  1. I have been trying to penetrate the fog surrounding the replacement of the daytime running lights on my 2014 Octavia Mk III 2.0 TDI Elegant Estate to LED's. On the face of it, changing to LED is a no brainer, saving fuel and preserving battery charge. However this may not be the case. The factory fitted multi functional bulb provides side, daylight and dipped beam via 2 elements, but I cannot find any info on the wattage of the elements. Therefore it is impossible to determine what, if any savings can be achieved using LED's or if they could deliver better visibility at night time. Plus, the LED's on offer seem to be wedge fitting and one article I read says they should be H15. Add in terms like Canbus??? and coding and my confusion is complete. Can anyone clarify power requirements and also a functional LED replacement bulb spec?
  2. Yes they did, confirming the potential to burn out the clutch if using the handbrake when in D or R.
  3. OK, the result is in! Firstly, thank you all for your comments and contributions. I have learnt a lot about my Octavia gearbox. I took my Octavia to Murray's Skoda Plymouth today and they checked the handbrake. Have to admit that the rolling road pass mark is 16% and mine scored 32%, so the problem is actually me! It seems that the handbrake is exceedingly stiff at the top end and what really seemed to be full on was actually one notch short of optimum, so there is no problem after all. Except that SWMBO may not have enough muscle power to apply it fully, on the odd occasion it might be useful. Have to admit that I am impressed by Murray's Skoda. Their sales person Natalie rang me yesterday, a courtesy call to see how I was getting on with the car and she then got on straight away to the service department to ensure they could check the car over when I arrived today. Then the After Sales Manager brought me a printout of the test, explained the results and advised me to get in touch if I had any further problems with the car. Altogether a rather humbling, but informative visit.
  4. 55K with full skoda SH. Pre delivery to me was Skoda serviced and MOT'd.
  5. I don't disagree as I have learnt something new from this thread, however my main point is that I am more concerned that the MOT and or service may not been properly carried out, in which case I will want to know why. I will not be embarrassed if I am wrong, but will post the results on this thread with apologies if necessary.
  6. It moves on the flat and on a moderate uphill slope in D with no accelerator and parking brake on.
  7. I quite accept what you are saying, but perhaps I have not explained myself correctly. See my reply above to xman about MOT's and servicing being carried out correctly.
  8. I am more concerned that the MOT and or service may not been properly carried out, in which case I will want to know why. I will not be embarrassed if I am wrong, but will post the results on this thread with apologies if necessary.
  9. It goes on to say "Even when the engine is idling, the power transmission is never completely interrupted – the vehicle creeps", which I don't read as causing any damage if using the hand brake as that is not mentioned. Other parts of the manual seem to emphasise when not to do things that could cause damage but this just seems to mean that use of the foot brake is necessary to stop creep.
  10. Because 1. The handbrake is a secondary safety device an the MOT requires it to be effective, so why is mine ineffective immediately after a service and an MOT. I may be wrong, but this smacks of shoddy workmanship. However I will refer my concerns to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and see what they say. 2. What is the difference between using foot brake or handbrake on clutch wear? 3. I don't really want to have to keep using the foot brake or changing to Park when in queues on hills if I don't have to. However I will take further advice on clutch wear.
  11. I have read the manual, but find no such reference. Could you please advise me of the page and ref no?
  12. Took delivery of my first Skoda, a 2014 Octavia 2.0L automatic supplied by my local Murrays Skoda in Plymouth just serviced and MOT'd by them. Problem is, the handbrake does not hold when in drive and that's just at tickover when the car creeps forward. That can't be right, or has the MOT test been changed for automatic cars so the handbrake is irrelevant? Even more concerning, has my car been properly serviced? I have booked her in next week for them to look at the handbrake.
