  1. I agree. The fogs are like French headlights, many a lower spec / older car is going around with LEDs whilst the superb still has oil lights! In the UK the MOT test does not allowed LED to be used where Halogen was original (although some MOT testers will pass without an issue as long as beam pattern is ok). Problem really seems to come from "cheaper" chinese LED bulbs that have no beam pattern. In other countries LED bulbs are now starting to be permitted. Osram make a Nightbreaker LED that has german TUV approval, the Phillips LED bulbs also claim to give the correct beam pattern with reflectors. If you stick to Phillips / Osram and find a suitable MOT tester you should be ok. .....
  2. Gone for Textar on the Rears, and TRW on the fronts as these were cheaper than TRW or Textar all round. Closer examination of the front show they are VAG pads (made by TRW) so kept with the same. Textar on rear as cheaper than TRW. Cost £53.50 for front and back for "branded" pads and will fit myself as usual. Quote for replacement (unknown pads) between £150 and £250.
  3. Just about to order my pads. Eicher is the budget option from ECP. Im note sure about quality, a lot of people seem to avoid as it is the "budget" option. However these are made by TMD Friction (who also produce Pagid, Mintex, Textar - so I am not sure how these 4 differ!) I can get a decent price on Textar on the rears, but fronts are relatively expensive so considering Jurid, or (more likely) TRW. All brand seem to be OE producers for certain manufacturers. Anyone used any of these brand? Reasonable mid range choice or avoid?
  4. Can anyone help me out with the correct brake fluid for a MKIII Superb. Some sites say that a "ESP" fluid is required to be compatable with ABS etc, other recommend a DOT 5.1 (which is comptable - DOT 5) Manual says, Specification - the brake fluid must comply with VW 501 14 standard (this standard meets the requirements of FMVSS 116 DOT4). If I look for the VW standard, I only seem to get VW fluid. Would something like Mannol Brake Clutch Fluid DOT4 SAE J 1703 FMVSS 116 DOT 4 be suitable (£7 delivered ebay) Alternatives seem to be Comma DOT 4 ESP Brake Fluid 1L from Halfords / £10.50 Ive tried to google, but still unclear. What are others using? This is helpful though https://www.apecbraking.co.uk/Apec/media/product-bulletins/Brake-Fluid-FAQs.pdf
  5. Im about to change the pads on my Superb 2018. Done my own brake before on previous cars (inc Skoda), but this is my first time with a car with EPB I have the diagnostic tool to wind back the EPB. Do I just run diag to wind the parking brake back, and then push the pistons back (not wind in as usual?). Do both sides? Do I need to reset the EPB after changing the pads or will it self adjust? Do I need any special tools? I think the caliper pin might be TX45? Anything else I need? I might do the fronts as well, while Im at it, anything unusual on the superb? (what tools are needed for the front?). Do the pads come with sensor, or is it separate?
  6. Anyone used vcds to change throttle response? (2018, 150ps 2.0tdi) There seems to be 2 settings 'Incremental: controlled over time' to 'Direct: controlled over threshold value' Some sites also mention a change in long coding. In Controller 01- Engine, 07 - Coding Byte 0, Bit 0-2, Change from Škoda (01) to AUDI (02) Anyone done this? What does it actually change? Any differences?
  7. See my post above about Twenty20 Hybrid. I would stick to them over Osrams night breakers (on my previous car). If you dont mind a "warmer" light look at Twenty20 Daylight. - There is a autoexpress review somewhere rated 1st - and lower cost
  8. One bump (right by my house) is where it is worse? I try to go over very slowly and so do not usually brake. Ill try braking when I go out shortly
  9. Hi, Ive got a 2018 Estate, when I go over a large speed bump (i.e long enough so both wheels on the speed bump) I get a creaking / groaning sound, particular as the back comes off the bump. Ive searched the forums, which mention front bushes, bit I am not sure if this is coming from the rear? If it is the bushings, was this resolved on later models? Could it be the springs compressing? Anyone else got this? How did you resolve? Is it a warranty claim, or does it just need a bit of lube somewhere?
  10. Thanks Lyminton for the info. So we now know that 2.0tdi SE from April 2018, was already using DQ381 (so looks like change was for MY18) Anyone know how I can find out the option codes for the car (I dont seem to have a sticker in the wheel well - and there is no service book on newer models)
  11. Thats why I am a little confused. My 2018 Superb (July 2018) is according the the VIN a MY18. It has the flat button infotainment unit, and Front Park sensors on a SE. It also has a DQ381 rather than a DQ250 When I bought the car I was surprised to find it has a 7 speed DQ381 as I expected DQ250 to still be used?
  12. Thanks. According to the VIN it is a MY18. Anyone know when the gearbox changes from the speed DQ250 to DQ381 7 Speed?
  13. I have a superb. July 18. I think it is a MY2018 but has the newer flat infotainment and front park so not sure.
  14. Anyone know location of the Online Connectivity Unit? 5NA 035 284 B
  15. Looks a neat setup. Cant find many reviews, but the czech reviews make it look a neat install. Tempted.
  16. Anyone know when MY2019 2.0TDI started production?
  17. When running up to a car Front Assist doesnt always alert.. Same with ACC - sometimes it doesnt "see" the car in front (despite being large, straight in front etc) and would just plough in if I didnt brake. ( and doesnt show on the maxidot) Anyone have this? Is there any calibration possible by a dealer?
  18. Ive had it come on (think it may be caused by a low battery due to cold weather). Went into Skoda, who updated software. Next morning it was back on and never gone off since. Still waiting for Skoda to find a solution,
  19. Have a superb with Halogen headlights. I dont think the bulbs in were original when I got the car (all GE), and have just changed the Dipped to Twenty20 Hybrid. They claim to be around 4200k and 50% brighter. Usually a lot of the Xenon "effect" bulbs loose a lot of light output, but these are great in terms of colour output and are brighter than the GE they replace. I havent changed the main beam, as they are also GE but were "whiter" already. The are sold as Twenty20 Hybrid, but are marked Gerlux Cobalt II Performanz. It seems to be a Autoexpress best buy a number of years ago. They also so a warmer Twenty20 Daylight bulb, that is a rebranded GE Megalight. Only concern now, is the DRL on the car are very yellow, but the design means you cant get the bulb out (except for wheels off, wheel liner out, cut open lamp, and try to find a suitable cover to plug the hole!). They might need leaving......
  20. I can sometimes get mine to trigger as I come up quickly behind another car, where it beeps and give a initial warning (I have sensitivity set to early warning), however it is not consistent. If it did it consistently it would be great, but Prob 8 out of 10 times it doesnt react. ACC seems to work ok (it uses the same sensor), but occasionally it doesnt slow when the car in front slows/stop and I have to brake manually. Car is large, straight ahead so should be easy to detect. Prob happened once every ten times? I wonder if there is an issue with the sensor?
  21. I have yet to sort Front assist out. It is set to "early warning" and generally seems to never activate a pre warning (ACC is working ok though). However, occasionally I have managed to get it to activate (it good time) when I run up fast to another car. Checking the manual, as far as I can work out between 5 km/h to 45km/h, the system triggers an automatic braking, but no pre warning. This is more difficult to test if it is working, but we will assume it does for the moment. Above 30km/h (18.75mph) it should give the pre warning if coming up to a moving or stationary object. I am not sure if you touch the brake / throttle it switches off. Has anyone worked this out? Logically though it should still work if you are braking to warn you are not braking hard enough. It all seems very hit and miss.
  22. Right. I seem to have works Manoeuvre braking out. it doesnt activate at slow speeds, and brake too late at fast speeds. This is good video to explain I s
  23. Hi, I have a 2018 superb with from park sensors, front assist and ACC. When I pull up to an object front park activates. Speaker icon is white, and what I think is "autobrake" is orange. Is orange on or off? If I switch it to white, next time to turns back to orange? Is this normal? I have Front assist send to "Early", but it hardly ever seems to activate. I think I have only seen the first warning on the maxidot come up once since Ive owned the car. If I push it any more I will be in the back of someone, so I am pretty sure it is not picking up? I assume if I put my foot on the brake as I come up to a car it will not activate at all, even if I would not stop in time. How are others systems behaving? Not having driven front assist before I dont know what is usual.
  24. Thanks. No sweat / rings etc. It is only on the passenger door handle (that isnt used much). I jumped in as a passenger yesterday, and nearly cut my fingers. It is very sharp. I have to speak to Skoda about another warranty issue - Ill mentioned it and see what they say.
  25. anyone had a interior door handle? Seems quite a common issue on VAG. Anyone managed to get it done as a warranty item? They may exclude it as cosmetic - but it is sharp and danger of cutting finger.
