in a machine wouldn't be taken! I shall be emailing them about this.
  11. Thanks for your recommendations, will give em a go. Have another slight scuff caused by a bike tyre I think on the door, so may get a man to do that as I think it may require more work. Just looked at it in the light of day and it does look like a pretty dull mark :( About the size of a slice of bread
  12. I've just managed to clean of a huge bird poop from my rear wing, problem is I used the scouring sponge (ones you use for washing up) used the sponge side, wasn't working and then rough side (lightly) started removing it (and also the glare/shine from the paint! it's dark so only street light glare, not seen it in the day yet!) It's a recently painted panel, so wondering if that's why it's had such an effect. Have used scouring sponges before but this has never happened. I already feel a champion nob having found better ways to do this and should have known better! Is there any polish type of stuff or wax that would help remedy it do you think? Eek!

  14. I'm having some funny issues with my cc at the mo, where is the brake light switch which can cause this problem? My break lights appear to function correctly at the moment.
  15. Have noticed since getting my car back from the garage that when I reset my mileage, the stalk doesn't come back out and stays stuck, so when I start ignition I get a service message. Seems to be ok if I pull out the stalk, I'm sure it used the spring back out before. Anyone had this happen before, is it expensive to fix, will get it looked at next service. Hope you can help, Cheers muchly
  16. I don't have any dash light to indicate cc, think because it's the old version?
  17. Yep, that's the one I've got. Think I may live with it till next service, although I have been meaning for a while to get my laptop connected to the car, but need to research what equipment and software I need to do it. The only thing I think that may have caused a problem is when I got the car back, both my A and B computer reading had been reset, so makes me think the battery was disconnected for a while. May try disconnecting it again and see if it makes any difference.
  18. On my stalk you need to slide it to the right until it clicks to turn off cruise control. Think it is the standard stalk as it was fitted when the car was manufactured.
  19. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem before, just started since I picked it up after a respray. What happens is I make my way up to speed, say 50 mph, activate cruise control, everything working fine. Next I decide to speed up a mph or 2, by sliding the slder to the left (+). This seems to cancel the cruise control and car starts to slow. Has only happened last 2 times I've gotten into my car from cold (freezing). Strange thing is, after 10 mins or so, the + button seems to start working again and not cancelling the cruise control! Weird! Any ideas oh great ones?
  20. Just noticed my f/n/s is squished! Wondered about the wood and hammer approach!
  21. Am at bit of a quandry! Had 2 bumps recently in the octy (1 my fault, the other someone elses). The first bump (6 months ago) required a new tailgate and rear bumper. The first respray wasn't a good match so what they did was to blend the paint into the quarter panels on both sides. It looked ok, although I am a little colour blind. Unfortunately they did cause other damage in the course of the repair, ripped headlining, scratches and the windscreen sidings have never gone back again properly since the quarter panels were painted. They swapped the headlining, managed to make the windscreen sidings look a bit better. Then 3 months later a car reversed into my rear offside wheel arch, another insurance job, but went with a different repair place as I was unhappy with the previous one. The repair of the wheel arch was pretty good, but on cleaning/waxing the car they managed to put a few substancial scratches on the car (not marked on their inspection sheet), one of the scratches was on the newly fitted and painted tailgate. They agreed to fix it, not sure whether they resprayed the whole thing or just the part around the scratch. The respray look ok, not perfect, by this time I had taken quite a lot of time off work and had 'had enough'. I know metallic paint can be far from straight forward, but of late I feel the paint matching has been looking worse (particularly between the tailgate and quarter panels) , not sure if it's the angle I look at or this much sunnier weather. But it's got to the point were it's really bugging me. It seems to look worse everytime I look at it. Both respray jobs from both repair body garages have a 5yr guarantee. The problem is each garage will only respray the panel they originally did as I understand. I just want a good match all round, but fear a complete respray of the tailgate, rear bumper and quarter panels will be required. Asked insurance company who said take it back to the last garage it was in! Was wondering if anyone has been in a similar position or could offer some advice. (Sorry bout the length of this post, a bit tipsy and kinda got carried away!)
  22. i agree with markseth, happened to me, gently scraped the prongs on the sensor, then voila! Then syponed out enough to check that the sensor was still functional just incase!
  23. Would a 2002 TDi Elegance 110 have them? Guessing not :(
