Skoda Enyaq
Well, from what I’ve seen so far, it gets my vote. as regards range, 300 is more than adequate (200 is entirely workable) for me and 99% of drivers when you think about how far you travel without stopping. There are of course exceptions but the huge majority of folk would be OK with that range IF you have home charging facilities. great range debate video here by EVM. just need the books to open now for the deposit..

Want to see a car go through a pro valet session?
Although not my Skoda, we recently had our Zoe go through a pro valet session, 5 hours of polishing, then a SiStal silicon coating applied. It’s exactly the process my Superb “BOF” went through over a year ago. it still looks great! anyhow, I made a video of the process and have just released it on y Wolfieswheels channel if you’re interested. It includes info about the 2 bucket method of car washing. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s not a monetised channel, just something I do for a bit of fun. Feel free to subscribe if you like it, the more subscribers I have the higher the chance of persuading dealers to let me have loan cars to add reviews of to the channel! link is here

What would you change on your S3?
As mentioned in my review elsewhere in this forum, I really struggle to find things I don’t like / would change on my Superb. 1) the DCC not holding the last position is definitely on the list 2)the standard P7 tyres are definitely not good (but entirely within my power to change ) 3)it’s a shame the steering column adjustment isn’t electric too and tied into the memory seat position. Not a massive problem as it’s only myself and SWMBO who drive but it would be cool to have the steering wheel adjust automatically in conjunction with the seat. 4) (the biggie) Have an electric motor with 150 bhp instead of the Diesel engine, with a battery giving a 300 mile real world range and minimum 100 KWh recharge speed capability on DC chargers. all the other aspects of the car - including the stop start that cuts out before you stop - are things that don’t bother me, although I can see how the S S system could annoy people.

What have you done to your Superb III today?
@cardo here’s hoping you have sorted out the economy for your 150. We run our car (same as your engine) in Individual mode set so that the suspension and steering are “normal” and engine/ gears “Eco”. Rarely do we see less than 50 mpg, usually when we use the car for short runs (not often). Longer runs definitely high 50s to low 60s, without really trying (scoring 85 on the green leaf score). would be interested hearing if your realignment has had the desired effect. Came back from near Stranraer a few days ago, got this - hopefully you’ll be seeing the same soon👍🏻

BOF the Skoda - what do I really think of the Superb?
With my particularly problematic Range Rover, it got to the stage where the workshop manager would collect the car on his way to work and leave me with his company Discovery, and drop my car off when it had received the latest fix..I got to know Simon pretty well! why did I keep going back for more punishment ? I guess it is because when everything is working, they are great. But sadly you spend all your time waiting for the next inevitable fail. Which is why I sold the car I replaced the rejected one with - it never had a problem but I never fully trusted it and so after a year of owning it I PXd it for the Superb and some money back to me..and have been much happier since! shame @IJWS15 that you have had a couple of issues with the latest car, fortunately issues with the Superb seem to be the exception rather than the rule.

BOF the Skoda - what do I really think of the Superb?
😂 Yes it’s not easy to admit to such an expensive mistake.. the first 700 miles were fantastic, thereafter a nightmare. 9 trips in 3 months to have various fixes (or not fixes) led to the first ever vehicle I had to reject... I think if you get a good one, they are great. But a troublesome one will never be right. Certainly seems to be the case on the RR forum I used to frequent.

Thanks @digifish thanks for info on tec flow too - having spent too long as one of Range Rovers unwitting Beta testers I’m just glad to have stuff that works 🙄

New iPhone SE issues
Good info @El Dingo. It’s the sort of stuff nobody tells you until you’ve bought the new bit of kit! I’ll stick with my iPhone 6 for a bit longer!

BOF the Skoda - what do I really think of the Superb?
I’ve owned my Superb Estate (called BOF) for 16 months now, and have put together a YouTube review of what I really think of the car after owning it/using it over that period. if you’re interested then please feel free to click the link below. It’s not a monetised channel, it’s just something I do for a bit of fun..

Skoda Superb - my YouTube review

Requirements for active lane assist
Just goes to show we’re all different 🙂 my L&K has it fitted, used it once and found it very intrusive on normal roads, switched it off and that’s how it’s stayed for the past 16 months. I’m not against these sort of aids, I use the ACC an awful lot, great in 30 and 40 limits, it’s just that I don’t like the Lane Keep Assist. Hope you manage to sort it 👍🏻

Zoe ZE50 one month on
@wyx087 I think the rapid charger should be standard fit too... We got the car on PCP (as we normally do) and although the CCS was a £700 option, based on the same deposit and repayment period, the monthly payment was absolutely identical. It did make ticking that box a bit easier! This is because Renault give a higher residual value to the CCS version so they see to think that the absence of CCS will be an issue on the used car market to come - despite the 22AC ability of the Zoe. I do think the charging network is improving in number of post terms and hope it will continue to so for the foreseeable! @Roottoot you’re not kidding about running costs - I mentioned one example in the video but today we had a 140 mile motorway round trip in the car, driving between 60 and 75 (mainly 65). Swmbo got 5.2 MPkWh so in 140 miles we used 26 kW of electric, which we pay 14.7p per kW for at present. So the cost was £3.95 .....in fact it was less as some of the charge was in the car from free vend the other day.. octopus off peak is 5p per kW so it could have been as cheap as £1.34! can’t wait for the Enyaq 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Zoe ZE50 one month on
Following on from the first impressions video, I’ve now made one one month in when we’ve had a chance to get to grips with it a bit more (the first film was made on the day we picked it up) if you’re a Zoe fanboi you might not like some of the comments - I’ve had some flack on an EV site already - but stick with it and you’ll see what I really think.. Includes a rant about public charging, me getting egg on my face when I film a super smooth charge making my previous comments seem crass, 0-60 dash, and general driving impressions.

Upper Boot Floor Retrofit?
The day I picked my car up there was a real kerfuffle in the showroom. a repeat business customer had come to pick up his new Superb, which should have been ordered with the flat floor. Whether the order was cocked up, or it was missed in the factory I don’t know. Much of the discussion was being held behind closed doors. i asked my sales guy why it was such a problem, can’t they just get one and fit it and he said “no it can’t be done”. the person with the mis-specc’d car refused to accept it, even with some financial compensation. He left in his old car. The flat floor was important to him as his wife was a wheelchair user and neither were in the first flush of youth. The lip you get if you don’t have the flat floor would have made it difficult if not impossible for him to get the chair out of the boot. so I think it really can’t be done as opposed to can be done at a price. (Obviously anything can be done at a price but you know what I mean)

MY21 Wireless CarPlay, more power, new steering wheel
@MiniEggs having had a quick look at your link, it looks like maybe a full electric version is coming too? “und zusätzlicher E-Maschine (Systemleistung 218 PS) kommen. “ or has Google Translator let me down (it comes out as “E Machine” - is this what Germany uses for BEV? if so, for me this is a very exciting development

Zoe ZE50 First Impressions
Very interested to know what you got in the end then, @greenstripe ? I know what you mean about the seating position, you do feel that you’re sat on top of the battery (which you are). Felt very similar to the Fiat 500 we have had a few cars ago, not ideal but something we can live with.

Zoe ZE50 First Impressions
We seem to have been waiting ages, and today was the day that the new Zoe was collected - our first BEV ownership. We ordered on 11 Feb and with CV 19 causing all sorts of worldwide difficulties, picking up the car today isn’t that bad really. The dealer called us in yesterday to complete the paperwork which meant that handover today was completed in around 15 minutes. Initial impressions are that the build quality is as good (bad) as expected, but the overall enjoyment of driving and features etc are better than expected. I put together a video of first impressions if anyone wants to take a look

Help needed with microphone please!
@Lady Elanore thank you so much for your helpful pointers. The professionals make this stuff look so easy, it’s only when you have a go yourself you realise how hard it all is! I’ve tried out mounting the mic on the seatbelt today, seemed to be OK but we were in Swmbo’s car which is very quiet..(I’ll post a link to that video in the Electric Cars section). Also tried turning the mic down a bit on input and boosting it in post, the waveform track definitely shows less peaking (shows as yellow then red on IMovie) so have been able to increase the volume a bit in editing as opposed to having the reduce the volume but still being left with distortion. It’s all a massive learning curve for me, one which I’m enjoying immensely and as I said, your help and input (along with others) is proving invaluable!

Help needed with microphone please!
Thanks @Aspman I posted the problem on Faceache to see if anyone had friends of friends who could help (knowing my immediate FB friends probably wouldn’t know themselves). the one recommendation for microphone that came back is exactly the one you suggested....so the weight of argument seems to be that I shouldn’t have tried to save a few quid by buying cheap first time. Others have suggested new cameras which have better built in mics, the DJI Osmo Action Cam being one suggestion. But at £230 before you buy the add ons like mounts etc I think I will get the Rode microphone first. Thanks again for your input, much appreciated.

Help needed with microphone please!
So as an update, I did some experiments today using the gear I currently have. I worry that my YouTubing is just a Covid Cabinfever reaction so don’t want to spend much money trying to indulge myself! anyhow, I think the outcome of the experiments will be that I should film on either the iPhone 6 or my Nextbase dashcam, and record the sound on the iPhone using the Apple earbud type mic that Apple supply. Who’d have thought it - Apple mic working better with Apple stuff than a £15 cheap mic 😂😂 results of experiments are on this video.

Help needed with microphone please!
Ok, following the suggestion of using a headset mic, I had a go earlier. Interestingly someone on Faceache suggested the same thing. Results are as per the attached, but to save viewing it didn’t really work. The next thing to try is to see if the iPhone is vibrating too much in the holder - I have a solution for that but can’t try it until tomorrow at the earliest. So other suggestions would still be gratefully received !
