  1. I'd probably add 30-40k onto the engine wear as these cars are generally used for rapid response, hence start the car, foot to the floor, no time to warm the engine up properly, having said that I've seen some go onto 200k+
  2. I have a 2002 1.9 TDI 110 MK1 Elegance, just curious to which other cars use this engine, I have been told that my engine would have been what was in an Audi and Passat from the late nineties. I assumed it is a stock TDI engine which is used in lots of other cars by Audi and VW just with different 'flavours', add-on etc.
  3. Had almost identical symptoms, turned out to be a wheel bearing. Got garage to do it, unfortunately they knackered the stub axle on removal  (bloody apprentice mechanic). Garage tried to charge me for new stub axle
  4. Brakes were the only things I really needed to get changed or advised to at 60k MOT.
  5. Thought mine would do this, but after changing the fuse I tried it but it still supplied power no matter what I did with the kiddy locks. My friend octy does however stop supplying power when kiddy locks on. I have no kids, so not bothered, also my tomtom is nearly always plugged in so I would prefer a constant supply of power.
  6. You had the same experience as me when I first got mine Glad you like it, happy motoring...
  7. Glad you got yer ciggy lighter fixed, I think the fuses are easy to blow, have seen a lot of reports of them not working, mine didn't work when I bought my car, although I also heard that old skodas may have been manufactured with it purposefully disconnected... who know!
  8. I wonder if you've blown the fuse, I take it the lighter isn't getting hot whilst plugged in. Try checking the fuse, if it is the fuse then, when changed, the lighter should hopefully ping out when hot enough. I could be wrong though
  9. If I leave my car, I take my tomtom with me and leave the mount on the windscreen and also leave the glovebox open, not sure if this will fool the local hoons... Has worked for 4 months so far.
  10. Anyone intalled 6.75 maps for UK and Western Europe? I have downloaded but wandering if I use a dodgy key will I still get my TomTom s/w upgrades?
  11. I would say hand on heart that it is the best car I've ever owned. I find it pleasing to the eye, comfortable on long journeys, handles well for a biggish car. I also find it very economical, generally get over 50 mpg from crusing at around 85 on the motorway. I find also that it has enough punch to make me smile whenever I press the accelerator to the floor, but I don't make a habit of it. Hope this helps.
  12. I bought mine 4 months ago, Green Octy 1.9 TDI Elegance 2002 (51 plate), 50K without timing belt done, for
  13. Mine is a bit sticky going into third too, what should I ask my garage to adjust/look at to get it sorted?
  14. Went to my local Halfords a few weeks ago for a new rear wiper from me Octy MK1 Hatch. The book said 13" for both Halfords make and BOSCH. So bought one only to compare it to the one already on my car, should have measured it first. Rear wiper was 15.5" so must be original, so I went for a 16" BOSCH blade, worked a treat and now it cleans more of my rear windscreen.
  15. Have just noticed that when I open the driver's door slightly, the red door panel light illuminates, but when the door reaches just before the 1st rest position it goes out, opening the door further to full extent the light still won't come on. Passenger side seems to work ok. Any ideas? 2002 Octavia Elegance TDI 110 MK1
  16. Had this problem with my Octavia (2002 Elegance TDI MK1 110BHP). Engine would warm up to normal temp then guage would just drop then go back to normal after a few mins. Got it serviced a few weeks back and the VAG-COM picked up an error on the coolant temp sensor, so they swapped it (although it doesn't look new to me, probably just twiddled with it until the code wasn't produced). Try just pulling the sensor connector off and checking the contacts. The sensor is located on the side of the coolant reservoir and just pulls of I think (there maybe a clip if I remember correctly). Haven't had any issues with it since.
  17. I heard they disconnected the tweeters in the door for parking sensor as my tweeters don't work with the car stereo, could be another issue...
  18. Excuse my stupidity but where is the B pillar trim located? Mine is definitely coming from the tweeter in the back driver's side door. They are disconneted from the stereo for the sole purpose of hearing the parking sensor! Seems a bit of a waste to me. Thanks in advance
  19. What risk would I run not changing it? Could I not just get a new one if it fails, the car has done 60k and is 5 yrs old.
  20. Have just recently had my Octavia (2002 TDI Elegance MK1) serviced with new timing belt, is the water pump an advisory thing, my car has been to Skoda for all it's servicing.
  21. Same happened to me, twiddled with wires in boot and hey presto. I have already asked the question in the Superb forum, but because I've got an Octavia (2002 TDI Elegance MK1), I just noticed that my reverse parking sensor only seems to be utilising the driver's side back door tweeter and not the passenger side, is this right?
  22. They are factor fitted. I did a tested by putting my hand over the passenger side bumper and the noise still came through the driver side speaker, so I'm not quite sure if it a cost saving by only wiring one speaker. Thanks for lightning quick response
