  1. How worn are the pistons skirt? I saw similar engine to ours dismantled and there was no more teflon on them. Also scratches on the cylinder walls. (about 270k km) My engine (220k km), everything was fine, except piston rings. Wear on the cylinders was even, normal. I now have 20k km since engine replacement, and the oil consumption is about 500ml per 10k km. But I also have a small issue, when I sent the cylinder head for recondition, they messed up some valve seal rings during assembly, and I have white smoke at engine startup. No more smoke whatsoever afterwards. Pretty frustrating, but will be fixed soon.
  2. @roottoot No, I don't, either way 0.5, 1L is still too much. So in fact is worst, which confirms my idea that VW did this 0.5/1000 km $hit just to cover they're a$$'s. @TadyTheFish I replaced the entire block with a new one (around 15k km) from a dismantling shop (shop is owned by my brother in law), cylinder head fully reconditioned with new valves, guides and seal rings. Also did the surface leveling (was not necessary, but did it anyways). New gaskets, bolts, studs, timing, engine mounts, flywheel, etc....total costs in Romania around 2k euro.
  3. Gents, this is not a bad engine! Let's be clear! It's a very good engine, performance wise, good power, very good fuel economy, pulls great from low to high revs, no more issues with injectors, no more issues with egr's, etc, so, in my opinion this is a very good engine. Problem is VW.....and they're service interval recommendation and the naive people who owned them and did the oil change at 30k km! This is a car that supposed to be 'sporty', in fact it is, and when you run hard on the highway with that 15k+ oil, who lost his properties, you begin to destroy everything inside. I have friends who bought the car brand new, did the oil change at max 10k km, and there are no such problems! VW is the problem! And they know that, that's why they stated in the manual that 1L/1k km is fine, so that there will be no legal charges! By the time the car will burn more than that, it will be out of the warranty, and noting for the owners to do, legally. My advice to you all, repair the engine, because is a good engine. You will be surprised to see how much it will change afterwards. It will pull better, sound will be deeper, fuel economy will be better....only good things. I have 12k km since the engine rebuilt, and it runs so smooth. I'm using Ravenol 5W30 VMP USVO, expensive, but good. Oil temps not going more than 117-118, with an ambient of 30-33, on highway, 200km/h +. Great improvement over everything I tried before. Moțul, Castrol, Millers, LiquiMolly.
  4. Hy! The pistons/piston rings are the problem. If you are lucky, you can get away only with piston rings if nothing else is affected. On my car, I replaced the engine block with a new one (old one was not in a bad condition, I'm sure with new piston rings problem would have been solved, but I had a new engine and just swapped it out). Beside engine..... engine mounts, flywheel, timing, AC radiator were replaced, and cylinder head reconditioned. Total costs, close to 2k euro. Done 10k km in last month with little to none oil consumption! So, my problem is fixed. Good luck with yours!

  6. Yes, brand new. Design was slightly different so looks like it's a revised version.... On some cars there were problems with old head cover design.
  7. It seems to me that all fingers point to pistons/piston rings.....unfortunately
  8. Hello gents! I also replaced the head cover last year and no improvement in oil consumption. It's same as before....so need to go deeper. Cheers!
  9. Very difficult these days with mechanics, as they are not mechanics anymore....most of them are only replacing parts.... Tried with all my mechanic buds to start an action on engine....all of them became unavailable LOL.... For the moment this job is postponed as I'm going back to work and leaving the country....if any of you out there proceed with this job, pls share your findings with us. Cheers guys!
  10. Modro can reply to your question about valve seal rings cots. Regarding emissions, there are gases, it will be non euro:)) and also will be smoke....this depends on your tuner.
  11. Helloo guys. Here some updates; On my vRS replaced the dpf with a downpipe and remap, no changes in oil consumption (still running with Millers 5w30). wanted to eliminate issue of frequent regens. Tomorrow I will replace oil with Liqui Moly 5w40 and will see how it goes. Friend of mine Thursday replaced the valve seal rings and still in trial mode, only did 400Km and oil seems to be at same point on the dip stick; fingers crossed.
  12. I saw few weeks ago some dude's doing engine flushing with Liqui Moly Pro Line and also some other....in theory....it should do some good regarding sludge and carbon build ups. I myself did not tried, but it's an ideea to start with. Jamie, with Castrol oil consumption it's huge....1L/1k km....even more if driven hard. Best one was Liqui Moly, about 1L/5k km.... If car runs only city drive with occasional sprints....oil consumption is reduced considerably. If long trips, highways with prolonged sprints....mine can take 1L/2-3k km. So....it's a lot!
  13. Jamie...I think this is only the beginning. Mine two years ago was also drinking about 2-3 liters/10k km...but day by day I see an increase. Tried Castrol Edge (the worst), Motul, Liqui Moly Top Tech and now running with Miller's...except Castrol, all the others have same behavior and same consumption. I will revert with my findings after new year. Be safe, stay safe and Happy New Year! Cheers!
  14. Not yet....after holidays I have some actions planned. Will keep you posted. Cheers and Merry Christmas to all of you!
