Vibration and Drone to Motorway Speeds - Audi A5 STronic DSG
Last update, I hope. Got my car back last week, turns out it was the front wheel bearings that were shot in it. Should probably been with them 2-3 days if they had listened to me when I booked it in. Regardless, I now have a new flywheel, 4 new prem tyres and 2 new bearings and a working car lol. When I got the car back, there was a clicking/cracking noise when turning lock to lock while stationary, (heard it when attempting to reverse park). Initial thought was the CV joint, but a friend had a listen and he thought it was the sub frame bolts weren't tight enough. Took it back to the garage today and the mechanic said the same thing. He put it on the ramp and noticed that there was a heat shield, around the wheel arch I believe, which was bent out of shape, causing a bolt on the steering bracket to catch on it. Straightened that out and rechecked all sub frame bolts and all good. Steering also feels a bit lighter than it did when I got it back.

Toot, I have no idea. The gearbox specialist told them it was the flywheel, and the dealers mechanic fitted it. Test drove it, told me it was fine. I drove it for 5 minutes and it was just as before. Took them back out in it, and they agreed that it was still an issue. That's when they tried the wheel bearings, with no success. I'm at the stage now where they are just putting loads of faults into a random generator and picking out whatever comes up first lol. My concern is that I reject the car, and they put it straight back on forecourt for someone else to buy. It's apparently Audi specialists that have it now, and that has been backed up by Audi actually emailing me with satisfaction surveys.

Yip, had to fight the dealer for 4 weeks to get a courtesy car from them. Back with an Octavia for the time being. I've questioned a replacement, but again, it's down to them finding one for the same or similar value. Can't see anything within a grand difference on website.

I'd forgotten to update it. Bearings were done, and problem still there. It's now away to Audi for them to have a look at it. Started looking at other cars now, as I'm not confident that they will ever fix it. Only issue is that used car prices have risen again, which will put me out of pocket after the settlement is paid off and whatever is left over, plus whatever compo I can squeeze out of them.

Cheers folks, It is just an FWD. The dealer called me yesterday, a new mech has looked at it. Thinks it's the wheel bearings. If only they listened to me when I booked it in and I'd mentioned it's possibly an issue with the engine, but hopefully just wheel bearings.

Vibration and Drone to Motorway Speeds - Audi A5 STronic DSG
Afternoon all. I traded in my 2ltr T|DI Octavia, and bought a 2015 A5 2ltr TDI Stronic in April this year, and it's been back in the garage for 8 weeks so far since. The biggest issue is from 50mph upwards, there is a vibration through the pedal and cabin floor, similar to a mobile phone going off. Identical intermittent vibration. In addition to the vibration, there is an identical droning heard throughout the cabin. Garage had it, and identified it to being an issue with the gearbox. Gearbox was pulled out and sent to a specialist who advised that it was the flywheel. This has been changed, and the garage assured me that it was fixed with no further vibrations or drone. All great, picked up the car, onto the motorway, got up to speed and the issue was as prevalent as before. Took the car back to the garage and questioned this, the mechanic confirmed that he test drove and there was no issues. Invited him and the service manager on another drive and lo and behold, the issue was still there. Car is back in with them, and they have one more opportunity to fix it before I pursue for full refund plus comp. Has anyone come across the vibration and sound issue, and has any idea as to what it might be. I had originally though wheel bearings but the garage confirmed when they had it elevated and running at speed, they could still hear it. With it being fwd, the rears wouldn't have been turning and therefore ending my theory lol. I know it's not a Skoda however it's still effectively a VW DSG gearbox so hoping anyone else has experienced this and knows of a fix. Cheers

Is anyone using DAB-Z. I've noticed mine is playing up recently, it's not loading up the station list, and while it still plays my last listened to station, I just get the spinny circle on the main page so can't navigate to any other station. My only option is to kill the app and reload. Have to tried uninstall/reinstall, clearing cache and data and it works on first load, then when I go back to the car again and start, it's back to square 1.

Afternoon folks, another small issue I'm facing. I've never been able to set my doors right on Canbus, however recently when I've gone in to try and play about with the settings, after pressing to get into the canbus options, it tells me the app isn't installed' and doesn't let me continue. Anyone had this. Tried to video it but file too big, even for a 2 second vid.

So went to the car this morning, and switched on the ignition. For about 10 minutes there were no satellites. Face panel off again and moved about the wires and satellites went to 4. I have a spare GPS unit as I'd bought a second stereo from Ebilaien, disconnected the old GPS unit, and and the head unit still showed that there was a connected satellites lol. Do they have built in GPS too? Anyways, plugged in the spare box and it then showed that there was 15 satellites, so I know part of the issue is the older GPS unit that I had. Might have a look around to see if I can find any more powerful ones that will go into the unit.

6 vs 7 speed DSG
Lifting this aged post with a quick question. Would a 7 speed dsg be more fuel efficient than a 6 speed dsg?

Stage one remap for a 2 ltr diesel
Aye, I agree that it shouldn't be the DPF, especially after the run to newcastle and back should have been enough at an almost constant 2500rpm. It was more the vast drop in MPG that scunnered me, and I could understand if I was trying to get down there in record time haha, but I was behaving myself.

Don't generally do trips like that tbh, Only on the odd occasion. Sometimes some local driving, or within 10 15 miles of home

Stage one remap for a 2 ltr diesel
Evening guys, I have a 15 plate Octavia 2l 150Bhp 75000 miles, with a recent stage 1 being done. I've noticed that short drives are much more generous with the consumptions, however motorway driving is horrific. When I bought the car, I took it down to Wales from Ayrshire, and on the drive down, I was getting 65mpg on economy. Last weekend there, went down to Newcastle, again on economy, and being sensible it just scraped by 52mpg. I noticed that it was sitting about 2500rpm right down the motorway and my idle speed is currently sitting at around 900rpm which I think is slightly high. Spoke with the tuner and he suggested doing an dpf regen as it might be sooted up, or might be at the end of it's life. Anyone experience similar?
