mk3 5e Battery
I've got a 2016 1.6 tdi. Car came with a moll battery from factory and was knackered about 3 months before the end of the 3 year warranty. Apparently there was a service bulletin about a duff batch and when I asked Skoda about it they replaced it under warranty with a Yuasa one I think. It's been fine ever since, although the first thing I do before driving is turn off the stop start as it's a pain in the ass coupled with the DSG when pulling out at roundabouts etc 😁

Security codes
I found this sticker in the radio book. Does anyone know if one of these is the code for the car key please? 😁

Fabia mk1 auto door lock issue
Got a bit of a strange fault occurring with the central locking. It works fine using the fob to lock and unlock all the doors with no issues. However when I set off and go above a few miles an hour the doors lock themselves automatically which I assume is how they are supposed to. But then the rear and front passenger locks immediately unlock themselves and stay unlocked while the drivers side front and rear remain locked until the ignition is turned off, at which point they pop up. Sometimes while driving, the car will retry to lock the passenger side but bounces straight back up. I can't understand why the locks work perfect with the fob but bounce back on auto. Tried searching the forum and can see lots of door lock issues but none that have the same symptoms. If anyone has any ideas would be very grateful cheers 😁

Fabia mk1 exhaust replacement
Got my wheel alignment done today and while it was on the lift I got under it and had a good look. Seems to be solid just surface rust, so returned the new exhaust to euros. The guy doing the alignment had a look as well and said it was ok so all good.

Fabia mk1 exhaust replacement
Thanks I will give it a proper check and decide if it's worth replacing at this stage. If not euros have a 365 day unused return policy so can always take it back if not needed. 😁

Fabia mk1 exhaust replacement
Thanks yeah sounds like the original is built to a good standard. Might just pop this one in shed and see how it goes. My concern was that it's 17 years old and only done 37k so will have spent quite a lot of its life stood. From past experience with other cars they have a tendency to rot from the inside out as moisture sits in the silencers etc.

Fabia mk1 exhaust replacement
Hi all, has anyone ever done an exhaust replacement on a mk1 (hatch not estate) looks like the one on it is from factory. I'm doing the back box and centre section which I have bought and is in 2 parts. I can't see a joint between the 2 on the one that's on the car and there is the rear suspension beam between underneath the front and mid silencer so looks like i might have to chop it in 2 to get it off. Does that sound right or am i missing something please? I've got paste and a u clamp. There is a double ended coupler on the bit that joins from the flexi / cat so hoping to 're use that. 😁 exhaust is not blowing yet but looks well crusty and parts were not expensive, got klarious parts was about £65 in total.

Skoda Fabia MK1 End of life??
Sounds like an old black cab! How many miles has the car done? Hope you get it sorted mate. I was planning to crack on with mine today but hasn't stopped lagging it down all day. Supposed to not rain tomoz so hopefully can get the new wings installed and bumper back on. My lounge looks like a salvage yard 😁

Skoda Fabia MK1 End of life??
Mine is a bit rattly after doing timing chain but it's coming from the gearbox which I think is the input Shaft bearing but don't think it's bad enough to worry about at this stage. Car has only done 37k. The car is not in daily use as yet and I am tempted to do the head gasket just because have a suspicion coolant may be leaking into combustion chambers and looks like the tools needed to test are as much as the parts to change it. From what i can gather my car does not have the temac gasket so will likely go at some point if it hasnt already. Its a 2003 and from what i can gather has spent a lot of its life stood. Looks like a fairly straight forward procedure, easier than the chain I have just done.

I was reading through Haynes manual about the procedure and it suggests that the inlet and exhaust manifolds can be left on by disconnecting the exhaust but makes it a bit heavy and awkward to manhandle out the engine bay. Thinking about it though I think it would be easier and not much more time to just take them off.

1.4 mpi 8v timing chain....help!
I was just reading that actually. Funnily enough was reading through the procedure in the Haynes manual last night in case it ever needs doing. It doesn't have the Temac gasket on it so will probably go at some stage. Doesn't look as difficult as the timing chain from reading the manual.

Defo! Don't suppose you know what fuel filter is for these cars please. Think yours will be same as mine if it has the AQW engine Europarts listing 3 different types. One that's on it looks like be factory 😁

1.4 mpi 8v timing chain....help!
Had another listen today but decided it's probably not as bad as I thought at this stage so will be taxing it December and running it for a while and monitor. Today with the help of hatboyharvey videos I took the front bumper and wings off. Didn't take long. The wings were rusted through at the bottom .... thought it was surface rust when I bought it 🤦♂️ but got 2 prasco pattern wings and dry fitted them. Seem like a pretty decent fit so took them back off and taking them to be painted next week. I was worried that the rust might have attacked the front of the sills but just ended being a bit of surface rust so no welding needed. A wire brush 2 coats of rust remedy and a coat of hammerite and they are fine. I got a gearbox oil top up and ordered a cheap 500ml syringe so will be checking that next week as well. Checked back take shoes and they appear to be about 60% worn so might just throw a new set on while its not in daily use as they are cheap enough. What i thought was gonna be a good service is turning into a full restoration 🤣🤣

1.4 mpi 8v timing chain....help!
Thanks my gearbox code is FNK according to the service book. Just wondering on approximate cost of replacing the bearing. Will have a ring round next week. I'm a bit gutted tbh thought it would have all been sorted with the timing chain. Bloody cars eh? 😑

1.4 mpi 8v timing chain....help!
Thanks I haven't checked the gearbox oil level yet is it easy to do? If it transpiresto be the input Shaft bearing im guessing I will have to get from Skoda as can't see it on europarts. Does yours rattle as well?

Transmission input Shaft bearing possibly actually I think.

Yes I think so but thought that with the rattle stopping when it's depressed my assumption is that's what it probably is or would you think otherwise please? 😁

1.4 mpi 8v timing chain....help!
Update...car is running now and rattle has gone away. Sounds like a sewing machine compared to how it was. Only downside is I can now hear another rattle coming from the gearbox which you can hear slightly in the video and stops when the clutch is depressed so guess release bearing is on it's way out. 😏 not sure if it's gonna be a fit job or if to take it to mr clutch but will do some investigation on difficulty vs cost etc. Before chain.. After chain.. So not putting tools away just yet but it's defo an improvement. Still a slight lumpyness it think it's a characteristic of the old Skoda engine design and tuning for emissions etc.
