  1. I think I'm right in saying if you buy a new car the dealer will be required to charge you 20% VAT. And it's my understanding that there's no VAT charged on a used car. That's not strictly true in that VAT on used cars is hidden from the buyer but is based on the difference between what the dealer pays for a car and what he sells it for. Makes sense therefore to buy used.
  2. I had my dash cam fitted by Halfords for £30. Works perfectly starts when engine starts and turns off when ignition turned off. All wires hidden.
  3. I had my dash cam hardwired to the ignition by my local Halfords as I'm not technically competent. All the wiring is hidden and the dash comes on when I switch on the ignition and goes off when I switch ignition off. Halfords supplied all the necessary fixings and their guy who'd done hundreds of installations did a first class job. I was happy to pay the £30 charge.
  4. I received this email last week from Skoda: We are pleased and excited to announce the merger of two of our current mobile application portfolio; the ŠKODA Connect App and MyŠKODA App will become one in our new application called MyŠKODA. The effect of the merger will make the use of our ŠKODA digital services even simpler for you, ensuring that you will have all of the important functionalities of the two previous apps accessible in one place. To enable login to the new application you can simply continue to use your current ŠKODA ID credentials, then read and confirm the updated legal terms to start using the all new App. If you would like more information regarding personal data processing then it is available here. If you have been using a third party login credential within the current MyŠKODA App (e.g. login via Facebook) and you do not have a ŠKODA ID (used for example in other ŠKODA Apps), you are able to create a new ŠKODA ID here or directly in the new MyŠKODA app. The new MyŠKODA application will be easily recognised by its all new logo and will be available on Google Play (after 04/12/2020) and Apple App Store (after 10/12/2020) as an update of the current ŠKODA Connect App. If you are yet to install the current ŠKODA Connect App you can easily do so now via this link. We believe that you will find using the new MyŠKODA application not only useful and enjoyable, but that it also helps to deliver the mobile interaction with your vehicle with more convenience and comfort.
  5. You may well be right! Skoda Superb with 4 wheels (exc steering wheel), 5 seats (with seatbelts), carpets, air freshener, road map and sat nav, heater/demister, speedometer and many other features too numerous to mention

  7. I needed to replace one of the 2 studs which holds the mat in place because it was broken; but could only do it by lifting the carpet as the stud is installed from underneath the carpet. I am not prepared to lift the carpet so will be using double sided sticky tape to fix mat securely to carpet - when I get round to it!
  8. Can't speak for the hatchback but I am very pleased with my estate which as you probably know has an enormous boot. I wondered whether the 1,5 TSI would be man enough to carry a full load and shouldn't have been concerned as it's got plenty of poke if needed (0 - 62mph in 8.8 seconds). What really impresses me is it's fuel economy, if driven quietly. Over the past 3,000 miles on a variety of roads I have achieved average mpg of 47.8. On longer distant motorway journeys I can achieve just under 57mpg. These are not brim to brim figures so actual mpg would be a little lower. Must say though I frequently use economy mode! As far as spec goes, I think the SE Technology is just right for me. Many of the car reviewers recommended the SE Technology as best value buy across the Superb range and I'd agree with them. Leather seats and as name suggests plenty of technology. I keep an eye on prices and am sure you'd pick up a car like mine for well under £20K. Don't think you'd be disappointed. Good luck.
  9. Eventually found these fixings which are called "Rug Knobs" in the Skoda parts catalogue. They cost 0.29 Euros each and a whacking 9.68 Euros delivery from Czechoslovakia! I also found what seems the same fixings on Ebay for £3.78 each including free delivery. However, these come from China and won't be delivered in less than 3 weeks!
  10. I'm looking to replace 2 of the integrated fixings in the front floor carpet in my 2019 Superb. These fixings are there to keep the car mats in place. They are attached to the carpet and have two small cylinder shaped plastic fixings projecting upwards allowing the mats to be placed over them. I searched Skoda parts and accessories but found nothing. I did find similar fixings on Ebay but they were not designed for my car and do not fit. Does anyone have any ideas where I might get hold of these?
  11. This is an extract from my handbook: WARNING ■ The general information relating to the use of assistance systems must be observed » page 216, in section Introduction. ■ The driver must always be ready to take over the operation of the accelerator and brake pedal. ■ The ACC does not react when approaching a stationary obstacle, such as traffic jams, vehicle breakdowns or vehicles waiting at a traffic light. ■ The ACC does not respond to crossing or oncoming objects. ■ If the ACC does not decelerate fast enough, immediately apply the vehicle's foot brake.

What reasons do you think there are for getting better fuel consumption driving manually? Or conversely worse for using CC.

I have done some test driving for mpg using Aircon and not using it. In longer journeys where I averaged about 49mpg using aircon I found that for the same journey I got 52mpg when it was turned off!

I have just returned from holiday in the Peak District and covered just under 600 miles. Overall I achieved an indicative 54.1 mpg which I was very pleased with. About 450 miles was motorway there and back. I used Eco mode throughout and ACC. I would expect Widescreen might do better than me as my car is probably a lot heavier. As I say, I used ACC. What impact to mpg do you think using cruise control has? Would you get better mpg using CC? Has anyone carried out any comparison tests?
  15. Thanks JR but don't have VCDS or OBDeleven so will stick to reducing the distance gap. Ps Wasn't that a great result for England yesterday in the Test series win against West Indies!
  16. Thanks all. Seems like I only have ACC and I'll have to get used to it. The main issue for me was that the car slowed down sooner than I liked as I approached the car in front ready to overtake it. As was mentioned above, I will have to reduce the "follow distance".
  17. Just returned from the first long journey in my Mark III Superb and used ACC. It's an ok feature but I think I prefer plain old cruise control! Thing is my car doesn't seem to have it? The handbook shows a stalk for ACC and a slightly different one for cruise control and my car only has the ACC stalk so I presume I don't have cruise control, or am I missing something?
