  1. Just a few days ago i was recommend by opieoils ( simon and guy ) to put silkolene silktran syn s in mu octy 1.8t. that's fullly synthetic 75w-90. the change will take place tomorow morning and i can report my first impressions with that oil in the afternoon. i've got very good experience with motul motyl gear 75w-90 gear oils in my former cars alfa romeo 145 and toyota avensis. cheers igor
  2. Any advice on where to buy it? How much does it cost aprox? How dificult and how risky it is to re-flash the ecu? cheers:thumbup:
  3. I installed it with no probs. Seams to be working fine. I didn't notice any power boost but the engine runs smoother as the old oem filter was really dirty. It's totaly dry and it can be washed with water and mild soap according to the manual. It has my recommendation.
  4. the word was ,,k-n-o-b" and i have no idea why it is scrambled
  5. cheers tom! so i can buy one together with the gaitor and it should fit directly to octy's plastic plate without any cuting and simmilar modifications. where can i find that small jubilee clip to replace existing metal circlip type thing that clamps the gearkn0b to the gear stick. is that the only thing that clamps the gear kn0b to the stick?
  6. hi guys, does anybody have some suggestion about gear **** replacement for my octy 1.8t elegance 2001? the factory fitted one is not tight and it rotates around the axes for certrain angle. in addition to this problem it looks quite poor. i would like to find some better looking direct replacement **** together with the leather gaitor to fit instead of this one. probably some vw's, seat's **** or octy vrs **** would fit. i found quite wide choice on awsome gti website but i am not sure about compatibility. thanks for any information. cheers:thumbup:
  7. i see that many guys are using 0w-30. isn't it to thin for the remapped octy 1.8t? i guess it has great flowing properties. did anybody try motul x-cess 8100 5w-40? i've got very good experience with that oil in my former car toyota avensis vvt-i.
  8. does anybody have experience with neuspeed lower temp thermostat and fan switch? i just took notice on these two parts from awsome gti web page. it says that those are set to 82 degrees compared to 87 or 90 for standard ones. is it better to use those in remapped octy 1.8t? is there a need for something like this at all with 1.8t? cheers
  9. cheers for very quick reply. i don't expect any significant performance improvement, but just want to put something better than usual paper filter in my car. it's quite cheap as well around 30 quid and dnx says that it doesn't need any oil . i heard from many golf gti 1.8t owners about maf sensor problems with k&n panels probably due to it's cleaning oil. that's why i was thinking about this one. i'll buy it
  10. Does anybody use or have used dnx panel replacement filters? Could it be any good for octy? I am trying to find the most appropriate one for my octy 1.8t and i just took notice that this is the one that doesn't use any oil (unlike k&n, pipercross, cotton...) here are some links http://www.dnxperformance.com/upload/documents/Performance_Air_Filters.pdf DNX Skoda Octavia 1.8 T 35643- 148BHP Rectangular Panel Air filter (5541007)
  11. I agree that 3k is quite tight budget for good diesel octy. I recently bought an octy 1.8t elegance 2001/y-reg. 59k miles , fsh, in excellent condition for 3300. It was a real bargain compared to other octys on autotrader, ebay motors, loot... I was looking for it around 2 months and i havent seen even one good diesel powered octy for that kind of price.:(
  12. Many thanks for your quick replies and usefull links:thumbup:
  13. Cheers guys for very quick replies. I was thinking of something simmilar from opie oils website Motul 8100 x-cess 5 w40 , Mobil 1 0 w40 or castrol edge 0 w40. full synthetics. I hope those would be just fine for turbo engine. Did anybody notice any difference in practice between 5 ( or 0) w40 and 5 (or 0) w30?
  14. Hi guys, I am very new to this forum and skoda cars as well. I would like to hear your opinions and experiences with motor oils for octy 1.8 turbo.
  15. does anybody have some personal experience with some garages/ mechanics in reading / berkshire area? i found a lot of them on the web, but i would like to hear some personal experience. i am generaly looking for some experienced mechanic with not to high labor charge. btw, what parts supplier can you recommend for good quality and low prices?
  16. cheers for very fast recommendation. i am in reading and newbury area is not to far away. did you try some of those mentioned garages with your car?
  17. Hi everyone, I just bought a second hand 2001 y reg. Octy 1.8t 20v elegance . 59k, full main dealer history, very good condition for 3300 pounds. I hope it wasn't overpriced. The car runs great but i don't want to test it's real capacities until i'll have it serviced. As the timing belt has never been replaced I will definitly need to do so asap. Can somebody please recommend me some trustworthy garage or mechanic in wider reading area to do this job and some regular service for my car. I am looking for some trustworthy tuner as well to perform software remap for me. Are there any other usual parts in need of replacement in addition to cam belt kit and water pump at 60k? what part supplier would you recommend ? what brand would you recommend for air filter replacement k&n or something else? what oil would you recommend me taking in account that the car will be remapped? i was thinking of motul 8100 x-cess 5w40 or mobil 1 0w40? Many thanks for any info.
