For a Karoq 2.0 4x4 TDi, what is the correct oil spec? I generally check the oil every 500 - 600 miles and was going to have a bottle in the boot just in case. I know it’s VW 504/504 from the sticker but which viscosity? One of the online genuine parts sites has 2 different viscosity, 0W 20 and 0W 30, which do I need for a UK car, if that makes a difference? Also do these blocks absorb oil when new? Many thanks
  2. @KENNY R: No, don’t have one. From what I could see it didn’t give me anything my phone didn’t via the USB, just wanted to see if I was missing something. Still getting to grips with what’s on the car. 👍
  3. Slight diversion but does the DataPlug widget give me anything that the various Skoda apps on my iPhone via CarPlay doesn’t? I’ve got a big basic 2020 Karoq SE so no fancy systems, pre-registered so no extra Connect services added. The app (Connected Lite) doesn’t want to go past this stage:

And £2,495 + VAT each, plus fitting which ain’t going to be cheat at a LR dealer.

It’s starts on page 29 of this very long and very rambling this thread. https://www.disco4.com/forum/life-velar-158132.html?highlight=Velar&start=420 However I’m not sure if anyone not signed in can see it. Page 39 is the declaration of much relief that LR was picking up the tab. 👍 Hope J77 doesn’t mind me publishing the pics.😎

On a different forum, LR based, one of the regulars had a similar problem with cracked headlights on a RR Velar. After much denying of any problem, the usual “Someone must have reversed into you, sir”, they eventually admitted there was an issue with the way the bumper was fitted. It put too much stress on the lights and they cracked. From memory, they were £3k each!!
  7. The filler cap on mine refused to budge on first use, took about 3 nudges to get it working on first fuelling. It had prob never been moved since the car was built in July ‘19, first refuelling end June ‘20 after collection. Since then filled up twice and it popped open on first press.👍 Will keep giving it a good thumping in mind for future though. 😀
  8. 55l according to the manual in my car.👍
  9. Will try the steering wheel. 👍 Re jacking up the car, looks like it should be no problem with a standard jack. Much good info in the manuals section. 👍
  10. Skippy’s an auto so doesn’t do anything until the gas is applied, which meant I was moving forward when the starter was still turning. I’d rather just switch it off for all the fuel it will save. The only other car I’ve driven had it so that the starter cranked when the foot came off the brakes so engine was fully running by the time it got my size 11 on to the go pedal. Remember having a traffic lights quick draw with a couple of vans where all three of us stopped, all three of our engine died and all 3 of our engines fired up on green. My first experience of stop start. Coming from LRs, I still thing “that car’s broken down” when I hear an engine stop at a junction or traffic lights. 😆
  11. You might well have seen them on eBay. Will have a look at a puck but not sure how I’d secure it in such a way that the bolt isn’t in the middle. Why is nothing straight forward?
  12. PS Pic of the Alloy. Just unloaded them and very happy.👍 Plus the seller had boxed them up which was brill as I had a pretty full boot, they just sat on the folded rear seats. If he’s on here many thanks and good to meet you yesterday.
  13. Agreed odd choice, but gives a bit more flexibility if we find ourselves away from home don’t have to worry too much about getting them changed. Looking at doing a few long haul road trips over the next couple of years, when we can, so will find ourselves in very hot places and nervous about anything winter based with temps up in the high 30s or low 40s, but CC+ would be fine as a temp spare under those conditions. We’ll see how we get on, we’ll be wearing out tyres anyway so can change in the future. Once the factory fitted tyres are gone I’m thinking about Michelin Latitude Cross tyres, but that’ll be a couple of years down the line. Re fitting to the original rims, collecting wheels is a bit of a hang up from owning LRs. Like torches, you can never have enough wheels.
  14. Better pic of jack, hopefully.
  15. Bought second hand. Couldn’t justify over £200 a rim new, paid far more than I would have for Q3 rims but decided it was worth it. My wallet is £350 lighter but happy with the purchase, the condition is pretty good with a few minor marks but as they will be the winter set then that’s fine. Will prob fit Cross Climate+ tyres to them. The trolley jack is similar to this with a rubber disk. Will see how it looks when I try it.👍 Next wheel related challenge is to see how I can carry a full sized wheel & tyre as a spare in the boot safely for long trips. It’s a 4x4 version so no room under the floor. Unfortunately no tie down eyes so my initial plans to just ratchet strap it to the floor are scuppered. 😭
  16. Many thanks, I missed that in the manual. I have been used to wheel nuts, wheel bolts takes me back a decade or 4, will have a play. 👍
  17. OK, rim search is over. Picked up a set of Ratikon alloys today ready for fitting winter tyres. Happy same wheel type as then no hassle with having to declare “modification” to Ins Co. Still looking for one more to act as a spare, you can never have enough wheels. 😀 Another couple of questions. When using a trolley jack do I use the same point as the “normal” emergency use jack? Never jacked a car up using the wishbone, no wish to start now. Plus what’s the torque figure for the wheel nuts? Did almost 600 miles today in Skippy (new name applied) and very happy even though most of that was in very rubbish weather. Only down side was pretty noisy wipers that seemed to smear across the screen, which improved over the trip. Was wondering if some cleaning gunk had been applied to the windscreen. CarPlay worked brilliantly, drive was steady as a rock and, bonus time, she did 53mpg (actual), my old ride would struggle to hit 30mpg in these conditions. Also getting used to switching off StopStart, a coupe, of time she died at traffic lights and just stabbed the A button and she fired up. Very happy with choice of car. 👍
  18. Greetings all, a new owner with a few questions. First Karoq, indeed first Skoda ever, after over 30 years of LR ownership, with a couple of BMWs. Picked up a pre-registered SE 2.0 Tdi 4x4 DSG on Tuesday and loving it, if only after the 150 mile drive back home. Gratuitious pic from collecting it (not sure if it’s a he or a she yet) Got a load of questions, finding the manual isn’t especially good at getting to the nitty gritty of the car so thought best ask here. Firstly a question on bulbs. From what I can figure out, the dipped beam headlamp bulb is H7 type, is the high beam bulb the same? Im going to get a set of Philips Xtreme bulbs for the low beam position, was wondering if I need to be getting 2 pairs. Secondly, I’m looking to get a second set of rims to put proper winter tyres on. I spend a lot of time in the Highlands in winter and have learned of the value of proper winter tyres in extreme conditions. I have a fair choice of rims to go from from Audi, VW & SEAT, Skoda rims that suit the Karoq seem to be a bit like hens’ teeth. Most are offset are ET43 but my rims (Ratikon 17”ers) are ET45, my understanding of how it works is that puts the hub 2mm further out and shouldn’t be a problem. Sound right and ET43s are OK? Obviously have to make sure all the other numbers are correct, 5x112 7j 17 and 57.1mm etc. Lastly, for now, the SE doesn’t have the button for driving modes (ECO, Normal, winter, off-road, etc), I cant find that in the menus but might have been looking in the wrong place. Does the SE 4x4 without the button have these options or does the car just figure it out? I’m not aiming to do the kind of insane off-roading I used to do in my Disco 3 but useful to know how the car works. TIA. Derek
