  1. There will be a table online somewhere, just gotta search for it, sure I found it once or someone else knows how much oil consumption is allowed - try using the search function in this forum Sorry I can't be of any more use, I don't believe your oil consumption is overly excessive though, just a little annoying. I found since removing the DPF/remap that my oil consumption has dropped, probably due to lower temperatures as the car isn't performing DPF regenerations
  2. I think oil consumption on these is particularly high anyway. Mine drinks oil. 112k, CR184 also with DPF removed and remapped. Not quite 1L/1500km but close enough.. think that's still within VW tolerances. Don't call them oil burners for nothing!
  3. Just bought some more discs, juratec ones. Spoke to a couple of different people and they're basically saying yeah, it's automatic and it's gonna happen. It does get driven hard, often with heavy loads in it. Oh well! Another expense to add to the new dual mass flywheel! Thanks for the responses guys.
  4. Mk3 VRS TDI DSG Estate. This will be the 3rd set of front brake discs I've gone through due to warping. I always clean the mating faces correctly and check for any inconsistency on the inner faces of the discs. I've now tried 3 different manufacturers, I was gonna try MTEC as I've got some of their discs on my Saxo but doubt they'll be any different.. Anyone else had this problem? Is it just because its an auto and I'm always holding the brake on the hills? Any potential remedies? Cheers
  5. Believe it or not there's no smoke, even when booting it! It is an MOT failure, but luckily I have a friendly MOT tester that also sorts my straight piped Saxo VTS..
  6. If the brake discs were warped you'd feel it squirreling and shaking under braking - I know this because I've warped 2 sets in 40k miles.... Therefore I think you can rule the brakes out. You checked all the bushes for the control arms up front? Tracking rods in good nick?
  7. Simple answer, buy a downpipe and remove the DPF 😈
  8. I've just installed a Darkside Development DPF straight through kit, remapped by West Yorkshire Tuning. It's juddering at around 2100-2400rpm
  9. Hey all, My Octavia just clocked 110k and the DPF is now doing my head in. It's also eating oil due to higher engine temps. It's regenerating pretty much constantly (oil Ash residue is at 65%) so I've got a darkside DPF replacement downpipe/EGR removal kit. It's the CUNA / charge cooler engine. Currently running a DTUK box but this will be coming off, being replaced with an ECU/DSG remap from a trusted friend. Planning on about 6-8 hours for the replacement as apparently its a nightmare, just wondered if anyone has any tips, tricks or pointers for anything else I should be doing/checking whilst the subframe is off/lowered and I'm in the back of the engine? Car will also be getting an oil change and DSG service at the same time. So yeah, if you've got the same kit or done something similar, let me know! Cheers, Joe
  10. For the sake of £9.50 (what admiral charge me) - I would declare changing the colour of the seatbelts and the carpet.
  11. My figures are correct ta, £450 might get you a remap and a printout, but having your car *genuinely custom mapped* requires more hours than a flash map and a rolling road printout. I'm not doubting your power has increased, neither am I doubting people with tuning boxes has. My original and ONLY point is that a remap and a printout from a rolling road is NOT a custom remap.
  12. What do you think a remap is? That's conning the ECU, except you have no control over it and can't turn it off at the touch of a button! The point is, be prepared to pay £1000+ for actual rolling Road time and a genuine CUSTOM map. A tuning box will give you what a flash map will, but with the added bonus of being able to fine tune it a minimum of 28 times. Thus, in theory, 28 different maps. All of which you can monitor and figure out the best combination if you have 2 neurons interconnected and a smartphone Also, I declared my tuning box, a DTUK one and it cost me £9 extra on my premium.. Don't understand the hate really!
  13. I'm a returning customer at darkside, its just up the road from me, the video you linked is not a CR184 engine though. Also, darkside don't individually rolling road map engines for £400..
  14. (£400 as I got the version with the app, which is updated over the air and has a host of features)
  15. I've got a 184 diesel. I also have a DTUK CRD3+ tuning box. It cost me £400 and the difference is night and day. Seems much faster, power is available more readily and economy has improved. Had this just over a year now and would well recommend them. Sod paying £60-400 for a standard flash map. You'd be spending £1000+ for anything truly custom - whats the point?
  16. Nah, upon checking the previous order details they were Eicher ones!
  17. To follow up - I stripped the front calipers and the runners were fine, weren't sticking at all. Replaced with pagid disks and pads and heavily sanded the mating face of the hub/disk and wallah! No more shuddering brakes! Now to find an M14 spline bit to do the rears.
  18. If you're doing 15k miles a year, are on a budget and concerned about fuel, why not get a diesel?
  19. Love the thread, got a question for you. Where did you get the grooved pagid discs? Mine are warped and looking for some decent replacements. Cheers!
  20. Cheers for the replies, I'll try and rule them out.. The hub faces were cleaned with a wire brush, greased and mounted correctly by yours truly The pistons in the calipers were a little sticky but were pushed back okay - If these were not done correctly and were to blame - surely it would have been noticeable instantly? The car had it's MOT last month and I was underneath the car with the mechanic who is a friend, all bushings looked ship shape The only thing I can think to add is that on the odd occasion when the car is cold & travelling at low speeds, there is a knock coming from the front brakes..
  21. Hello, As the title depicts, I fitted new Pagid discs bought here, and similar pads to the car in July. Within 3 months they were oscillating under breaking, and giving wobble. This hasnt gone away, the pads are wearing evenly and I'm a bit dissapointed.. Are there any better discs out there I can choose from? I've had a search on the forum but couldn't find any specific posts about warping so it might not be a common problem. I drove the car sensibly for a could couple of hundred miles before giving it some beans - is it a case of harsh driving?! Cheers, Joe
