  1. I have just got a superb estate. There is the torch in boot that acts as a light, and 2 high up on the tailgate. It all makes the boot area rather dark for the size! Has anyone changed the bulbs to something brigher? Any recommendations.
  2. Superb locks boot on closing - can it be disabled? At some put I will put the keys in and shut the lid! Rather lock with the remote.
  3. Octavia (with the 2.0TDI EA288) engine should be the same as the superb??? The official skoda advice is 210,000km without time limit. This is reduced to 120,000 in dust rich countries (which they specify which countries) again without time limit. The exception is Russia, where they specify inspection (maybe not replace) every 60,000 KM or 4 Years. No mention on the UK.
  4. Information so far on the EA288 engine, is that usual interval is 210,000km (no age limit), or 120,000km in dust rich countries. This query with Audi is interesting https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/a-new-thread-about-the-cambelt-service-question.403871/
  5. I believe I read that it was longer in Germany, but I never proved it. Ill have a search on some German VAG forums. Some other manufactuers (Ford / PSA) now run 10 years / 100,000 miles on a cambelt?
  6. Looking at the options, but a little confused. If I understand correctly with Adaptive Cruise. Set to max speed, if vehicle in front slows the car slows (changing gear on DSG). What happens if car in front comes to stop? Do all superbs have city emergency brake. Is this part of Front assist or something else? How does front assist work in the real world (ive read the manual and looked at you tube but it doesnt make much sense. When does Front assist stop / city emergency start - are they the same thing?). Does this vary depending if you have front parking sensors installed? Lastly Blind Spot Detection (without lane assist) - Does Blind spot include rear traffic alert or is this something else? How does this all work in the real world?
  7. Also, cars with SCR need less EGR - which produces less particulate matter, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide - i.e less particles for the DFP to have to deal with. The cost of Adblue, should be offset by less diesel used for regen.
  8. To answer my own question. This article is useful https://www.fleetowner.com/fleet-management/article/21666958/scr-or-egr
  9. Need to replace the plates on my Superb Estate. What style plates do you all use? ABS / Aluminium / Pressed? Text Style: Regular / Carbon / 3D Text / 3D Gel / 4D Lazer All are UK Road Legal Anyone use a surround (like on German styles)
  10. Any noticeable differences in performance? Economy, or DFP regen cycles? Are they manuals or DSG (DSG would have a different box)
  11. Does this affect all model years? Is there any change to newer pumps?
  12. Just bought a new superb. Dealer provided copy of Digital Service Book (Service History Certificate). It shows, Car on "Flexible". Inspection Service Nov 19 on 20,000 miles, and then another Inspection Service in Nov 20, at 40,000 Miles. In addition, shows a Used Car MPC, and Adblue Topup. The screen on the car reports, Inspection in 19900 miles / 349 days, and Oil Change Service in 6300 miles / 264 days. If the Inspection was done in Nov (which I assume included a oil change) , then why would it show 6300 miles to run? What is the difference between an "inspection" and Oil Change Service as reported on the car infotainment? Dealers seem to refer to Oil and Inspection, and Extended Scope? I have logged into Erwin, put in the VIN, but it only shows an Delivery Inspection (not shown the the dealers copy), and and a "Inspection with Oil Change" in Nov 19. The dealer claims the Digital Book is up to day (and send a copy), any reason this doesnt show on ErWIn? I understand if I reset service using the dashboard buttons it goes to Fixed inteval. If service is carried out by an independant, can it be kept on Flexible using VCDS/ VCP etc
  13. Do we have a list of VAG/Skoda Independant Mechanics in this forum? Any recommendations for anyone in the West Mids?
  14. Have a 2009 Yeti 2.0 (Engine CFHA), that sometimes (couple of time a week?) has little power and doesnt want to drive above 30mph. There are no engine management lights. I have scanned with Carista, and get 00470 Databus in single wire, 04875 Manufacturer specific code, and P261A (Coolant Pump B control circuit open). If I turn off and restart it behaves normally (100% of the time) Previously, there was an engine management light displayed, Coolant pump B was change (but maybe not a VW official part) and all was well. Any ideas what to check for? Im suspecting Coolant Pump B again.

  16. I wonder is it has any effect on DPF regeneration though. The SCR is injected AFTER the DPF to reduce emissions. However I believe the engine can run with less EGR when it has adblue fitted, as it isnt reliant on high EGR to control the emissions alone. How this affects regen, or dpf life I dont know?
  17. I have just noticed that the dealers have put the service pricing up for 2021. Servicing and extended scope by a £1 or so, but additionals such as DSG up 7.5%, and Cambelt by 11%.
  18. I assumed all 2.0tdi 150 used adblue and meet EU6 standard I have now read that MY 16/17 are not using adblue but still meet EU6? Is this correct? If they meet the same standard and lower tax, why adblue? Do newer models have lower Emissions? Does the adblue effect mpg (there is an extra cost for adblue). Any reliability issues with adblue, and or benefits/issues with dpf of addblue/without?
  19. Is 3v5 an engine code?. I believe TSI petrols have chain, TDI Diesels belt.
  20. Thanks, You are quite right the info, is very confusing! I have a 2018, 2.0TDI which seems that new would have "509" when new which would be "0w-20", but recommended for change is "5w-30" 507.00 ?? The specs for 509, seem to say that it is not backward compatible so cannot be used instead of 507 - 5w30 is the only correct oil to use for change?
  21. Yes, I usually perform by own servicing on my other cars so able to check items myself on a regular basis as required. Engine is 2.0TDI - Engine Code DFGA I got the info about oil from VW direct. Is the LongLife regime more expensive than the more traditional Time and Distance regime? No, the basic service cost hasn’t changed, but because you need fewer services, you will save money. However, LongLife oil is more expensive than conventional oil. So, if you choose the LongLife regime, there will be a corresponding increase in the cost of the oil replaced during a service. Importantly this increased cost must be seen in context. Over a period, the reduced number of services means that the cost of ownership nearly always comes down. Your Retailer has a calculation that can illustrate the likely savings you will make on both the maintenance of your vehicle and the fuel bill Although it seems that all oil is "507 00" for Diesels (not 509), so the oil is the same for all regimes
  22. Anyone used VCP (VAG CAN PRO), how does it compare to VCDS?
  23. Fixed is 10,000 miles or 12 months. Variable is 9000 miles/12 months to 20000miles/2 years depending on use. The argument against running variable seems to be that it requires "special" oil which costs more - and so there is a point where Fixed may be cheaper. Outside the dealer network there is probably little difference in oil cost. Looks like best option is to run longlife on variable, and complete early if you want to. Resetting the indicator without VCDS will put it back into fixed mode. How many of you use fixed / variable mode? Useful info I have found about Longlife servicing / logic Longlife_servicing.pdf SSP_224.pdf
  24. VCDS should be able to put into longlife mode. Have a look at page 56 http://www.ross-tech.net/VCDS/download/manual/VCDS-Printable-Manual-2015.pdf Seems to be a preset option.
  25. Thanks James, Great Stuff. Is the oil change fixed interval (or does it run variable depending on driving style) as some of the Mercedes did? So you mean change glowplugs - as its a diesel no sparkplugs? It is a 7 speed DSG - so I think it might be a DQ381? As you say, it seems to say fluid only no filter. Ive been told that it is 80k service interval recommended by Skoda?? but there is conflicting info around.. Dont think there is a active front diff, and I dont have all wheel drive. Should we have a cambelt in there somewhere? Does it need a waterpump So looking at Skoda fixed servicing it seems to be £184 every year, and "extended scope" every other year -is this just more inspection/labour? Then add on DSG/Pollen/Brakes/air filter/brake fluid as extras.
