  1. I took the recall seriously and had it done despite there being no obvious problems. As I was able to combine the visit with a trip to a nearby Retail Park, it wasn't an inconvenience. The update to our DSG model had no effect, but it may well have done. Therefore the point of my post is to inform people that if they don't experience any problems, then don't bother with the update.
  2. The update has been done and I noticed no change either in the way the car drove or the fuel consumption. I wonder whether the DSG compensated for possible problems by changing up or down as necessary? I never noticed any kangarooing or low speed torque issues.
  3. I was contacted by the dealer about a 24 EU software update. I asked about the reason and was informed that it was to remove a problem caused by too little torque at low speed, which is not related to the kangarooing experienced by some owners. Our Karoq with the DSG has never given any problems, but I'm having the update done tomorrow and will report back if I notice any difference.
  4. No problems with our 1.5TSi DSG. If you are unhappy with the response, either from the dealer or Skoda UK, the following method worked well for me with a major problem with TalkTalk. It hadn't been satisfactorily resolved, but when I used the following method, it was 'escalated' to a senior manager and fixed within two weeks. Write to them with the header 'without prejudice', provide a detailed report on the problems you are experiencing and then state that you will be seeking legal advice if a satisfactory solution is not offered. I took advice from Which? magazine on writing a letter of complaint and I mentioned Which? in my letter. However you need to be prepared to take legal action and follow it through.
  5. Interesting thread. I'm 'old school' and have always had a service done every 10000 miles or twelve months, whichever came first, albeit until the K arrived, I had diesel engines. I'll stick to my rule because, although current servicing relies on computer diagnostics rather than visual checks, I like the vehicle to be checked once a year. Plus any non-serious recalls are fixed. Also, at our current annual mileage, the car wouldn't be checked for nearly three years on variable servicing. Another related point is that I have all-seasons tyres on separate alloy rims, so every six months, I get to check the condition of the inner face of the tyres, which can be damaged by speed bumps, if they are 'straddled', plus I can remove flints from the treads. I also dip the oil after the service to check that it's clean and full. A friend of my wife had a service done and they forgot to replace the oil result: a new engine! I've also heard of people putting a mark on the oil filter (eg UV marker) to check it has been changed.
  6. Hello Greenliner1. The survey concentrated on the car and I was prepared to answer it using tick boxes to complete it quickly. I gave top marks throughout because I love Skodas and our Karoq is a brilliant car. Oddly, the annoying survey came from Ipsos MORI UK, whereas the second one came from Ipsos in Germany.
  7. Back on to the original topic. I mentioned in the three Skoda fora I belong to that £50 would be an appropriate 'fee' for completing the Ipsos MORI survey. This is the amount that Skoda UK then sent by e-mail. Coincidence - I think not! Now I've received a further request to complete a survey from 'Ipsos Loyalty GmbH', with a return envelope to Germany. It is less intrusive and the majority of the replies are by tick boxes. I will complete it, as I've been 'remunerated', but it's quite interesting that Skoda must (obviously) review comments on the various fora.
  8. Today I received the following reply from Skoda UK. I'd told the Customer Services Adviser that I was quite happy to answer the short surveys sent either by the dealer or Skoda UK and as we now own our fifth Skoda, we are very happy customers, but expressed my disappointment at the intrusive survey sent out by Ipsos MORI. This reply closes the matter as far as I am concerned and I will thank Skoda UK for their response. Dear ***** I would like to thank you for your comments regarding Ipos Mori questionnaire and for taking the time to write to us to tell us about this. Your feedback has been forwarded to our Product Marketing Team. I am delighted to offer you 50.00 GBP to spend within the ŠKODA Network. You are a valued ŠKODA customer and I hope this continues for many years to come. Please present a copy of this email to an Approved ŠKODA Retailer of your choice when you wish to redeem our goodwill gesture and the necessary arrangements will be made. Should you require any further assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me on any of the details below. Thank you for taking the time to contact ŠKODA UK. Kind regards

For what it's worth, I found our Karoq on CarWow at the correct spec (SEL) and colour, with the lowest CarWow price matched by our dealer. We didn't want any extras, except for dealer-fitted options. so it was collected by us a week after the order was placed. It had 33 miles on the clock, so presumably it was driven from the other dealer.
  10. Hi Roottootemoot. I signed several documents before and after ordering the Karoq, so I may have inadvertently given permission to hand on my contact details.
  11. I've sent an e-mail to Skoda Customer Services complaining about the MORI survey, but will they reply? I did mention that I'm a member of Which? and will contacy them if their reply is not satisfactory.
  12. I’ve been sent a questionnaire by Ipsos MORI asking me to answer a series of questions about our new Karoq plus a lot of other q’s about me, including what I consider intrusive ones about employment and income ‘for classification only’. If I’d been offered a voucher or cheque, I’d have considered it but I’m not wasting half an hour so that MORI can be paid for my efforts! Cheeky s***s. Skoda has gone down in my estimation for hiring these people.
  13. Thanks everyone especially Kenny.
  14. Our Yeti winter tyres are 215/60 R16 and the Karoq wheels are 215/50 R18, so the Yeti wheel circumference is 1.1% less than the Karoq. I remember Kenny R mentioning that he gave his tyres to his son for his Karoq, so will it be allright to fit my Yeti wheels in the autumn?
  15. One advantage of the electric handbrake plus DSG is that when the car stops, the brakes are applied and the clutches disengage, so no need to keep the footbrake pressed or go into neutral.
  16. Further news about the warranty issue. Yesterday I spoke to the sales manager and apparently his message to me was not quite as I stated. The only factory warranty available has to be applied before registration. Afterwards it is a Skoda UK warranty, which seems odd. He told me that the extended one-year warranty can be bought just before three years are up and it covers everything except wear and tear (eg the DSG clutch pack!). He also told me that Skoda UK claim that no Karoq with the DSG has had a gearbox failure. Is this true?

    MPG to KPH

I am new to the Karoq and to this forum, so my apologies if this one has been asked before. is it possible to change the digital display from MPH to KPH? Also, can the wipers be re-programmed to give a 'teardrop wipe' when the screen washer has been used to clear the last few drips? Thanks.
  18. Hi Kenny. Yes, that sounds like the Saltburn hairpins! A lovely town, developed in the mid-1800's, with good shops, a clean sandy beach, a pier and a cliff lift from the upper parking area to the pier. Plenty of windsurfers to be seen too and dogs are allowed during the holiday months to the left of the pier as you look out to sea.
  19. This has been an interesting introduction to Briskoda and I'm very impressed by the level of support I've been given. Thank you everyone. The Sales Manager called yesterday evening to say Skoda has agreed to apply the four year warranty, which will give me peace of mind during our ownership. Otherwise the Karoq is brilliant and the gearbox is smoother than the 6-speed on our Yeti. I was slightly concerned about the lower torque compared to the diesel, but having travelled up some of the steep parts of N Yorkshire, including Saltersgate Bank and the Saltburn hairpins, the gearbox does all the work, the K performs admirably and the car drives like a limo. As Karoq owners already know their cars, are detailed comments welcomed here? I'd like to report back in detail on the Karoq to the Y**i forum, in case anyone is considering exchanging their Yeti for a Karoq. So far, I'd certainly recommend it owing to the many additional features and increased inside space. I am also growing to like the the external appearance: although only marginally wider and longer than the Yeti, it looks so big!
  20. Hi Kenny many thanks but the link didn't provide the necessary information. Wino: I hope I'm not going to be overwhelmed by messages from busty Russian widows desperate to meet me, which happened on the Y**i forum, until I installed Ad Bloc!
  21. Oh dear! Skoda UK has confirmed that our Karoq is fitted with the dry clutch gearbox. I now have an issue to take up with the dealer over the extended warranty. It was on my list of options but the sales person hadn't included it on the order and said it could be bought prior to the fourth year. However, I've now found that this doesn't cover gearbox failure, which is a possibility. (Xman quoted ' Skoda UK finance version, only covers sudden failure and clutch packs are excluded). Skoda UK has told me that unless the extended warranty was applied pre-registration, it can't have the extended warranty from new. Had I known this, I would not have bought the car as we plan to keep it for four years. I now need to find out whether the sales person has misled us. I've spoken to the Sales Manager and will report later.
  22. I've just spoken to the dealer and their technician has told me that the 1.5 TSi 150PS is fitted with a wet clutch DSG!
  23. Many thanks for your helpful replies.
  24. I've just joined the forum, so I haven't found my way around yet. However, I've been referred here by Honest John, after I asked how to confirm whether our Karoq, bought just over a week ago, has a wet or dry clutch 7-speed gearbox, as he wasn't sure about the 1.5. Naturally I'd prefer the more robust former, but can anyone help? I'm still waiting for a reply from the dealer. I'll have a good look around the forum later on. Many thanks
