Radiator noise when shutting engine down.
Yes it may well clear out the DPF, no need to rag it just go a decent distance. Ideally 10 miles to get engine at full temperature then 10 or more minutes with the engine turning @ decent revs think 2K for 10 or more minutes, using a lower gear than normal if needed to enable that. I personally only do that when I know I've interrupted the regen a few times , if you ignore it then in time the DPF warning light will come on . Ignore that & car will go into limp mode in which case a forced regen @ a garage will be needed .

Radiator noise when shutting engine down.
Is the car a diesel and have you had it long ? ..it might be that you normally do longish trips and just lately you've been doing short trips.

Radiator noise when shutting engine down.
That sounds very much like the radiator fan running. I'm guessing that it's a diesel , in which case you have by stopping the engine interrupted a regen of the diesel particulate filter ( DPF ). Near the top of this page is a sticky titled my new diesel smells of burning rubber and/or the fan stays on, all will be explained. As for repairs in Nottingham I would avoid the main dealer @ Daybrook . I do know of a good independent specialist @ stapleford . autotechz .. Ps i meant to say that it's perfectly normal & nothing to worry about.

Timing belt
The problem is the water pump only . Read the sticky at the top of this page & you will see water pumps failing have been a problem for some time, hopefully any replacement pump fitted will be the later, modified pump.

Timing belt
It probably had the dreaded water pump problem , it makes sense at that age & mileage to change the belt whilst replacing the water pump.

Skoda Octavia MK3 Estate 1.6 or 2.0 Diesel
paulski , is the mpg you quote actual as in real life & accurate or mpg according to the trip computer.

Skoda Octavia MK3 Estate 1.6 or 2.0 Diesel
Having had both I would go for a 2.0 , The 1.6 is good but the 2.0 is far far better ,amongst other things the 2.0 is far more relaxed to drive and as a result is actually better on fuel consumption than the 1.6 . One thing to consider is road tax as anything registered after April 2017 is liable to the higher price .

Used 2018 Octavia estate - no SH
Presuming that the 1.4 TDI is the same as the1.6 and 2.0 TDI , if it's on variable service then oil change is @ 20K miles or 2 years ..
-
Quick service question
At 3 years it's due a brake fluid change and at 40K miles it's due a DSG oil change , seems to me they are quoting for both of them to be done even though it's a bit early for DSG oil change.

Towing with an Octavia?
hultum 123 who asked the question says it has got manoeuvre braking .. I cant quote him as its on the previous page. I have just noticed that hultum123 has posted/hijacked a thread in the MK11 section but has a MK111 scout , hence your confuzzlement .

Towing with an Octavia?
It's intended to prevent you reversing into anything, wall/wheelie bin ETC, it uses i presume the reversing sensors.

Towing with an Octavia?
I would try switching manoeuvre braking off , worked for me.

Headlight range control
The 1st time the fault appeared in the dark while reversing off the drive through a tight squeeze i manually switched lights on & didn't notice a self test or lack of. Last night in the dark switched ignition on & started engine DRL lit up as usual , manually switched headlights on & no self test tried a few times during the night having switched engine off . I thought that they self test every time you get in the car in the dark & switch lights on . Re the warranty i bought the car 10/10/19 car first registered 10/4/17 on buying the car dealer added 6 months to original warranty as it were so giving me 12 months from purchase . I had the car serviced @ a different branch of same dealer 3 weeks ago I've had a disagreement with dealer that serviced it regarding the service so sad to say there is no goodwill . I think the chance of getting it sorted as a goodwill gesture is very slim so I'm not even going to try.

Headlight range control
Yes its happened again , no warnings but headlights are no longer self testing. I switch them on & they just sit there as it were , the light pattern on the garage door and road looks normal , I've been down a unlit road passed plenty of cars going other way & no one flashed me . but it's an issue as presumably if i had anything heavy in back of car the headlights will be pointing at the clouds. I will take it to local garage soon & have it checked out. Why did the problem first occur just 2 days after warranty expired ? .

Ambition or Elegance?
Do you mean ambient ?... No such thing as a Octavia ambition that I know of ..

Towing with an Octavia?
I have manoeuvre braking on my estate, i can reverse in a straight( ish ) line no problem i can bend it no problem until it gets to 45-50 degrees and it then bangs the brakes on .

Headlight range control
Hi ScoutCJB Thanks for that Yes they are LED , I've been out tonight & everything is working fine no fault indication switched headlights on and they did the usual up/down routine the light pattern on the road is normal so all is good for now at least ,I don't have any diagnostics so cant check for anything.

Advantages of a dealer service
I doubt it very much, the little experience I've had of main dealers is they do the minimum required and no more.

Headlight range control
So I've jumped in the car to go shopping , switched the headlights on & get a warning on maxidot check drivers dipped beam, I can see from reflection off garage door they are both lit , by the time I've reversed off the drive it has changed to the message headlight range control with yellow triangle below it. Its a new 1 on me, can anyone shed a light on it ? ( pardon the pun ) I switched ignition off then back on & warning cleared . mk 3 facelift SEL.

Fan still running after engine off
it all depends on the sort of journey you are doing, lots of shortish trips with not many revs on that will happen .. if you routinely do trips of 10 or more miles most of it done with engine revving @ 1500 - 2000 or more rpm it may never happen . like I said earlier you can drive like miss daisy for 1 hour & the filter wont get hot enough, you need to remember the higher the rpm the hotter the exhaust gases.
-
Fan still running after engine off
One thing I forgot to mention is RPM @ tickover , when a regen is happening you will find that the revs @ idle are 1000 rather than the usual 850-900 it will feel almost as though the throttle has partially stuck open.
-
Fan still running after engine off
You don't get a warning light come on until the DPF is very clogged, it's then time for an Italian tune up , ignore that & the car is likely to go into limp mode. you can drive like miss daisy for 1 hour & the filter wont get hot enough .
-
Fan still running after engine off
sounds to me like a regen that has been interrupted. regen is a regeneration on the DPF ( Diesel Particle Filter ) long story short is the particulates ( soot ) is burnt & turned to ash , the filter needs to get vey hot for that to happen. https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/emissions/diesel-particulate-filters/ Also have a look @ the thread that Iway has shown.

Two big dogs in the estate?
I have 2 Labradors in the back of my Octavia estate , while its a little bit snug I've never heard them complain.
