  1. I have spoken to someone at Skoda via livechat about cambelt change. They confirmed that on 1st july 2023 their interval pplicy had changed to a lifetime one and cambelt should be changed after 15yrs or 140k-160k miles. I had my belt changed in 2019 aft 88k miles and currently sit at 157k so hence why i enquired. They ensured me that i dont need to change my belt til i had done 140k miles from when i changed my belt in 2019. 🤔

  2. I have a white black edition octavia estate and after car wash the guys freaked out and said something had happened to my wheels and that they had changed colour! They now appear to look like the colour has faded. The owner said uts never happened before and he spoke to the manufacturer of the cleaning stuff and they said my wheels couldnt have been lacquered 🤔.

The owner spent most of today polishing the wheels and managed to get one nearly back to what they looked like. Ive also noticed the roof rail bars look faded too! Ive uploaded a couple of pics. The faded one is the drivers side front and the blacker one is the nearside rear. Both offside wheels look more faded. Any help would be appreciated

Just a couple of things guys.

1: Has any one experienced the radio just turning its self totally of when your driving down the road at all?

2: Ive got a road hawk dash cam. Tried it the other day in the car when the radio was on and receving dab radio stations. Kept loosing the signal. Done the same route yesterday with out said camera on and got the dab stations all way the way to where I was working.

Any one got any idears and or thoughts on the above at all?

Mine used to switch off. Freeze and now bust so have had to get new control unit!

  4. Can i be dumb and ask what the heck this regen malarkey is all about?

From what i can tell noone really knows whats better. I put in morrisons fuel when im low and passing but will put in a little then get esso later. Know guys who work at the refinery at Grangemouth and say theres little difference as all tankers fill up from same pipes then its what the companies put in or dont that makes the difference and even then they are quite secretive about it. One mate has always used Bp ultimate fuel and has never had bother with his cars so dunno if that says anything.

Never understood this snowflake mentality about obscuring something that's on public view 24/7.

I guess it's that "I spend my life on socal media but keep parts of my world secret because it gives me a buzz" thing that millennials get high on?

(In my day back at school it was the equivalent of putting your arm around your quiz answers at school so that no-one else could read them.......I never understood that mentality when I was 9 FFS).

sounds like your the snowflake lol if he wants to hide the plate number let em!

I have this same issue.  Mum managed to rip and break the clip for the passenger visor (where it rotates) not the one that can be unclipped.  Spoke with dealer and they currently are being unhelpful, replacement for the sunvisor is £89.25 + VAT!!

@Woodst0ck  Did you manage to get your one sorted?

Same problem with mine as my 9yr old broke it. Went to the dealer and they said £150!!!!

My guess is rear anti roll bar bushes. A decent independent garage will change them for not that much.

had similar issue with my old skoda and it was do with these. no way would i get a main dealer to look at it. even my current octy when going over bumpy roads esp here in Edinburgh i hear slight knocking but mechanic said due to not having anti vibration clips like what Bobbyj has said.

You will need to replace like for like, if you have one of the hard to worn with MIB1’s a used radio sometimes just will not work. All of these MIB units are Component Protection locked, you will need to have that removed and then VCDS level coding to get the option boxes to match your car. A like for like MIB1 swap should be very possible and depending on the cost of CP removal and a replacement radio, be around the £2-250 marker. I cannot stress enough that the new radio needs to be the exact same part number as the old one, it can’t just be an Amundsen MIB1, there are 5 or 6 different part numbers from different manufacturers. For the easiest swap, it needs to be like for like. Some MIB1’s can be reworked to make the install work but by the time you have paid for that it will be more than swapping in a MIB2.

Ok have ordered the tools needed to take unit out to find part number

@chrisski please look at @Jaco2k post above. It's a good summary. Once you have figured out if the controller unit is bust, if you decide you want a direct replacement (that requires recoding) I have one sitting in the garage (mib1 Amundsen) and the screen if needed.

Take a look on YouTube for vids on how to remove the units and the tools required.

where are you based? Someone may be able to help.

im based in central scotland. i think ill get a direct replacement. how much would you sell yours for?

You have been told multiple times in this thread that the screen is just a screen, so... A quick summary for you:

    - the dealer has no clue what they are talking about: ignore them

    - there are two components for the entertainment system: the controller (looks like a 1din radio without screen, located in glove compartment) and the screen.

    - the screen does nothing else than display what the controller sends and send back some button inputs.

    - you need to pull out the controller (you need some special tools for this) to check the part number

You can buy the tools from eBay, Amazon or AliExpress - they are similar to a blade, with a triangular too and they will go on the square holes that are either side of the headunit (controller) to release it so that it can be pulled out.

    Good luck!

excellant thanks jaco2k will i have issues about coding if i get a replacement one?

No it’s on the radio itself. Some MIB1’s cannot be recoded, some Panasonic and Delphi units are impossible to re use afaik. Check the number and come back, I’ll see what I can find out about the one you have.

Where about on the radio as bewring in mind my system isnt working at all apart from the welcome to skoda sign appearing now and again

Sounds like yet another Skoda dealer with woefully poor product knowledge B)

Yup it was the young guy who interjected my conversation saying that the control panel was behind the screen and i replied that i had heard and read otherwise! The old guy i spoke to even suggested looking on this site for advise!

It is indeed in the glovebox, the screen is just a screen. Tbh with the cost of getting another radio plus the coding it might be a good time to install a MIB2 Amundsen for the extra features but if you don’t want to do that, I think they can code another MIB1 Amundsen to your car as the FeC’s and SWaP codes should all match up. Search for a radio with the same part number as yours, expect to pay no more than £120 for it. Personally I think it’s worth it to pay around £500 for a MIB2 Amundsen and 8 inch screen setup, I can’t help you with contacts for that upgrade :)

Thanks. The dealer was adamant that the main controller is behind the screen! Not fussed in upgrading to the MIB 2 tbh. I take it the part number is behind the screen so id have to take the screen off?
