  1. Curiosity, that's all. And as stated. Its not inferior is it? They do the same job, they're just different methods of doing it How much did that cost you for the privilege? As opposed to you know, just unplugging it when its not needed. Or pressing a button on the box to change the setting?
  2. The advantage is that you can do all of the above on the driveway for free. Which obviously, won't be ok for remap companies. Believe it or not. I didn't have any interest in arguing tuning box vs. remap. I simply wondered how it was going, but it seems the OP isn't responding, so it's irrelevent.
  3. Oh right yeah, it DID need to turn into this because Andrew is being his usual **** self and has a stiffy for Darkside.
  4. When I said 'or' I meant both, rather than incinuating that they're the same thing. Apologies for mispeaking on that. Darkside could be accused of having confirmation bias and/or choice supportive bias as they are choosing their product over the tuning box. Its semantics at this point and my point does still stand. Provide more unbiased evidence and you can back up your point better. We can continue to go round in circles if you want. I'm not a champion of tuning boxes. I have neither on my car, nor am I sure as to whether I want one. I was just merely curious to see how OPs has gone. Not sure why this needed to turn into anything at all.
  5. As Chimaera posted above. Choice supported bias, or confirmation bias. The remapping company know what they want to find, so they end up finding it with little hard evidence or circumstantial evidence. Literally every single article I have seen on tuning boxes vs. remap thats by media or prospective buyers (with access to both) has proved that they do the exact same job, but the tuning box has the advantage of variable programming and easier removal. This link is equivalent to what you've posted: https://www.racechip.co.uk/chip-tuning/remapping.html?gclid=CjwKCAiA2O39BRBjEiwApB2IkmGsGyW874Gh0J92NIf32OUrVEe0EJRqfNrlj9_7sjAH6MrUnkiE2hoCbq4QAvD_BwE Of course the tuning box manufacturer is going to say theirs is best. Much like your remapping company is going to say a remap is better.
  6. Only if they don't exercise their statuatory consumer rights.
  7. The video was put together by a remapping company. Of course there is bias. Read and watch videos by customers and media outlets who have nothing to gain from supporting one or the other. Tuning boxes aren't really any different to a remap since remaps aren't dynamic. I was curious as to how its gone, that was my reason for bumping this thread. If you've nothing constructive to say Andrew. Kindly **** off.
  8. Nah mate. I like to watch impartial videos rather than biased. I also asked out of curiosity more than anything
  9. Any update on how your motor is running with a tuning box on it?
  10. My ECU is from 2016, so it'd be interesting to see what it would throw up actually
  11. Is everyone on their periods at the moment?
  12. That'd be great if you have a way of finding out?
  13. There are no markings at all anywhere on the block or in the usual places. The tirewell in the boot has the original engine sticker in. No additional stickers. It was done under warranty, partial payment from Skoda and was done by a Skoda franchise. I have the invoices but there are no references to the engine codes whatsoever. The skoda franchise don't even know when I called. It was too long ago. I'm really at a loss for a way to check
  14. Hi guys, Still trying to figure out what engine I have in my vrs. Its a replacement, nothing said in the paperwork, no markings on the block and no changes on any of the stickers on the chassis. Is there a difference in bhp between the CAVE and CTHE or some other way I can figure out which I have? Thanks in advance
  15. Should have only been like 3 replies to this thread... unsure why the discussion on grease was needed haha
  16. Telling it like it is as always.
  17. Any update on this? Not melted your engine yet?
  18. I had a really hard time too. Perseverence won the day for me. On the battery side there is a bit of wiggle room on the tray, so try and get it moved over as much as you can. On the other side, try covering sharp areas with rags and stuff. Gardening gloves really help get a grip on the fitment. I also use a small flat head screwdriver to persuade it out. Try and get a good viewing angle of what it is you're actually trying to do and you'll manage. It should be a 5 minute job, but if you have man-sized hands, it apparently takes longer. Side note. I spent £33 on bulbs and the difference is VERY slight. So weigh up whether its worth it too
  19. Takes 5 minutes to check your oil. Anyone who lets it get that low and can't even be bothered to check it before taking it for an MOT shouldn't even be allowed to own a car in my opinion. I would avoid that car on that principle alone. I wanted a combi, but never found one. Good luck!
  20. Would not recommend K&N, numerous MAF sensors ****ed over the years because they over oil the filters and the engine just sucks the oil in and onto the MAF
  21. its *******s really isn't it? As long as they are dipped, facing the right way and the right colour, it shouldn't matter
  22. So, which bulbs am I looking for then if I want something closer to white?
