  1. there is another option as well. pretty simple to fix. it could be the air conditioning system which constantly uses the air from inside the cabin instead of the fresh air feed from outside. basically it is like doing recirculation at all times. it could be caused by the blockage of the switching plate which opens to intake the fresh air feed or closes the system for recirculation regime. sometimes it blocks in closed position and causes internal condensation. hope it helps igor:thumbup:
  2. Thank you very much for this info. I luckily haven't blown any of my coil packs but i noticed increased consumption after the plugs change. I regaped the plugs yesterday. It wasn't to delicate at all. Now the consumption is back to normal around 32mpg. Cheers Igor
  3. before buying the new maf you can try washing it. it is done by removing it out from the car, washing with iso propanol or contacts cleaner based on iso propanol , drying it and installing it back. sometimes it can help. her is the guide: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/technical-guides/guide-how-clean-your-maf-sensor/50058/ good luck igor
  4. Hi m8, Thanks very much for the info. Have you got any contact number or so for that ,,one man band" Cheers Igor
  5. Thanks very much for that info. I really thought that we can't regap them. Did you try that procedure? Is it very sensitive job? Cheers Igor
  6. hi guys, i got my densos of some ebay store from the states. at that time i bought 12 of them 4 for myself and 8 for the relative and i payed them all inc postage around 6 quid each. that was far cheaper than anywhere in england at that time. i think that they are not colder that the original ones but i am not to sure. the tuner who remaped my octy John at DNA tuning recommended them. My map gives 1.25 bar peak and around 1 bar throughout the range. as far as i am aware we can not regap iridium plugs as we can do with copper ones. the electrode is very thin and can easly be broken. i think that some japanese parts stores should keep them in stock localy. igor
  7. Just did the same job yesterday. Lunch break is just fine for that. I used this pictorial guide and found it very useful MK4 1.8T spark plug change | DIYNexus.com I tightened them to 27nm as that was the minimum of my wrench. It seams like screw them gently in by free hand without the wrench and when it stops then ad around to 60 degrees further rotation with the wrench. I applied a very tiny amount of copper grease. got that from motorists discount for around 2 pounds. I also cleaned the maf and the panel filter at the same time. Oh yes..., the plugs i used were denso iridium ik 20. The ride seams to be a bit smoother. It's maybe due to filter and maf clean or just the psychological effect. Good luck with your work. Igor
  8. Hi John, I still haven't done anything yet. I am considering the more expenssive route which seams to be a safer bet. Koni fsd dumpers and standard vrs springs. Koni str.t kit was commented on seatcupra.net as not to bad piece of kit. Awesome Sarah has the kit on her fabia and she is perfectly happy with it. You can probably post the question in the Awesome gti section of the forum for more info and Sarah's thoughts. Cheers I.
  9. Thank you very much m8 Have you got any personal experience with them? Cheers
  10. Hi guys and gals, Careless skip driver damaged the right back corner of my octy while reversing into very narrow lane. The damage is not to bad but still has to be done properly. Does anyone know a decent bodyshop that can put the car back to factory finish in or near Reading? Any info will be highly appreciated Cheers Igor
  11. Welcome :-) You'll meet loads of great people here:thumbup: Igor
  12. cheers guys:thumbup:, i've been away for a week and haven't been able to log onto the forum. it seams that i'll go for standard springs + fsd's or a low milage set of standard vrs springs with dumpers together as a budget option. i noticed someone selling a brand new fsd set for mk4 golf gti on seatcupra.net at very nice price. Koni Fsd Shocks Leon Mk1 - SEAT Cupra.net it is the koni fsd kit with number 4019 from koni's webpage i understand that they would fit standard octy 1.8t springs but not vrs springs. what do you guys think about that? i am also considering the rear arb. what is better in your opinion whiteline or eibach for a bit more money? igor
  13. Very similar story here. Mine one has covered 70k and the gearbox is getting quite bad. It's very hard to engage the reverse and the third sometimes. There is no grinding noise from synchronizers or anything like that. It's just hard to get in the gear. it feels like pushing something heavy and then just jumps in as normal.
  14. Thanks for for your reply mate How much are you asking for them? What is the rough estimation of the mileage they covered? Cheers Igor
  15. Hi guys and gals, Does anyone have some experience with Koni STR.T and Sport suspensions kits. I am thinking of improving suspensions on my octy 1.8t 20v 2001. The budget is not really great so have to look for some not to expensive solutions. I was also considering getting some low mileage standard vrs springs and put FSD dumpers inside. Cheers Igor
  16. still no one commented koni's own spring kits :-) is it possible that nobody tried them?
  17. As far as i am aware the only aftermarket filter that doesn't need oiling at all is the DNX panel filter. I tried both k&n and DNX and decided to keep the dnx one. I have it for more than a year now. The car feels the same as with k&n and that is just a very tiny bit better than with vag oem filter. The only advantage for me is that i just pull it out time to time , wash it well according to the instructions and put it back. So that might be a solution for one that doesn't want any oiling. cheers igor
  18. In my very honest opinion you should put only good quality fully synthetic that meets the required VAG standards 502.00 for normal servicing every 10k or 503.00 for long life servicing. I think you wont make any mistake if you put 503.00 and change it every 10k. Take a look at opieoils website for makes like fuchs, motul, castrol. Cheers Igor
  19. can you please let me know the part numbers or the exact part name for those superpro engine mounts? and also, where did you buy them? cheers igor
  20. I usually do 32- 35 mpg combined consumption with remapped 1.8 20v turbo elegance ( which is more or less the same car)
  21. for tiny bit more money you can have DNA Tuning remap which is really good in my opinion. i have it for quite a while and everything is great.
  22. welcome to briskoda! i don't know your area? if you're within southeast/ Berkshire, i know the place at reading that would do complete job including water pump for around 250 pounds with one year warranty place is called autotechnik in hurst berkshire. i also know another great independent garage in stratford called mj tech. the second is is a top notch in my opinion. if any of those can help you just ask for contact details and i'll post them. i dont have their business cards with me at this moment, but i'll easily find them at home. cheers igor
  23. Hi there, I went for DNA tuning from Stratford upon Avon. It is not really in Berkshire area but IMHO it's definitely worth a trip. Anyway my journey from reading to Stratford was very pleasant and the one back home was amazing . I couldn't belive how fast my Octy was:thumbup: My car is now totally different animal :-) John @DNA is top bloke and really knows his stuff. He is very friendly and patient to explain every single question ( some of them were most likely stupid) i asked. Great coffee is just another nice part of the service . After 2 months and 3000 miles I haven't had any problem. It pulls like train. In third gear it pulls like it was pulling in second before the remap. Fuel economy is just like it was before, around 32MPG. Even with five people in the car it doesn't have any hesitation when i push the pedal. That's not all. Price was also great. At the time when i did it, the price was 225 pounds only. I think those were the best 225pounds i ever spent in my life. Cheers Igor
  24. you wont regret. i really think that the remap was the best 225 pounds i have ever spent:thumbup:
  25. it does have bigger turbo type ko4. our cars octy 1.8t vrs and elegance both have smaller ko3s turbo chargers. and i think that tt 225 cars have a bit different pistons and some other engine components. cheers:thumbup:
